UPDATE: "The Press Gallery supports the right of journalists to provide vigorous and diverse coverage of the Alberta Legislature"

Rebel Staff

Today, the controversy sparked by Alberta NDP Premier Rachel Notley's banning of two Rebel journalists prompted the following press release:

MEDIA RELEASE
February 16, 2016

The following statement has been made today by Alberta Legislature Press Gallery president Darcy Henton on behalf of the gallery executive and its membership to clear up any confusion over media accreditation at the Alberta legislature:

“Journalists are not required to have accreditation from the Alberta Legislature Press Gallery in order to cover media conferences at the  legislature.

"It has long been the practice in Alberta that reporters and photographers who present their news credentials to legislature security can acquire visiting media passes to cover news conferences.

"The Press Gallery supports the right of journalists to provide vigorous and diverse coverage of the Alberta Legislature.”

Good comment. However socialist tyrants would rather make their decisions behind closed doors, free of scrutiny. The 20th century saw this in Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. In Canada of the 21st century we see this in the No Democratic Party of Alberta and the Liebranos in Ottawa refusing to tell of their plans to import a jihadi army into Canada! We are in for interesting times ahead, and possibly Civil War! WW3 is around the corner, likely to start in the middle east from an attack on Israel, or possibly Europe responding in another crusades campaign to rid themselves of the “rapefugees”!

So. . . does this mean that the Rebel may now enter once again? If so, great news; and it saves a court challenge and the money involved for same. Unless of course, the above news still does not apply to the Rebel because in the Alberta Legislature Press Gallery media release they are using the word “journalist”, or was it “reporter”, that they initially objected to (short memory). Anyway, I am hoping that it is good news for the Rebel. (Fingers crossed, and wallet handy.)

This is one of the most basic of freedoms in this country. We depend on the real journalists of Canada to be the " Fifth Estate ", the concept , not the CBC show. No matter who is in power it is the news media who are able to shed light on the workings of our elected officials , warts and all. If they deserve praise so be it, and if they should be held to account for their decisions, this is how the electorate becomes informed. No political party, regardless of ideology deserves to be without scrutiny, and in between elections we depend on the independent journalists to be the voice of the people, holding the elected officials to account for the decisions they make and the effect they have on the people they have been chosen to serve.

It’s shocking….Why has Canada fought in 2 world wars and many smaller ones?

- To be free… Free of what?

- Free of oppressive tyrannical and dictatorial governments.

- Free of extreme leftist Communism, Fascism Like Stalin, Hitler, Mussolini , Mao, etc.
- We fought wars to defend our rights and freedoms. So how far have we come since?
http://www.lop.parl.gc.ca/About/Parliament/Education/ourcountryourparliament/html_booklet/canadian-charter-rights-and-freedoms-e.html It’s shocking that…Now in 2016 in Canada, it’s huge news that a leftist provincial government is held to account and has to back down from oppressive tyrannical dictatorial behavior by attempting to muzzle freedom of thought, expression and the Press.

These lefties would never think of suppressing… ‘Freedom of Peaceful Assembly’ because that’s what allows them to protest pipelines and every other anti-development project they not so peacefully oppose.

What next will be attacked?…Freedom of Religion?

It’s shocking that…We also have a leftist Federal gov’t doing it’s best to dilute our rights and freedoms by flooding the country with anti christian migrants who’s culture has never known and is the antithesis to freedom. They are culturally resistant to assimilate especially to our freedom of religion as most are indoctrinated fanatically that their religion must dominate all others.

Wiilliam Mcdonell. I caught a portion of press gallery on CTV last night and although I wouldn’t describe Robert Fife being interviewed by Don Martin as being a fan but they did think it was a wrong move by the Notley government and they actually saw it as a gift to Ezra which would only bring him more attention.

Fife said that the Rebel.Media was borderline racist.

I was wondering where the (OBM) ‘Obedient Media Party’ was on this issue. What has taken so long?
Did the ALPGallery and OBM really have to huddle for days and debate it?

Didn’t they realize if they didn’t react swiftly they could also be singled out for being critical of the oppressive commie regime.

They should have been outraged at this basic Charter Right and Freedom of the press, which is normally immediately defended sacredly by all media.

It should have been front page news across the western world that a democratic government would try to selectively silence and shut out press that didn’t obediently say nice things about them!

All of the OBM should have had their cameras on Marcella Munro when she ordered Sheila and Holly to leave the press gallery lockup in the first Nazi-SS like illegal confrontation.

They are reporters, they usually always have their cameras at the ready. Maybe some OBM did have video but didn’t have the courage to speak up?

