Canadian ex-pats Gavin McInnes and Steven Crowder on modern women, "microaggressions" and mixxed-up Montreal culture

Rebel Staff

They both started out in Montreal, but now Gavin McInnes and Steven Crowder represent the new wave of American conservative and libertarian punditry.

In this high-energy conversation, they discuss how their Canadian backgrounds let them talk to Americans about issues like race, health care and political correctness from a different perspective.

As former Anglo Montrealers, McInnes reminds Crowder:

"We've seen what happens when people try to control the language."

It's that distinct sensibility that makes their insights so valuable.

And of course, Crowder asks McInnes about how he "broke the internet" when he told young career women to "stop throwing away their ovaries:"

Joan Abernathy,
Now you’ve gone completely off your radical rocker. Where did I say, or even imply, that women or girls should be “forced” to do anything? Where did I say or imply that all women should stay home? And almost none of the remainder of your last two fevered replies to me had anything at all to do with the topic we were were debating.

Joan….I’m certain you DO…..that’s what struck me so funny……….:-)

Jack Riley – that was supposed to read 10 year-olds not 20 year -olds.

But it also applies to girls raped, full penetration, as babies.

In my work, I assisted a family in which the mother returned home from work one day – omg yes, she worked! – to find her 3 year-old and her 5 year-old standing in pools of blood after her husband had raped them, full penetration. I guess you’d just lock them up in an attic until they died because guess what? They could not bear children after that, so badly injured they were. And if they escaped the attic closet you want to stuff them into and managed to get a job, you’d want to make sure they never forget who the man is, and that he is always worth more than they are.

The mother of those girls was a good Catholic. That is why she stayed with the man that did that. I watched him cook shoe polish on the stove one night while his family had nothing to eat. They had 12 kids, though. Just to please people who think like you do. Not a stick of furniture, not even beds, and all the boys had criminal records by the time they were 12 years old.

But stay-at-home motherhood is apple pie, right? All women must perform it.

Jack Riley – So, according to you, surgeons qualify with a certification? Like auto mechanics, eh?

Give over! Surgery is done mostly with computers these days, some entirely by robots.

But you are wrong that gender has nothing to do with financial inequity. It does. It’s a fact.

You are slso wrong that my point is to deny it is valuable for women to stay home to raise children. Where did I ever say that? Oh, yeah, that’s right, nowhere and never.

Of course, it is valuable for some women to stay home and raise kids. But not for all. For those who don’t want to be forced into that lifestyle by bigots who think a vagina makes a woman want motherhood, it is wrong they are not compensated for equal work equally to what their male peers are paid.

You want all women, even those raped repeatedly as 20 year-olds, to be forced to bear children, never get an education, stay inside, have no society, and die young. Damn right I oppose that!

Joan Abernathy: <i>" Even if the surgeon took off ten years to be with her kids, her skills are just as good as the male surgeon who took no time, so why should she make 25% less?"</i>
Nonsense. The surgeons’ sex has nothing to do with it. Any surgeon’s skills, male or female, would NOT be as good as any surgeon, male or female, who took no time off. Skill comes with practice. After ten years out of practice any surgeon would need re-certification.

Joan Abernathy to Liza Rosie: <i>“Female surgeon works for ten years, takes ten years off, returns to work and makes 25% less than a male surgeon who has worked for five years. Get it.”</i>
Once again, sex is irrelevant. If your scenario is plausible, then so is this: Male surgeon works for ten years, takes ten years off, returns to work and makes 25% less than a female surgeon who has worked for 5 years. Get it.

Joan Abernathy to me: <i>"… in fact, there are different levels at which doctors bill, so a junior pathologist makes only $600,000 a year while a senior pathologist makes $850,000. But substitute engineer or teacher or any other job description and my point remains. "</i>
Assuming that were true it is irrelevant. But you’re just making it up as you go along, aren’t you? And what IS your point? Oh yeah, to deny the value and satisfaction inherent in choosing to stay home to raise children. And, to stoke unrealistic expectations, resentment and hostility among women who do or are considering doing so. In short, to push a sour, divisive radical feminist agenda.

Out of all these comments, no one’s touched on the biggest point in the podcast!
The Eastwood movie that Crowder’s producer referred to is Firefox.

Glenn Craig – What? You think I have no appeal to Jewish divorcees and heiresses?
commented 2015-05-24 23:43:56 -0400
Oh my I have to comment…ah women/mothers who work outside of the home….this is long….but I would like you all to hear my story….I am well educated, BSc honors was in a Master’s of Applied Math…left to work in high-tech in Ottawa. Loved my programming/database work…made lots of money and near the end was technical lead over team of programmers. But when I got married, hubby and I knew where we were headed, I would stay home with the kids. Our high-tech friends poo-pooped our house we bought…. “What no granite counter-tops?” " your house looks like a cottage". Of course it was a shock to stay home with screaming babies….almost shunned by society…but I survived…and no, I in no way shape or form going return to the dog-eat-dog world I was in. Obviously, there is so much more I can say….but hear this….the time has gone way too fast…I have 3 kids, youngest is 5….I look young but I am not….deepest, deepest regret is I did not start sooner having children…all the high tech high paying jobs and jimmy choo shoes will never make up for that. I listened to the feminist nonsense and I delayed, delayed, delayed….made money, goofed off…for what? I am so glad I let my children change me, made me soften my hard feminist heart, they are so precious…..I hope I made some sense, there is a lot left out.

