“Nanny” Notley displays contempt for rural Alberta by changing laws on ATV use

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

The Alberta NDP are ready to pick another fight with Alberta farmers and ranchers but this time, the NDP are ready to go to war with hunters, outdoor enthusiasts, motorsports fans and ATV dealers.

What’s going to make all these people mad? The NDP are making changes to the laws surrounding ATV use in Alberta. They are examining helmet laws for both public and private lands and mandatory age restrictions for ATV use.

Putting age restrictions on ATVs will infuriate farmers and hutterites who use ATVs as farm tools. Age restrictions will also render the smaller machines many ATV dealers carry nearly unsellable. New laws would also mean directing limited rural police resources towards the millions of acres of Alberta crown land when violent crime is on the rise.

The NDP say they're going to consult with stakeholders about any law changes. Do they mean the same “consultations” we all saw with Bill 6?

Just like Bill 6, Dear Nanny Notley is back to save those poor hillbilly kids from their witless and negligent redneck parents.

The lefties love their “if it saves one life” argument. They use it for everything from gun control to bike lanes. It’s an argument best used when standing on the graves of someone else's kids doing things their grieving parents never asked you to do.

Is this the NDP master plan? Are the NDP saving the environment by making sure nobody ever goes outside again?

I hear Notley is considering several new rules and regulations to “save human life” in this province. Like mandatory water wings on every swimmer, regardless of age. Back country ski patrollers to arrest and fine skiers caught out on avalanche-prone slopes. The NDP just love their constituents (or is their own tyrannical power?) Anyway, just kidding folks, the above was pure satire.

Yawn, conservative spin. The 121 open consultations to farmers and rual before the first draft with atv dealerships having 3 of the votes on a council for drafting the new bill. But hey rebel will talk and talk like an 16y old girl on the phone about nothing.

I’m an atv rider, and can tell you these are potentially dangerous machines. My paramedic friend can tell you about riders who will probably have to wear a helmet for the rest of their lives because they didn’t then. And more who didn’t make it.
As far as age limitations, there could and should be a restriction that relates age to size of machine. Kids quads are meant for smaller kids, so kids should be allowed to ride those (with adult supervision).
Having said that, socialists usually think they are the answer to questions no one ever asked and will undoubtedly go way too far again.
Join the Alberta PC Party, elect Jason Kenney as leader, unite the right with REAL conservatives, and unelect these morons while you can. If they’re only in for 1 term, it should only take a generation to undo the damage. I can’t believe you didn’t learn from our idiocy in Saskatchewan.

Socialism reminds me of Orwell so much these days. They’ve become a pathetic bunch of dictators and much like their Federal counterparts, the fiberals, they can’t manage their way out of a wet paper bag.

PETER TOTH commented: “ATV’s Motorcycles, boats, and RV’s are all the signs of independence and prosperity. So it comes as no surprise that they would chip away at those signs, with the aim of eliminating them. After all, if everyone can not have one, then no one should have one.”

Peter. I think you may have sourced the cause of this “law” in the first sentence. Independence. Socialists hate any kind of freedom for the peasants! Makes it harder to enact a communistic dictatorship!

I wonder. Are horses next? Maybe there should also be an age limit for bicles. BTW they can start driving at 14, but I probly shouldn’t give them any ideas.

Actually, they are not laws. They are statutes, enactments, codes, or by-laws, they are enactments made by a De Facto Government agency and are not Rule of Law. Laws can be enacted but you can’t just make up new LAWS. There is also an issue of Jurisdiction. Who has Jurisdiction over a Man/Woman/Human being? If there is no victim there is no crime. Fundamental Laws are described under International Law, Common Law, and Natural Law. So for example if I don’t like you peeing on the road in front of my house, I can’t make a Law to stop you.
Tyranny can be an Omnipotent Morale Busy body imposing his morality on you according to C.S. Lewis.
Governments have gone amok in their delusion of protecting you from yourself.

just another big gov nanny state bullshit, it is all the ndp know, leftys need the gov to wipe there nose and tuck them in at night as they are generally helpless and fairly useless at looking after themselves, Notley and her bunch of ndp have no idea how anyone but them thinks and will sure get a sample of what we think next election.

ATV’s Motorcycles, boats, and RV’s are all the signs of independence and prosperity. All of which flies in the face of who and what the NDP are all about. So it comes as no surprise that they would chip away at those signs, with the aim of eliminating them. After all, if everyone can not have one, then no one should have one. That is the NDP way.

