"Carbon dioxide isn't real pollution": Volkswagen's real crime was selling a fake solution to an imaginary problem

Rebel Staff

By now you've probably heard all about the huge Volkswagen scandal:

It turns out that the German automaker's high priced "eco-friendly" diesel "vanity cars" -- the ones they marketed to environmentally conscious customers who wanted something fancier than a Prius -- weren't really low-emission at all.

Progressives like to lecture us to be "more like Europe" -- and Germany especially -- when it comes to being "green." Stephane Dion touted cars like these during the 2008 federal election, saying everyone should drive one to help save the earth.

So much for that; now it turns out at least one of their famous "green" innovations was a hoax.

And more importantly, carbon dioxide isn't pollution anyway. We emit it into the atmosphere every time we exhale!

Volkswagen played along with this insane "greed" fad, though, happy to take money from gullible do-gooders and show-offs.

Why aren’t they reporting on the rampant deleting of emissions controls on large class 8 trucks?
commented 2015-10-02 15:09:00 -0400
I’m just pleased that most of these green wackos probably held stock in their beloved eco-friendly company and are about to lose their shirt over their misguided support fro politicians who support this BS. The next lie to be brought out is the fuel savings of buying identical vehicles with gas or hybrid engines. Hint: gas wins every time.

I think maybe this whole VW BS is a cover up or distraction for what’s really going on:
http://www.wnd.com/2015/09/obama-puts-u-s-on-fast-track-to-world-government/
“The United Nations 2030 Agenda endorsed by President Obama, Pope Francis and the U.N. General Assembly brings the world one giant step closer to true global governance.
The U.N. document approved Sunday in New York, “Transforming Our World: The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” includes in its preamble the call for a “new universal agenda” for all of humanity.
But one big question looms.
How does such an ambitious plan get implemented?
The plan bypasses Congress and the legislatures of the world’s other 193 nations. Yet, the heads of state agreed to work toward implementation, largely through secret trade deals and backroom bureaucratic rule-making, experts told WND…”

Where does Canada stand in all this…

Many people are outraged about VW’s scam, but I’m not. I couldn’t care less. We know the whole green movement is contrived horse-shit and that time is destroying the global warmists, so just relax and let the affected deal with their obsessions and laugh at them once in awhile. It’s like watching people pass out in a pool of their own vomit. They are totally stupid and usually in pain.

CO2. Isn’t that a byproduct of brewing spirits and beer? Something that makes the bubbles in soft drinks? Why no demands to shut down breweries, distillers, or Coke, Pepsi or whatever?

CO2 is plant food,
commented 2015-10-02 02:12:39 -0400
Only countries in their lunatic left senility like Canada would worry about CO2 emissions from cars or anything else.

Worried about CO2?

Plant more trees.

Give me grease and oil and gas fumes and the open road and fuck the whining green freaks.
They care more about the drop in value for their junk heaps now that the carbon myth is out of the bag

Whenever I come across one of these wacko carbon believers, the first question I ask is “when do we start the cull”
They look at me weirdly, and then I explain that humans are the worst contributors to carbon dioxide, so "let’s start culling humans to save the world.
This ends their BS claims, and then the usual name calling and deflections start.
They go absolutely wild, when I suggest that we start with 1.6 billion believers in a moon god called allah.
Just saying

Thanks to the other commenters, as I’ve learned a thing or two, and that always feels good.
I’ll add, that probably the worst offenders, is the amount of lying surrounding the mileage (and by extension the pollution) of the hybrid vehicles – it’s HUGE!! Can we expect that shoe to drop next, or will the powers that be keep it under wraps, simply because they believe in the cause??
commented 2015-10-01 18:30:19 -0400
I am surprised that you took that track with VW, I do not know anyone who buys a VW for an attempt to be green(I only buy the VW diesel because it is diesel not for environmental reasons). they get fantastic mileage and I buy it for the economy and my wallet not the bullsh!t fraud of golabal warming.

those emissions standards that were bypassed are stupid to begin with and in europe they don’t put that sh!t on the vehicles.
In this case you are off base with your argument. I have owned diesels for decades and never met a person buying a VW for GREEN reasons.
VW should not have had to try to rig the tests but how do you fight the freaks who mandate the increasingly impossible targets.
commented 2015-10-01 16:06:26 -0400
Personally I hope somebody comes up with a retrofit engine and drive train for my JEEP Wrangler JK (the best vehicule I have ever owned and I include a D series Volvo in that list) that will use steam/flywheel/and piston “steampunk” technology feuled by the simple combustion of raw unprocessed Alberta oil sand……….:-)
commented 2015-10-01 15:34:36 -0400
Actually the problem their software solves increased CO2 and reduced mileage in order to bring NOx levels within acceptable levels from what I was able to find. The VW TDI according to people I know with it, does provide good power and mileage. Yes the TDI has a lower CO2 footprint but what it does produce can cause increased breathing problems and acid rain. Go learn about it :

commented 2015-10-01 15:19:27 -0400
Why should we be surprised?
The VW computer models probably have apps borrowed from the same cabal of spurious climate scientists faking the global warming data. They got away with falsifying data for decades and it wouldn’t surprise me if some of those same fake scientists had a hand in this rigged computer model scam.
commented 2015-10-01 15:05:44 -0400
This wasn’t the first time software was used to tell an environmental lie. Remember the hockey stick?

