Alberta election: Mandel's tough fight in Edmonton-Whitemud

Marc PatroneRebel Commentator

If he's worried, he's not showing it. Health Minister Stephen Mandel is in a tough fight with the NDP to hold onto his seat in Edmonton-Whitemud, at least according to polls.

His political opponents say Mandel is dogged by "a lot of complaints about the health tax" introduced in the latest budget.

Mandel denies there's any real anger at the door over the tax and says there's no viable alternative to the PCs anyway.

"There's some frustration but for the most part I have time to explain to people what we're doing, they're very supportive. It's understanding what we can deliver vs the other two parties, one goes far to the right, the other goes far to the left," says Mandel.

As for polls, Mandel dismisses any idea he's in trouble.

How come he isn’t investigated for the $70000 he expensed while mayor for Oilers season passes

Having Prentice campaigning in Mandels riding shows that he is in trouble. Leaders don’t do that unless their internal polling is showing trouble on the horizon.

No viable alternative to the PC’s? Did he seriously say that? I wish it was in the video clip. Mandel wants your votes because, hey, “we’re bad, but there’s no other alternative”. That’s what dictatorial governments think. Sorry Stevie, the people will decide if there’s a viable alternative, not you and your PC cronies.

Hold everything! Did you just hear what I heard? It’s Howie, right? No. Sorry. You’re both jokers. It’s hard to tell you apart. Stephen Mandel just said he was a Liberal! Seriously! He said: “One party is too far to the Right and one party is too far to the Left.” That’s the classic claim of a Liberal. What then is he doing in the PC Party?!!

Just wait. He’s on his way out…

How did the guy who gave a billionaire a whack of cash from the city while Mayor get elected in the first place? Fraud? If the people are ignorant enough to elect him once they’ll do it again. If they were defrauded, they better follow through on their votes this time by registering votes at exit polls. Corruption is worse here than third world countries.

Anybody but Mandel! He was a terrible Mayor and can never be trusted with public money ever again!
