New Brunswick HST: “High sales taxes combined with high income taxes is a cocktail for economic disaster”

Brian LilleyRebel Co-Founder

As you’ve heard, the liberal government in New Brunswick will be raising the HST from 13% to 15%.

Kevin Lacey is the Atlantic Director of the Canadian Taxpayers Federation.

He joins me to discuss the wrong-headed idea that many governments in the east have that they can tax their way to prosperity.

Listen as Kevin bats away every lefty misconception about what raising taxes will accomplish and explains what really happens when governments go down this road.

While eastern Canada stays on welfare paid for by the western provinces, the western provinces will drain their non-renewable resources. Then when the west is out of non-renewable resources, the east will start to mine their own just after they change or abolish the Provincial Equalization system so they do not have to pay out equalization to the west. Quebec has already stated as much.

“Are Liberal voters masochistic or just plain stupid”
A little of both?

All Liberal governments keep taxing more and yet more again … and people keep voting for them. Sure, the Liberals are jerks for continually raising the taxes and making bigger government, but the real idiots are the stupid Liberal voters, the blasted fools. Are Liberal voters masochistic or just plain stupid?

Look to the past for answers:
“Not only will we take measures to create over 10,000 jobs, we will also refocus government policy to create the conditions for thousands and thousands more,” Gallant said in a statement.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/new-brunswick/new-brunswick-votes-2014/liberal-leader-brian-gallant-promises-10-000-jobs-in-platform-1.2759018

“we will also refocus government policy” – translation – “we will raise taxes for pet projects”

This was part of Gallant’s campaign promises:

“Creating needed economic stimulus and short-term jobs through a strategic investment of an additional $900 million over six years in infrastructure needed to ensure safety and long-term job growth.”

Think about this. Where would they get the $900 million to “invest” in this project?

Answer: raise taxes, create new fees

It’s hard to believe the voters didn’t see this coming.

I agree Brian, this sounds like an exact copy straight out of Wynne’s playbook. Promise jobs and investment in the province (reality = public sector job creation: new fees, levies, and increase taxes).

Well I’m not sympathetic at all. They voted for the crooked liberals, so they can enjoy being taxed to death.

Behold Alberta! your future!
After generations of dead end liberal provincial governments and transfer payment federal government indentured servitude New Brunswick is now left with capitulating to union shake downs, raising taxes and further forcing business out of the province and a collapsing economy.
