The CFL is Politically Incorrect! Edmonton Eskimos not the only team with an "offensive" name

Jason & MattRebel Commentators

The Edmonton Eskimos are the 2015 Grey Cup champions but the team may lose its name due to its politically insensitive nature.

Matt Phillips welcomes Chief Activist Correspondent Parker Cullingsworth to chat about the rest of the politically incorrect team names in the CFL!

The NDP budget is a disaster. 50,000 are out of work. Investment is fleeing the province.

. . . to which my son responded; “sweet”.

Now my number one son, who apparently is a “chip” off the old block, has observed that this is;
an interesting discussion amongst the “seasoned” commentators at The Rebel. All “eyes” seem to be on this “half-baked”, “wedge” issue . . .

The Ottawa Senators. No doubt calling the team the Senators is an insult to the talented athletes on Ottawa’s team. I’m offended at the lazy thinking that comes out of Ottawa.

Ezra; Take heed of Richard. Start a petition.

George,
Agreed. We need to make this a compulsory elective at all universities.

Richard;
Since you have now graciously pointed out to us that we have a systemic prejudice towards the citizens of France (vis a vis the FFP) it then behooves me to point out that we must nurture our privileged guilt and not forget to include the potato chip, though not exactly a visible minority, it is humble in stature, especially when compared to the more sophisticated and elitist scalloped potato. Of course, regarding all of this, our liberal mindset still insists that we should hold in contempt that insidious pretender; the instant potato.

George, and others
Let’s not forget the ultimate culturally insensitive attack of this tuber – the French fried potato. Oh my, I am I allowed to say this? From now on I will call it the ‘ffp’ words.

Charles; Whilst just eating the potato is certainly cultural appropriation, it doesn’t stop there. Consider mashing, roasting or even, heaven forbid, whipping the potato. The implied violence will undoubtedly cause triggering throughout the entire root vegetable community and possibly beyond. The world owes their undying gratitude to all of us on this thread for raising this awareness.

I am still offended by the name red blacks. It is an insult to imagination (the lack of). Maybe they should call them the Ottawa easy riders.

I am offended that in all this discussion about potatoes everyone is excluding the yellow skinned potatoes, which is offensive because it makes light of jaundice. Not only that, the potato was originally a crop of the advanced paleolithic cultures of North America; hence even by eating a potato is cultural appropriation. I remain offended that I am offended!!!!!

Peter;
Of course no one should ask them. We know what’s best for them.

Richard;
OMG. The horror. I must find a safe space.

Gary,
And did you notice that they segregate the white, brown and red potatoes in separate bags?
commented 2015-12-05 15:03:46 -0500
Has anybody even asked the redskin potatoes if they want to be associated with the Washington football team? Maybe they too would be offended!
commented 2015-12-05 15:02:56 -0500
It is offensive to me to allow people that say such stupid shit live in Canada.
commented 2015-12-05 14:24:40 -0500
Gary; Sorry, didn’t mean to trigger consternation in you. Very insensitive of me.
commented 2015-12-05 14:09:35 -0500
@george dyer. Don’t be disenfranchising potato skins – we need to be more inclusive. I just returned from the market and noticed white and brown skin potatoes too. What’s next, cabbage?

I am offended that Jason and Matt did not mention the Saskatchewan Roughriders. I know that they were really, really hard to find in the standings this year, but gee-whiz, to forget about them. Roughrider is offensive, sort of like my comment about the Pistons in Menzies’ article, towards the ultra-femmes because of its sexual connotation. Or, it may be offensive to PETA because it promotes the abuse of horses. Or it may be offensive to mechanics who would feel their work is slighted because the car still rides rough.

Yep…I’m offended that my Roughies were neglected…oops…Roughie is offensive because it promotes violence…that’s rough…oops…that’s offensive because…….

My only suggestion is for the Washington Redskins;
Keep the name, but change the logo to a potato.
commented 2015-12-05 13:31:36 -0500
I would also suggest that calling the Montreal Canadiens “Canadians” is highly offensive and must be stopped by force of law and summary executions without trial. The team logo is a C with an H in the middle. The H stands for les habitants , not hockey.
