#BoycottTims: The campaign is just getting started

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

I love Tim Hortons. But yesterday I found out they didn't like me back.

It all started when Tim Hortons bowed to pressure from foreign anti-pipeline lobbyists to pull a soft-focus Enbridge commercial from its in-store advertising. Tim Hortons agreed.

The people who pressured Tim Hortons don't even live in Canada, and their supporters here aren't the type of people who tend to be regular Tim Hortons customers.

The good new is that when they found out about Tim Hortons attitude towards the energy industry, ordinary Canadians took to social media to protest.

TheRebel.media set up a petition site at BoycottTims.com, and created a radio ad, too. Rogers Radio refused to take it.

That's OK.

Average people  -- not professional activists - held a protest outside a Calgary Tim Hortons this afternoon. We'll have video up about that shortly.

This is just the beginning.

JOIN TheRebel.media for more fearless news and commentary you won’t find anywhere else.

Tim Hortons has declared war on Canada’s energy industry.

Ferdinand I. Tim Horton’s was originally a very Canadian company, the Brazilian company that now owns it has seen fit to dis what most Canadians stand up for and are proud of, our natural resources. Yes its true, most Canadians are not ashamed of the oil patch, natural gas, mining, and forestry we have in such abundance. Tim Horton’s decision to bow down to the demands of small interest groups which exist through foreign influence, hurts the whole country. So who else should the protest be directed to? I don’t understand your post.

Jimmy lots of people don’t think it is a pointless protest. You have encouraged us to knock ourselves out, several times, and we shall, thank you.

I dont really dont understand why Boycott Tim Hortons. Is it about the Oil & Gas I presume, so why not not Boycott in buying gasoline or doing an Oil change. Let us just all ride a Donkey it runs on grass which is an Enviro friendly. The way I look at it boycott the Big Company, just like enbridge or the oil companies. Please dont do harm on the Ordinary Joe who wants to make a living or provably you are just trying to Promote STARBUCK of U.S. Common you just said, you love Coffee, admit it.

Of course I vote and I stand up for things that actually mean something, but what does that have to do with this absolutely pointless boycott?

Hey, knock yourself out in trying win something that will mean absolutely nothing. Good luck with that.

I stopped going to time a long time ago

And good for them Jimmy. I hope they choke on their coffee and donut. I have to ask , do you even vote? You clearly don’t give a fuck, but many do. A dent can be made, don’t underestimate people who pay attention.

This is at the bottom of the list of things that are worthy of complaining or boycotting about – that is the point. It’s fake outrage over nothing. Tim Horton’s has every right to do what they did and of course, you have every right to never buy coffee from them again, but just be aware that nobody gives a fuck about this beyond any sort of negligible degree. Tim Hortons are not going to hurting here.

Come Monday morning – millions of Canadians will be piling into Tim Hortons to get their daily drug – before, during and after work.

Ya, Glenn, I agree it really isn’t about the ad at all…
So, this ‘Sum of Us’ group is against an ad by Enbridge…but they are OK with Tim’s in Qatar, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Don’t promote Canadian natural resources, but it’s OK to be involved in Middle East oil.
How hypocritical. So there is obviously something else going on…
I think somebody doesn’t want Canada to be successful, cuz somebody wants to have Canada and all her riches. It’s about power and control. Bring on the slow demise of a country, and then you can have her. Bullying Tim’s may not seem like a big deal to some, but small things chip away at a big rock til it isn’t a big rock any more.
commented 2015-06-07 18:04:06 -0400
Jimmy da Silva…If Tims had of quietly discontinued the ads it would not have even come up on anyones radar…it was the announcement that they were doing so that was ill advised. I have led campaigns against advertisement . Generally it is easier to get a corporate shunning of ad agencies based on their track record than it is to get an ad taken down after it has been produced…far too much money and effort went into it…after the ad has been produced the horse is out of the barn anyway.

