Academy of errors? Future Oscar gags to be more “culturally sensitive”

David MenziesMission Specialist

It seems you just can’t crack a joke these days without some sensitive hothouse flower being mortally offended. Has the time come to implement a moratorium on humour and comedy?

Jerry Seinfeld confessed his dislike of campus gigs saying, “A lot of people tell me, ‘Don’t go near colleges. They’re so PC.’” Subjects that used to be the bailiwick of standup comedians are now off limits but political correctness hasn’t just won on campuses. The virus has spread throughout society.

Like when Academy Awards organizers apologized for what a group of Asian actors and filmmakers called the “tone-deaf” portrayal of Asians during this year’s ceremony.

They’re referring to Chris Rock’s apparently offensive and insensitive Asian joke which I’d think most Asians would find quite funny. Certain elite members of the community called it “tasteless” and undignified. Was it?

The gag portrayed school aged kids of Asian and Jewish descent as over-achievers working for a prestigious accounting firm. Is it now racist to offer praise to certain groups? And why no outrage from the Jewish community? This business of offensive comedy is complicated.

The Academy issued a grovelling apology any way in a statement that said:

“We are committed to doing our best to ensure that material in future shows [will] be more culturally sensitive.”

Translation: future Oscar gags will be sanitized for your protection. I predict the next telecast will be a really boring politically-correct snooze-fest. How sad.

The best comedy always pushes the envelope and takes risks. But in this country, we’ve actually seen so-called “insensitive” comedians hauled in front of Human Rights Commissions. Now you can’t even joke about positive attributes without causing offence!

I’m calling for a five year moratorium on all forms of humour, comedy and satire!

Maybe the perpetually offended can use this time to grow a thicker skin.

sjw’s are at the peak of their power right now.
and they are about to be crushed to death by an onslaught of cultural libertarians who have had enough of them telling them how to live their lives. pc culture has peaked and is about to go over the edge into a watery grave.
these are exciting times we live in.

I saw a Netflix comedian who joked for killing babies and people that it was hilarious. Then he did one on puppies and the room fell silent. How far we have fallen.

Bring Back Benny Hill, let some of these politically correct dumbed down Femmes take in some of that.

To me the biggest joke, right now is Islam, unfortunately this will not be amusing in the near future.

Didn’t the Ayatollah Khomeini say, “There is no humour in Islam”? It looks like the Muslims have taken over Hollywood as well as Belgium.

Oscars will fade away to nothing – sooner the better.

How would this joke play today?: There has been no change in global temperature over the last 18 years, so clearly, as we are told by 99.9% of the ‘scientists’, this is the adverse effect of man-made emissions of carbon dioxide and we need to double down on reducing those emissions, otherwise a terrible calamity awaits us.

This is what society has become, now that the inmates have the right to not be offended. What a bunch of crazy making garbage. I wouldn’t want a pity prize given because of the colour of my skin. It seems socialism has destroyed just about everything, in the guise of fairness. I think that the best will always find a way to rise to the top, no matter how much interference is at play. Censorship is a messy business and it destroys a free society. We are boxing ourselves into a corner, and eventually those who value freedom for themselves and others, will rise and return fire!

the movies are garbage as of late, the actors are whinny, over-paid cry-babies and there are way too many lousy remakes. you buy your own star on the walk of fame. freed slaves do what they always do … freakout because they are shitty and they don’t get recognition for being shitty. the ‘actors’ give little thanks to the people who made them stars, the people who put their butts in the seats in the theatre. it’s one giant circle-jerk for jaded rich people.
I ain’t down wit dat.

Ingsoc, where comedy and humor will be banned , welcome to newspeak, you could always find somebody that will be offended by something.

I’d like to put these perpetually offended fools in a straight-jacket, tie them to a chair, and give them a bit of the old “Clockwork Orange” treatment – - – pry their eyelids open and make them watch non-stop episodes of “All in the Family” until they laugh.