Computer programs can be written to tell anything you want. People who play online poker for money are idiots. You never know when the author of the software might be sitting at the table with you and he can not only see his own hand he can see yours too.

Anyone who has lived in London UK will know almost everything runs on diesel and has for years.
Gas engines produce carbon monoxide are far deadlier emission. One VW mechanic used to stick his nose close to the new TDI for 20 seconds to prove how harmless the emissions were
commented 2015-10-01 14:50:11 -0400
The worst emissions, that we need to be worried about, all come from the mouths of Trudeau and Mulcair.

My 2006 gets 60miles per Imperial gallon on the highway. No not an ordinary car. I will continue buying VW TDI .
Not purchased becausebof emissions but cost of driving. This is my second TDI. I didn’t buy the new clean TDI because I thought the car was bland looking.
I save over 3000 dollars a year in fuel costs. Starts everytime I turn it only. Idles for hours on a cup of fuel. Leather visit like new
I liked my 2003 TDI but needed more space. I also owned 2 Mercedes 5 ton trucks and a diesel car. I prefer VW. Blew the MB diesel car up at 50.000 miles and one truck at 20,000.

One point of clarification, the emission that is in question is NOX (NO & NO2) which is a serious problem with diesel engines. In Canada we have had NOX regulations for decades. It was one of the things that we had to consider when setting up the combustion controls on boilers. We measured CO, O2, NO, NO2, SO2 and particulate matter, but not CO2 or H2O. CO was un-burned fuel that could cause explosions in the flue or smokestack, Excess O2 meant too much heat going up the smokestack. The NO, NO2, SO2 and particulate matter were actual harmful emissions. The problem is that today the infatuation with CO2 has completely distracted from the truly bad emmissions like NO, NO2, SO2 and particulate matter It is time we get back to what really matters and quite obsessinf on a FAT-FREE science.

Carbon crap climate change is a front for heavily indebted socialist gubbamints to tax (based on green scams) and pay down some of the debt.

And all this fucking bullshit in between is for the simpletons and lemmings out there that believe that big fat gubbermint will make the planet a better place.
commented 2015-10-01 14:25:14 -0400
Ezra, it’s actually worse than this. While diesel fuel emits less carbon than petrol (gas) it produces far greater amounts of REAL pollutants in the form of nitrogen oxide. So, they basically decided to definitely kill more people in the short term through poisoning the air we breathe in the hope of maybe saving people 100 years down the road in case the global warmist mullahs are right.
commented 2015-10-01 14:23:25 -0400
Imagine, I was compelled to create a Rebel account to comment an error on Ezra’s part in this report. Let me proceed without prejudice as follows.
The VW emissions cheating was a result of “unintended consequences”. How so? The conversion to Diesel was to reduce CO2 emissions as diesel inherently emits less CO2. A solution to a fake problem. Unfortunately, diesel emits far more particulates and NOx emissions. NOx emissions are “real pollution”, far more in your face obnoxious, (as any city public transit buss demonstrates) and dangerous to human health than the phony CO2 pollution. The NOx results in the tests are what VW were, and are, faking.
Now I may be wrong but in this report Ezra seems to be implying that VW was faking CO2 emissions. They did not have to do that because diesel combustion inherently emits lower CO2 emissions, the principle reason to consider diesel as a fuel. The engineering struggle at VW was to develop reductions in NOx emissions, without the application of “blue tech” which is much more expensive but which works. I don’t believe it could be done by computer controlled combustion which they were ,seemingly, implying.
In conclusion we have VW attempting to circumvent non issue non polluting CO2 emissions by using diesel (inherently a lower CO2 emitter) with a much higher NOx (real pollution) emitter. Unable to do this without the application of blue tech they just said “too hell with it” and set up a fake code in the engine control computer. The joke is on the leftist progressive phony green activist fools as usual, the unintended consequences of replacing fake issues with real problems while posing as stewards of propriety. Of course they will be so incensed at this fraud upon them that there is no recourse but to invoke the most severe response, as ideologues can never have their mantra ridiculed.
The general tone of the report is of course correct that faking emissions is not a good thing to do but to reference CO2 as the emission was in error. Ezra may have to provide a (rare) correction for this article, and a spanking to his fact checkers, on this one.
Nonetheless continue the good fight Ezra.

A friend sent this, it is quite perfect! (funny but true)
The Washington Post….

The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the
seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department
yesterday from Consulafft, at Bergen, Norway. Reports from fishermen, seal hunters
and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard-
of temperatures in the Arctic zone. Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice
has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes.
Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm.
Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued,
while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared. Very few seals and
no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which
have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.

OOPS!…..

I apologize, I neglected to mention that this report was from NOVEMBER 2, 1922, as
reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post – 93 years ago!

We’ve had climate changes for centuries before now, and will have them in the
centuries to come. There’s not a darn thing we mere humans can do about it.
But those who want to control our lives are so arrogant they think they control the world.

Remember when Stephan Dion pushed his “Green Shift” carbon tax in the election, and he lost big time. Well, Ontario is getting a carbon tax (not until after the election) and not a peep. NDP/Liberals are talking carbon tax, and not a peep from the media. Boy, how times have changed. Get ready for an extra 15 cents/litre in the new year. You won’t even notice it, because gas prices are so low. And nobody will say a peep!