And then the commie Notley regime had the nerve to try it again like the KGB and even got their dumb bureaucrat Lawyer to answer in writing, confirming their tyrannical dictatorial intentions.

It’s a comedy of dumb and dumber… If this wasn’t TheRebel, they tried to bully, they may have gotten away with it.

Notley is using fear tactics to control the media and stop people speaking out against the NDP. People working are afraid of losing their jobs if they disagree with her platform and the people who are not working are afraid to be blackballed from getting jobs if they speak out against the government. People need to band together on this fight, if she can succeed in silencing the Rebel she will control what we are allowed to say and hear. That’s communism my friends, that’s what our fathers and grandfathers fought to stop.
Good Luck with your fight! when I saw the coverage across Canada, it was the best day in the last 9 months!

Watch big shots like Robert Fife go into hiding and have a sick day.

My bet is on Sheila and TheRebel to win! Crowd funding is definitely the way to go, when we are up against a government that is going to try and stick the taxpayers with their own bills, for toying with democracy. Make sure the government is paying for their own council. This is not the publics problem, and we had better not be paying for it.

Russia is a democracy and elected Putin and he controls the media, some have even died as a consequence of reporting on the Russian government’s activities.

Alberta is a democracy and elected Notley and she controls the media, so far no one has been killed.

However, all dictators eventually resort to killing those who disagree with them.

One term wonders. Dippers just made the one mistake that will throw them out of power for ever.

I repeat. Yet more proof of the dictatorial bent of the left. With Trudope in Ottawa and the No Democratic Party in Alberta, Canada should soon be an Islamic dictatorship!

Awesome!
I’m sure Notely will get her own copy. Well done Rebel!

Funny how “unaccredited” journalists are smelling a lot better than accredited politicians, eh?

@john Munro…Conrad Black was not a journalist nor a reporter but none of his employees were ever denied entry on that basis.

Kenneth… I certainly agree that a car crusher at some Alberta junk yard would provide a more visceral image of what is happening… I’m just suggesting that a simple mitt, that every family could afford, could be a constant source of derision and joy every time a baseball smacks into it… To fight a bitch like Notley, symbolism is important and empowering…
commented 2016-02-17 03:47:23 -0500
Andy, I think something like a car crusher would be more appropriate, if you can imagine the cars representing the tens of thousands of people who work (or used to work) in the oil and gas industry before Notley became Premier and before the NDP became the government of that now very unhappy and largely destroyed province.

Rebel, keep sending your excellent journalists to the Alberta Legislature to do their jobs as journalists as required. Let’s see what Notley does when she knows the whole country is watching and the media won’t tolerate her fascist mentality toward journalists who don’t consider their day’s work to consist of ignoring her destruction of Albera.
commented 2016-02-17 03:36:23 -0500
Keep rolling Alberta!… You have every right to be furious at this “government controls the media” fiasco… And again – you’ve heard me suggest it before – spring is coming; baseball season is coming; why doesn’t some Alberta entrepreneur start producing a line of catcher’s mitts called THE NOTLEY?… Those Alberta farms kids, whose family farms are being dissed, might take a special delight in catching a straight one over home plate into the crinckled face of THE NOTLEY
commented 2016-02-17 03:31:43 -0500
This outrageous jackbooted action by Notley has revealed what her real mentality is: Stalinist tyranny. Step on her toes and she will bring the full force of state power down on you, legally or not. She has to go, pronto.
commented 2016-02-17 01:59:21 -0500
You’re missing the point, John Munro. For one, Ezra identifies himself as a pundit or opinion journalist. The main point being, if Rupert Murdoch or Conrad Black declare themselves not to be reporters, does that disqualify their whole publication entity? Nevermind that someone should have to call themselves a reporter 24/7 in order to be able to report news, or even if they deny such, EXCEPT at such point as they are asked to submit their credentials, are they technically forbidden entry. If they are disruptive or the room is full (first come, first serve) then that is reasonable grounds. Otherwise it’s an authoritative excuse.
commented 2016-02-17 01:49:51 -0500
John. So typical of a stupid psychotic Lefty. Things change! Ever heard of that? No? We didn’t used to have smart phones, now we do. There was a time we didn’t have cars, now we do! Ezra has since then started a media company, so now he is. Get it? No, probably not. Lefty’s are psychotic, and have proven over and over again that they’re “incapable of learning”.
commented 2016-02-17 01:30:49 -0500

But that would never happen. MSM may give lip serves to freedom of the press, but they would never risk their privileged connections or safety to guarantee it for others.
commented 2016-02-17 00:50:23 -0500
Apparently not there Darcy ol’ buddy. Talk to your strong arm guy with the badge and the “Get her out of here” attitude toward freedom of the press.