Jimmy…this is not really about the ad….it is about picking sides.
commented 2015-06-07 15:53:48 -0400

I am sorry to wake you from your slumber, but not even 2% of Canadians are complaining about this. The boycott is negligible and it’s no surprise that Ezra is the one leading this idiocy. But hey, good luck in getting the ad placed back in a looped video that no one gives a fuck about.
commented 2015-06-07 15:13:48 -0400
So enjoy your coffee and donut Jimmy, no problem.
A Timmy’s spokesperson said that they listened and acted on what their customers told them regarding the offence taken as a result of the add being used on Timmy TV. Those who are proud of the rich resource country they live in, want to point out that they are being disregarded, and Tim Horton’s is taking cues from a small special interest group and not in fact listening to most Canadians at all.
commented 2015-06-07 14:37:49 -0400

And if Tim Hortons agrees to your demands and starts showing the Enbridge ads again, what have you won exactly – 99.9999% of Canadians still won’t give a shit about what they show on Tims TV. They just want their coffee.

Wow – what a victory this will be for you.
commented 2015-06-07 02:22:09 -0400
The very definition of making a stand Jimmy.
commented 2015-06-07 02:06:43 -0400

Tim Hortons isn’t taking any stand here – they had been showing the Enbridge ads for quite some time now and happily took the money to do so – but they didn’t want to lose customers, so they gave in to pressure like MANY companies do. You are delusional if you think this is some sort of political statement on behalf of Tim Hortons.

You didn’t even care about this until Ezra brought it up with his hyperbolic spin – because I am quite sure you weren’t going to Tim Hortons and wondering: “Where did those Enbridge ads go?” Nobody gives a shit about some looped advertisement video in a retail store or restaurant. What’s next – TTC bus ads that people stare at blankly as they ride bus to kill time?

THIS is the very definition of hyperbole and fake outrage.
commented 2015-06-07 00:46:54 -0400
Well Jimmy, we will have to agree to disagree. It is now Brazilian owned, a foreign interest who has taken an anti -Canadian stand. Can’t be ignored.
commented 2015-06-07 00:34:39 -0400

It’s absolutely moronic. Tim Horton’s slings coffee and what they show on Tims TV means less than nothing. I think people need to choose their battles better.
commented 2015-06-07 00:05:23 -0400
Principle. Many offended Canadians who stand behind the resource development of this country as an integral part of its survival don’t think any attack on our right to responsible resource extraction is acceptable, especially with foreign interests involved. This is war.
commented 2015-06-06 23:47:53 -0400
Seriously – who gives a shit? On top of that, who the hell is actually watching Tims TV with any great interest as you are waiting for your coffee? There are probably better things to do with your time over boycotting a company that has Canadian employees – who hopefully won’t lose their job if they don’t meet the idiotic demands of those boycotting.
commented 2015-06-06 22:05:40 -0400
Tim Hortons started off Canadian. It has lost its way and its roots are forgotten and ignored by the current Brazilian ownership. It is downright disrespectful, and I will boycott. Signed the petition when this first came out with no problems. Sounds like its been hacked.

Hey folks……get a Mac. It took me 5 seconds to sign the petition. No problems! Say Maurice, I’m an old guy but only half bald, good eyesight and not over weight so I can’t sign for you. Sorry. By the way, what does a MacCoffee taste like?

Tim Hortons is actively trying to increase its U.S. market, which is currently centred in and around New York and the northeastern U.S. So of course it would bow to the demands of the people in this area, and an anti-“tar sands” (anti-Canadian fossil fuel energy) public policy certainly doesn’t hurt the middle-east expansion of Tim Hortons into member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council, chief among them being Saudi Arabia.
commented 2015-06-06 00:11:14 -0400
Maurice, you described me to a T. But it will only let me revoke my petition. Can’t help sorry

And for the record. In my experience, as a client, Enbridge standards exceed standard codes
commented 2015-06-05 21:50:57 -0400
My neighbour is an IT manager at Enbridge. I am a subcontractor and Enbridge is a gracious customer. Timmy employs TFWs. Admirable but unnecessary. I’m going with Enbridge
commented 2015-06-05 21:19:29 -0400
Tim Horton was a Freemason. Enbridge employs 3000 workers
