"It was our way of saying, 'The reinforcements are coming'": Our LIVE election night launch from our new TV studio -- and what's next

Rebel Staff

We decided to debut TheRebel.media's new crowdfunded TV studio during live coverage of the October 19 federal election returns.

Sure, that was a risky decision. Construction had only finished just a few days before the first show!

Over the course our two-hour-plus broadcast, we had a few glitches with lighting and audio.

Yet overall, the show went really well and audience reaction was positive.

Last night, over 100,000 individual Canadians came to TheRebel.media; compare that with Peter Mansbridge on CBC, who gets about 700,000 viewers on a typical night.

And we attracted those viewers without a penny of government funding, or even a marketing budget.

The next step? TheRebel.media will launch its daily one-hour TV program.

It's all part of our vow to be a major journalistic force during the Justin Trudeau years -- especially now that the rest of Canada's already meager "conservative" media is in disarray.

Thanks to all TheRebel.media viewers and donors who made that possible! There's more to come.

People standing on the blue screen looked goofy and the audio sucked but the substance of the discussions and analysis was great and that is what matters. I should mention that the Rebel web site is tout simplement excellent. The Rebel needs a real studio!

Ezra, good to see you have your old show back.

Suggestion for you guys. Get Harper on your show. Have him tell us what it was like to be PM. Harper is not done. He can still help with this fight against the left madness. Actually, thinking about it. Your next big broadcast will be the leadership convention. Try to be there live if you can.

OK, I understand this was a first, in more ways than one. But here’s a few pointers. First, you should have been sitting instead of standing. It looked like you were floating. Second, the interviews were not the greatest. There was no play by play of what the polling stations where reporting. I had you and CTV on at the same time so could watch the dreadful event as it was unfolding. You’ve got four years. So you have time to improve and you will. This is a new arena. No one is on line like this. SunNews is gone, to the delight of the left. But our views will not be silenced. Keep going guys, you are the only sanity in this insane world.

Conservatives and Canada needs a TV network to compensate for the one-sided reporting of left wing media. EZRA this should be your goal, you could become the Bill O’Rielly of the North.

One word. Lavalieres.
Plus – the standing up and walking around thing just doesn’t work, at all.

I couldn’t help but notice that even some foreign news channels, such as Russia Today, Democracy Now and Al Jazeera, seemed to be congratulating the Liberal win in their news segments. Now more than ever, we need to have a right of center news alternative.

We’re with you, Ezra. It’s the conservative content you are bringing us that will make the one hour show a success.
Good thing you ran the election night program first. It allowed you to get a test run on the studio and feedback from the viewers to find out what needs fixing. And it wasn’t bad, other than the sound level, which obviously can be fixed. Really looking forward to the nightly REBEL show. That will begin to really put THEREBEL.MEDIA on the map.

As important as they are, Godspeed in your endeavors, to THEREBEL.

Congratulations on your noble achievement with your new studio. You probably are aware of sound problems, but some constructive feedback may help. I had to give up trying to hear after a short while due to the poor sound which had an echo chamber quality. Individual mikes are essential because if we can’t hear you, the whole idea is for naught. Forget the fancy studio set-up until the sound is fixed; I want to hear you. All the best to you.

Nice post Ezra. The broadcast last night was certainly the only one worth watching. It was especially good to see Theo Caldwell make an appearance as well.

I am always promoting therebel.media to my friends who seem only to have been feeding off the pablum from CBC and CTV. I will tell you that EVERY story and fact I have learned from and related to others come as a complete surprise to them, and often they are rightly shocked.

Whether concerned Canadians gain enough interest in the defense of our culture and values, only time will tell. All I can do is to keep promoting. Thanks also to all out there who may have had similar experiences in their recommendations to friends and colleagues.

Ezra, you have my support all the way.I would like to volunteer to help you out .If I can please let me know.I loved watching your show on The Sun News Network and I love what you are doing now.The same go’s with Brain Lilly.Keep standing up for the truth and what is right.Canadians need your voice.Yrs ago I lost all trust with the likes of The Toronto Star, The CBC, CTV and The Globe and Mail. All liberal minded newspapers. It seems like they love distorting and telling half truth’s.I think most of all I hated the dirty tactics that they play, below the belt stuff.I’d love to see someone go undercover and investigate them but I guess that would be an impossible task. ..Over the yrs they used some dirty tactics against Stephen Harper.Perhaps some was true, I not sure.Anyhow again keep up the great work that you are doing…….Cheers

was scrutineering for Conservatives on election night so missed it but you’re going to be my only news source for a while – for other like minded individuals, I bought an Amazon Fire Stick for $35 and can stream all my favourite shows and movies galore so have cut out the mainstream media.

Now all I need to do is buy a hat. :)

I am quite happy that theRebel has a studio now. Even though they had technical difficulties on election night, I think it went well for a “both feet in” attempt. They had new hardware and software to get to know. i imagine there are a lot of setting and controls to get to work together. The sound is certainly one thing they need to work on, but the green glow around the people and the odd shadows they fixed.

My hat off to the one controlling that fancy new equipment and my hat off to Ezra, Brian, and the rest of the team!

The most important thing was there — the content. It was like watching The Source again. It seems to me that for a reasonable amount of money, you could have a real set (at least with faux finishes) and avoid green-screen issues altogether. The set also needs sound baffling, as in addition to the microphone problems, there was a strong echo of a small room with hard surfaces. I just set up a monthly donation to the only source that dares to report on many important issues.

It was excellent for a first effort, thanks guys, amazing really. Good things to come….