You don’t make laws about another man’s horses unless you own and ride a horse yourself and you don’t make ATV laws unless you use ATVs. Pretty simple formula that used to be the axiom of legislating back when we actually had populist representative democracy – but with autocratic ideologue regimes such as the Alberta Dips or the selfie-butts federal globalist regime, regulation is a way of micromanaging the peasantry, squeezing them for more revenues, damaging your ideological enemies and rewarding your globalist patrons.

In my living memory this Notley government have been the most despicable self-serving bureaucratic tyrants ever (mistakenly) put in power. I really do believe when this regime is ousted there HAS to be indictments and jail time for the level of malfeasant breaches of public trust and regulatory vindictiveness they have shown towards non union interests.

IF this is all within the bounds of legal governance, then the political system needs to be rejected and reformed.

Sheila; it a progressive encroachment into the lives of all Canadians. I started a very long time ago and you are just noticing it now because it happens to touch you. Maybe the next time we elect a conservative government we should insist it roll back all legislation affecting the personal lives of Canadians. No seat belt laws, no helmet laws, to liquor and tobacco laws and so on. You may be surprised that most still want the government to meddle in our private decisions.

Ron – take your warped philosophy and move to Afghanistan- your useless ass will be used to some wondrous good over there!
Keep a vigilant eye out – dipstick – because one day while your bending over to kiss Nutley’s bottom – someone will come up and kick your useless ass to where it belongs!
commented 2016-08-11 01:39:47 -0400
Ron C sorry but we do not need the government to tell us what to think and do like you require, we can think for ourselves, we are not helpless children like you lefties.

Just under 3 years to go.
It can’t come soon enough.

Nutley will do more to unite Conservatism in Alberta than anyone could dream.

So if you get a conservative govt elected next time do what the federal liberals are doing . Undo everything notley did. As the the liberals are undoing everything Mr Harper did

Yeah, isn’t it GREAT?

That will be the day a communist dictator will tell me what I can drive, ride & must wear while on my own property. I am curious if the sheep have had enough yet or will they just continue to sit back and let the ndpee fuck the province.
A complete shut down of downtown Edmonton is needed. People from all over Alberta need to gather around the parliament buildings & block the entire government buildings. The people need to show them who has the power.

Bad laws, stupid laws, repressive laws and laws designed to protect us from ourselves MUST BE DISOBEYED …. That tack has served gays, muslims and naggers very well. It works …. even pot smokers pulled it off … who gets busted for a doob anymore?

Those NDP assholes are a one time wonder and their damage will be undone when the adults take over three more long horrid years.

Hillary will be to America what Rachel is to Alberta. Dirty barbarians in your dirty confines. Probably can’t spell limousine

@ Canadian Mongrel

Yes, you should not mention what Alberta farmer kids can do before the age of 12 because if an NDPer reads it you’ll cause them to have a seizure … oh, wait … never mind.

@kevin Grabowsky…you have it in a nutshell…there is a place in Nova Scotia called “three pools”…the local swimming hole. It is downstream from a hydro dam…the main falls are called “Hells Gate”. It is a physical challenge to even climb down into the ravine…people get carried and air lifted out with injuries just about every year…there is flash flood danger….but it is unspeakably beautiful and fond memories live in the hearts of the many intrepid enough to go there….it is posted everywhere by the power company not to trespass…..their water reservoir towers are covered in grafitti…the paths past the barricades are well worn….the scale of the civil disobediance is unstopable….Just about everyone who attends Acadia University has been there……..fuck the nanny state………:-)

Simple solution: don’t comply!!!!! Keep telling yourself sheeple…….. I’m a grown up ……….. I don’t need bedwetters to dictate to me…………tell the nice police person that wants to enforce this law and any other ndp law to go pound salt, remember you are paying his/her wages . If the ndp want to act like spoiled brats, then let’s show them some redneck pay back. Stay safe, stay strong, stay free.

I hate to mention this because of what the champagne socialists will next do. Farm kids learn to drive before age 12. Drive trucks. Drive tractors. Drive combines. However, what these kids are learning is a work ethic, which union types have absolutely no concept of.

So Ms. Invisible energy minister, did you agitate against kids, including your Boyd family members, driving farm machinery when you were a rural teacher? Or did you just go three monkey like you are doing now.