Jack Riley – your rant is all to no avail because, no, that is not what I am saying. I used surgeon as an example and while you may be right in theory, in fact, there are different levels at which doctors bill, so a junior pathologist makes only $600,000 a year while a senior pathologist makes $850,000. But substitute engineer or teacher or any other job description and my point remains.

So now you go give yourself an aneurysm with a good stiff head shake.

Peter Netterville, what stats are you using to generalize to 96%?

Liza Rosie – 77 cents on the dollar is what Gavin says women choose to make. Didn’t you watch the video?

Liza Rosie – your math is wrong. Female surgeon works for ten years, takes ten years off, returns to work and makes 25% less than a male surgeon who has worked for five years. Get it?

Joan….something that is NEVER factored in to these “wage” comparisons is alimony and inheritance.

Integrity is sort of like diabetes…people who have it really can’t help it…it really isn’t good for you and it will probably shorten your life…..

If I didn’t have such a bad dose of it I could be on easy street just by moving to Miami and being a gigolo to Jewish divorcees and heiresses……:-)

If you tied a person down and poured hot coals on his head and liquid nitrogen on his feet “on average” he would be comfortable……:-)

I scored top of my class in statistics. Public policy should NEVER be based on them.

Joan Abernathy,
To use your vernacular, in Canada and the US there’s just no way a surgeon with a vagina would ever be paid a dime less than a surgeon with a penis for doing the same procedure. They both bill the province, the insurance company, or whomever, the going rate. However, if that female surgeon decides to do 23% fewer surgeries than her colleagues, so she can look after her kids (or for any other reason), guess what, she’s paid 23% less. Are you (and the rest of the rent seeking radical feminist “community”) suggesting that someone else be forced to pony-up that 23% to “equalize” things for her? I doubt you’d find many, if any, surgeons (male or female) going along with that nutty idea.

So, give your head a shake. That “77 cents on the dollar” meme is at best misleading, but most often it’s simply a lie told by radicals playing divisive, sexist politics.

Funny to hear the “angry feminist” rant.
Here’s what happens when the “angry feminists” wake up – they find a nerd guy of means to date, pitch marriage or force the hand of the guy by becoming magically pregnant (for those who aren’t so stressed out and angered that they physically still can get pregnant) and two years later, the kid gets to be part of the single parents world. Seen this quite a few times – they often come in the form of female lawyers (the ones that aren’t lesbian only).

What makes women stupid/laughable is the environment they subject themselves to and how they parrot what they see in movies and read in celebrity magazines and on instagram. No filtering whatsoever.

Using stats properly, yes Peter.

I really enjoyed listening to Gavin and Crowder talking about being Anglo in Quebec. It really is kind of twisted.
commented 2015-05-24 01:23:05 -0400
The reality is that if you reduce the exact same job for women as for men to an hourly rate, the percentage difference is 4%, 96% women, 100% men.

Statistics can be used to justify any agenda, but to use statistic properly the wage ratio is almost identical.

“77 cents on the dollar”, isn’t that Hillary’s math.

Joan said, " no female surgeon wants to make 25% less than her male colleagues just because she doesn’t have a penis and because most women stay home with young children. Even if the surgeon took off ten years to be with her kids, her skills are just as good as the male surgeon who took no time, so why should she make 25% less? " Simple answer, because she worked less hours. booked less time. was otherwise importantly occupied. The stats are skewed to make it look like women don’t make as much for the same job. It just isn’t so.

Gavin honey?

Anyways, men earn more because they are better than women!! ;)
commented 2015-05-23 23:41:06 -0400
Joan, sweetie, the 77% comes from not using all the data. If all the data is taken in to account the percentage is higher, around 96%. Though Gavin did not mention it in this video, he mentioned it in another video that when apples are compared to apples, the ration of women getting paid for the same job is almost equal.

So, in other words, the 77% is a false number. It is closer to 96%. Yes, still not quite equal, but much better than 77%.

Here’s a fact about Quebec you may find interesting. After French and English, the most commonly spoken language is Arabic. You know, as in Algerian immigrants.
commented 2015-05-23 21:58:08 -0400
Gavin, honey, no woman wants to make 77 cents on the dollar. Even given your qualification that there are exceptions to all your generalizations, no female surgeon wants to make 25% less than her male colleagues just because she doesn’t have a penis and because most women stay home with young children. Even if the surgeon took off ten years to be with her kids, her skills are just as good as the male surgeon who took no time, so why should she make 25% less?

Give your head a shake!

Gavin made a swine dive. I love it. A bacon belly flop. Listen. Crowder is right. The belly flop is far more entertaining than the politically correct synchronized swan dip.

I love Crowder’s commentary. Smart, funny. I hope we see more of him on therebel.media.

No one likes to be called “a fucking idiot”, Gavin. You know that. That’s why you did it. Because it’s provocative and it’s funny. So, keep it up, you bacon flopping boor!

English and Chinese are the only two languages that reflect sexual accusation hurled as a weapon in the same light as other languages express blasphemy or “swearing false oath”

The usual reason people have for doing this is verbal reinforcement for something else that was said that the speaker felt was equally outrageous and bold to utter…….
