Alberta’s Environment Minister says she’s not afraid of much but shouldn’t she fear voters?

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

Alberta's Environment Minister, Shannon Phillips, has big plans for Alberta and she's not scared to make them happen.

She said as much to the Canadian Press in an interview over the weekend.

Phillips was talking about how the NDP will continue to push ahead with their green agenda seemingly at all costs. She said, "Climate policy can be — and is — a job creator and community developer and a way that communities can really take ownership over how they develop."

I'm giving that kooky statement about job creation and community development a quick reality check.

Encana and TransAlta both cancelled projects citing the climate change policy in Alberta. Shell cancelled their Carmon Creek project just hours after the provincial budget came down this fall.

Those are hundreds of Alberta jobs just gone because of NDP climate policy. Many companies handed out pink slips instead of Christmas bonuses this year.

Ok so the NDP climate policy didn’t create jobs. But what about that “community developing”?

Oil and Gas companies give back to the communities they operate in. In small towns, big cities and everywhere in between across Alberta our hockey teams, recreations centres, community events and parks are sponsored by "evil" big oil.

Oil and gas invests in education. Shell sponsors a manufacturing training facility at NAIT and Enbridge has an initiative that helps 10,000 Aboriginal kids stay in school.

Those are the kind of community investments that dry up when our oil industry is attacked the way it has been by this NDP government. And I'm willing to be it won't be replaced on the same scale by any benevolent green technology firms. They're used to taking grants, not giving them. But Phillips will press on with her destructive plan to change Alberta. She's undeterred by our outrage and our protests because as she says, "I'm a New Democrat in Alberta," and "I'm not really afraid of much."

It's good to be brave in politics but for good governance, a politician needs to have a healthy fear of the voters. It keeps them honest and accountable.

Someone once said, "When government fears the people, there is liberty. When people fear the government there is tyranny."

The NDP budget is a disaster. Over 50,000 are out of work. Investment is fleeing the province.

I agree, go after each MLA and find those skeletons in their closets, and then use the information to begin our counter attack to the insanity of the NDP’s policies. I know my dog could do a 100% better than these losers are doing, because my dog loves people, whereas these crooks only love themselves and their greedy cling-ons.

Where there is no means of recall, the citizens are required to apply force on a representative who behaves in such a cavalier manner. Give it time and she will be taught valuable lessons about herself and those she thought she had power over. Such arrogance does not go unnoticed for long.

Insidious comments like this ministers really prove the need for recall legislation across the country and perhaps shorter terms of office, maybe three years. If the only thing a politician is scared of is the next election, maybe they need to be kept on edge a bit more.

Darryl Teskey – I think the constant baiting is going to backfire on this immature minister of nothing. Anyone foolish enough to think they know everything, deserves absolutely everything they will get.

It like she wants a conflict no doubt she is using what she wrote in her book on how to stop the oilsands. Conflict is what this old bag is all about. Then she can scream look im a victim im bullied by the big bad Albertans.

Alberta has Notley, Canada has Trudeau: communism all the way! And we got it because people who should never be allowed to vote in elections were allowed to vote. To hell with the destructive universal franchise – I want intelligence examinations for voter rights. If you don’t know the issues and the people, you should never be allowed near a voting booth, let alone a political candidate convention. Stupid begets stupid and the only cure for stupid is education.

The bigger the mouth, the bigger the fall! I think it the height of arrogance, to think she’s got everything figured out and she’s in control. I look forward to the lesson coming her way!

«"I’m a New Democrat in Alberta," and “I’m not really afraid of much.”»

They NDP know they were elected by accident of the civil war among Alberta conservatives and have no chance of re-election, so they can execute their ideology without concern for what voters think of it.

This taunting will get the Minister no where, and she really is taunting Albertans.

Oooooh…she’s only worried about her problems – oh, the poor self-absorbed progressive. We’ll see so bad it gets when the starving are beat their way to her doorstep – how funny will she be then?

Notley and her band of mongoloid idiots are setting themselves for fantastic beatings over the next three years.

I predict that an NDP MLA will be assaulted over the course of the year, causing all their MLAs to have around-the-clock security and safe houses – all at taxpayer expense, of course.

Keep up it up, mush heads. They’re get what they deserve soon enough.

Every communist/socialist should be taken to a place where they can live their dream without oil and gas, cell phones, plastics, cars, etc, and by the end of the first winter they would all be frozen or starved to death and then we will not have to worry about the small minority who want to force their way on others, let them go back to the stone age and let the rest of us move into the future. I do not understand why people want society to move backwards.

I do not want one grotesque windmill going up anywhere, it’s insane to shut down our coal energy, most reliable and cheap energy, how do we stop these ndp nutbars?
commented 2016-01-05 02:20:34 -0500
Idiots who voted ndp instead of wildrose, it baffles me what we’re they thinking? Media coverage, ctv, global, cbc is absolutely pathetic, they are a huge problem, seems like they are always in favor of ndp. We have to get rid of these insane ndp BEFORE, BEFORE, THEY PUT THESE GOD-AWFUL WINDMILLS EVERYWHERE ON OUR FARMLANDS AND RANCHES. WE HAVE TO START PROTESTING OR DO SOMETHING NOW BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO?

I find it extremely interesting that the only NDP MLA with a science degree is Marlin Schmidt who has a degree in environmental science. His specialty was soil remediation and he worked for the Ministry of Environment for 10 years. He has extensive experience with the oil and gas industry.
Contrast this with Shannon Phillips whose environmental training and experience extends to co-authoring a booklet several years ago with an environmental eco-terrorist group focusing on shutting down the Oilsands.
This speaks volumes about the NDP who mouth platitudes like " we’re not the enemy of the oil & gas industry" yet pass over the most qualified person in their party for anti-oil zealot.
Notley & Phillips are two faced hypocrites.

Everyone has something they fear – she has not lived much – or it has been very protected and entitled – if there is little she fears.

Yannie the bigoted loser, when have we attacked anyone at a protest moron? You progressive clowns do it all the time. Or do you mean the Muslims who attacked that Jewish family in Calgary? Of course you don’t you are a pathetic hypocrite. LMAO!

Yannie is the poster boy for NDP in Alberta. His mommy or maybe union boss told him who to vote for and like a good little commie went along for the ride. He has nothing to offer except a quick insult or two. Stupid is, stupid does.

Yannie …. The coward leftist progressive fucktard chimes in from the peanut gallery. The one that hides behind a fake name…..COWARD!!! It’s not fear, it’s a genuine concern, unlike the fear you have when posting. Having to cower behind a fake name and sling insults is in fact…..cowardly. LOSER!!

If I fear anyone, it’s the intolerant torch and pitchfork gang chiming in on this site. Fortunately, stupidity on your behalf mitigates those fears.

Sickening, gut wrenching and infuriating. Not the NDP socialists who said what they were going to do and are now destroying this once magnificent province. No, the gullible, mindless populous of Alberta who voted the NDP into power. In very short time you will see the disastrous fruits of your election night ballot choice and I hope you recoil in horror and self shame. When end up sitting at home on your duff, unemployed, unproductive, useless to society just remember that you are the only one to blame, not me. I voted right wing.
