CBC rebrands 'Q' as 'q'. How much did taxpayers pay for this ridiculous change?

Rebel Staff

The CBC has decided to further distance itself from Jian Ghomeshi by changing cases.

Ghomeshi formerly hosted the CBC Radio show 'Q'. Now, the show will relaunch on April 20 as 'q'.

Maybe it's only fitting because you'd have to be high to think this was a good idea.

The Star spoke to Queen’s University marketing professor Kenneth Wong who called the change 'ridiculous'.

“Speaking personally, I think it’s a ridiculous change... no one has shown me a way to communicate lower case on the radio,” he said.

While the CBC didn't say how much the change from upper-case to lower-case costs, here are some comparisons.

Last year when the LCBO designed a new logo, it cost $500,000.

The CBC also spent $400,000 to rebrand Radio-Canada as 'ici'. After being panned by critics and politicians, the state broadcaster backtracked.

SOUND OFF in the comments: How would you have rebranded 'Q'?

I wouldn’t, but I’d rebrand The Rebel as The Dickhead. And regarding the tax hysteria, it would cost us far less than what Sun News Network received in subsidization. Boy, that sure worked out well for those asswipes, eh?

When its assault it might make a difference. Punching your date in the head to get a hard on is assault. And if that happened along with the other allegations then it matters, because he’s probably going to jail.

My ‘take’ on this may be somewhat against the norm . I understand the difference between ‘innocent until proven guilty’ in the eyes of the law, and that grey area we call the ‘court of public opinion’. I am totally on the fence about Ghomeshi, and frankly, I don’t care about his sexual predilections.
However, I am extremely concerned about the ‘rush to judgment’ made possible by Twitter, and the hordes of twits. My concern more precisely is whether there is a separation between one’s professional life, and one’s private life. Should it matter to Ghomeshi’s career if he is somewhat sexually beyond the norm in his private life ? I personally do not think so, and am adamant about that. What bearing do his sexual preferences/perversions have on his ability to do his job to the best of his ability ? Absolutely none !!

The top news story today on CBC on line was the fact that at the Mike Duffy trial a witness who was a hired make-up artist testified that she was paid $300 to do both Mike Duffy and Stephen Harper for some event….so a deep ferreting was warranted to see if the taxpayer paid for it…..how much did the taxpayer pay today for makeup artists at the CBC?….How much each and every day?…..Goes to show haw thin the straws are at the Duffy trial that the CBC are grasping for …and….how the CBC assumes that they are more entitled than a senator to spend tax dollars on appearance and personal vanity when they present themselves to the public.

I suppose a “consultant” was hired for this important task. I imagine the “q” will now be pink to show solidarity with the QMF, Queer Militant Federation.

So with the “cut backs” at the CBC, a change to a lower case “q”, and a possible change in the colour of the letter to pink, I would say an even $100,000 of OUR money should cover it.

One more nail in the coffin for the CBC tome to sell it and send the savings back to us in cash
