Earth Hour 2015 a Canada-wide failure -- even David Suzuki kept his lights on

Rebel Staff

Earth Hour isn't cool any more: This year in Toronto, power use was down only 3.5%, far less than the 15% mark back when this "festival of darkness" was fashionable.

On the other side of the country, someone snapped a picture of one of David Suzuki's four homes at the height of Earth Hour, which shows his house "with lights blazing."

So which country "won" Earth Hour? Tune in and find out!

Liza, again, awesome comments :)
Brian Peckett, totally agree! In my family, we have a tradition going back to the first-ever Earth Hour. We light up our entire house, including Christmas lights, whether we’re home or not. We think of it as a blazing beacon of rationality standing alone and defiant amid a wine-black sea of confusion, ignorance and fear. It was my mother’s idea originally, but we all took to it immediately.
I wonder if Suzuki was even home when the lights were on at his house. And does anyone else think those lights look like traditional halogen or incandescent bulbs? Hmmmm…..

I’m dropping off all these nasty low wattage curly toxic light bulbs off at the door of one of his lavish homes, I just have to figure out which address might catch him home.

Whaddaya mean EVEN Suzuki had his lights on… of COURSE he had HIS lights on, he’s too important to be expected to conserve energy, drive small cars, video conference rather than fly etc etc.

There are 2 types of environmentally minded people, Conservationists, and Environmentalists.

Conservationist: One who alters their OWN behaviour to try and reduce damage to the planet and/or environment.

Envrionmentalist: One who tries to force OTHERS to change their behaviour rather than changing their own (because they are too important to have to change their own), to try and reduce damage to the planet and/or environment.

Idiots like Suzuki and Gore are in the latter group!

Earth hour! What is earth hour? And what is the point?

Do you mean the David Suzuki who travels all over the world in a jet to spread his bullshit ? It’s hard to believe how his study of fruit flies in a haze of whackie tobaccie smoke 40 years ago brought him to be such a know-it-all climatologist.

Great to see the bad guys losing.

We did our part- followed “too spooky’s” example, changed nothing. lol! OK, so I lied, didn’t even think about it but I did write a letter in support of the Enbridge pipeline in support of our economic security. “Too spooky” wins the blue ribbon for “Most disingenuous” individual in Canadian politics.

I wonder if Gore turned his lights out in all his mansions?

Nuts! When WAS Earth hour? Must have been on the local news after another kick-the-dog story. St. Suzi is out of town, and burning CBC bucks keep his lights efficiently lit. Bear in mind, this is Vancouver; shutting off one lamp will devalue the property by 10 to 20 percent.

I was working. What was Suzuki’s excuse?

Darn! Missed another one.

Hey Ezra, I did my part for earth hour… I turned on every light in the house. I celebrate man’s innovation and creativeness. I love being able to heat my home in the winter, get fresh fruits and vegetables when it is -30. I refuse to feel guilty for our progress. Before we harnessed fossil fuels, human lifespan was less than 40 years. Now it is over 80 (in industrialized countries).
Don’t get me wrong, I truly believe we have to invest in alternative (renewable) power sources, but that doesn’t mean we have to sacrifice lifespan, quality of life and future innovation (do you really think the next big breakthrough is going to come by candle light?) for an ideal that isn’t ready for real life.

I conserve year round. I always thought one hour of darkness was silly. Well put Ezra.

Yet another propaganda failure.

Good, let’s never mention it again.

For Earth Hour, I turned down the thermostat, shut off all the lights, farted into a balloon and tried to light the slowly escaping methane gas for light and heat. It didn’t work; damned near burnt the apartment down! Next year I’m keeping the lights on!

There was an Earth Hour? And I missed it? Damn… Next year :-)

Where is our friend David Suzuki these days? Flying back from somewhere warm on his spring break?
commented 2015-03-30 19:55:41 -0400
It is not at all surprising that David Suzuki did not cut his power usage during Earth Hour since he is one of Canada’s premiere hypocrites.

I am all for “human achievement hour” and not just an hour but a lifetime.

David Suzuki is a CBC douche bag fraud. Rot in hell you pig!!

Saint Suzuki didn’t play: say it isn’t so!
