Imagine if Christians took an issue with a gay sauna being too close to their church. They'd be called bigots and homophobes. But when Muslims do it, the police commissioner takes their side.
Greenhouse Health Club in Luton has withdrawn their application for an entertainment license which would have allowed them to sell sex toys and screen adult films after the Muslim community complained.
Police and Crime Commissioner Kathryn Holloway, a former TV host, lead the charge with the Muslim community against the sauna.
According to Breitbart, in a letter of objection sent to Luton Borough Council, she claimed the application has caused “widespread offence and very deep concern” and warned that if the application was allowed, “a number of potential policing issues may arise” because it was five minutes away from the mosque.
“Luton Borough Council is usually particularly aware of matters of cultural sensitivity,” she added. “I trust therefore that you will fully understand that, given the large and devout Muslim population in this area of the borough, there is naturally a high level of religious and cultural opposition to such a business among these residents which needs to be respected, in my view.”
Luton Borough Council told local paper Luton Herald & Post that it received 103 letters of objection to the application citing concerns of 'cultural sensitivity'.
In addition, a petition signed by 430 local residents included homophobic comments with some calling homosexuality a “brain disease”.
Holloway claims she knew nothing about the homophobic signatures on the petition and believed that this was actually a 'win' for the gay community. “This establishment is not representative of them as a whole,” she said.
