Christian symbols are everywhere on Parliament Hill: If the Commons prayer is abolished, what's next?

Brian LilleyRebel Co-Founder

Some MPs are fighting to abolish the opening prayer in the House of Commons.

What's ironic is that the Parliament buildings themselves display all kinds of Christian symbols, including verses from the Bible.

I'll walk you through some of the many Christian symbols you'll find on Parliament Hill.

Then listen to the prayer Elizabeth May wants to abolish and tell me if you find it offensive.

This was a good story on our Parliament building in Ottawa by Brian Lilley. Solid proof of Canada basically being a Christian country, even though muslims say they were the ones who disovered America. Liars and idiots.
It’s a wonder when muslims enter parliament that their hair doesn’t burst into flames. Same with the atheists.

Thank you Brian, you raise very good points on this issue. This is an angle we could NEVER see covered by our national broadcaster. Having never seen the Parliament buildings, I was not aware of the amount of Christian iconography and scripture incorporated into the various facades.
I believe that we are well into our slide down the slippery slope that can only end with workmen taking chisels to the walls of Parliament. Now that Canada no longer holds its founding faith in any reverence, we will eventually be forced by the Supreme Court to bend to the will of humanists and remove all references to Christian tradition in government. Our history will need to take a back seat to atheists or others who feel excluded when they hear a public prayer or walk by a Bible verse displayed in a government building. It’s not over yet, folks.

Nathan, it’s “Apocrypha” and it is part of the Catholic Bible. Catholics make up 1.2 billion out of the 2.2 billion total estimated Christians in the world, so technically speaking, the Christian who believe the Apocrypha is meant to be part of the Bible out number those that do not.

Just sayin’ :)

Hey Brian and Rebel Staff, The books of Maccabees are not in most Bibles – they are part of the Aprographa – the books we consider written between the book of Malachi and the book of Matthew which are not inspired by the Holy Spirit. Just thought I’d point this out! ;)

William Murrell, just loved your comment. Shut down all the benefits that comes with being a christian country. I recently watched an interview where a high ranking supporter of Islamic protests stated that " Islam and Democracy cannot co-exist". I thought to myself, " let’s give this guy “no democracy”. Pick him up, throw him in jail, and forget he even exists".
We can give the protesters and the Elizabeth Mays of the world " no christianity and no democracy" if that’s what they want.
They’ll be very sorry when they realize they can’t have everything they want.

Well, we would have to take the “no apologies” approach, and I too would rather that than multiculturalism. That would solve my dilemma … do not allow anyone to change our culture, but politely accept other cultures into ours, but they change to our culture, not the us to theirs, not the multicultural way. Multiculturalism was Pierre Idiot Trudeau concept anyway and I despised that man. Being born in Alberta, I guess that comes as no surprise. :)

Tolerant of others but steadfast in promoting our Judeo- Christian ethics FIRST, and FOREMOST, ahead of and before that of others. And yes, " no apologies".
They are what this country was built upon. (can’t change that fact). It is what our fathers and grandfathers have gone to war to defend. It is going to take a lot more than comrade May to upset that cart.

William….you’ve made your case well. And that is why I want this country to remain a Christian country. True to our history, tolerant of others and welcoming. Multiculturalism be dammed. No apologies.

What bothers me the most is that people like May wish to impose their rule on the majority and in doing so show great disrespect to Canada’s past and present. The future is ours to ruin.

And shutdown immigration and human rights courts, since they were also started by Christians. No more immigration. No more fake human rights cases.

How would one take all the crosses off the parliament building there are hundreds of them on top made of stone?
commented 2015-04-25 12:39:05 -0400
If we have to do this, we might as well throw out democracy and Common law and ‘innocent until proven guilty’, which comes from the Bible, and ‘sea to shining sea’. Then we must shutdown all hospitals, food banks, homeless shelters, the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Thrift stores, since they are based on the Bible. We also should shutdown doctors without borders and stop sending doctors overseas to take care of poor sick children (since it was only Christians who do this). We also will stop sending money overseas through christian organizations. We should also stop refugees from coming into Canada, since that was also started by Christians and to this day, almost all refugees come through a christian church to get into Canada (Canada has double the refugee rate of any nation in the world).

Anonymous – " . . . we either have to separate church and state completely, or declare we are based on one religion."

There is definitely truth to this statement. I am one who would like to see a separation of church from state, though because Christianity is embedded into the fabric of our society, this would be impossible without also dismantling our entire society.

My reasons for wanting a complete separation is entangled with our assertion that our society is a tolerant multicultural society. To be truly multicultural we will have to allow the embedding of other religions into the fabric of our society since we also have Christianity as an integral part of our society. I would rather none be part of the government than all.

If my concepts here are off, please post your counter argument.

Bottomline: If we are to shed the Islam radicalization from future influence in our country or the western world, we either have to separate church and state completely, or declare we are based on one religion. Muslim nations have done this and continue to do so, thus entrenching their constitutions with sharia law. The west are dismantling their constitutions through supreme courts rulings, eventually, for them to survive they are going to have to make a hard choice, turn their backs on christian beliefs or revert to christian values. Just look what took place in Quebec when they tried to start that process, every religion stood shoulder to shoulder, muslims and christians hated it, but i believe muslims were the winners. The supreme court made a short sighted decision on prayer, the long term ramifications to Canada will rear its ugly head as we march forward.

Brian, invoking all the Christian symbols in stone won’t defend us unless we aggressively fight radical Islam. As they have demonstrated, the Islamic State will burn Parliament first chance it gets to erase any sign of Christianity because Christianity forms the basis of democracy, diversity, equity, pluralism, free trade, capitalism, human rights, freedom, and love – not hate – of neighbour.

The current Islamic State is only one among many aspiring to global Caliphate domination under which all Jews, apostates, homosexuals and atheists would be murdered, all Christians forced to convert and assume an oppressed social status, and all other faiths forced into slavery.

Let’s keep Canada strong and free. We can’t wait for Elizabeth May to change her spots or for Libersls or progressives to stand up for democracy. We must take the lead.

Glenn Craig – Sweden has a real problem with Islam, not with women whom Islam uses to further its take over of Christian countries. It is Islam, not women, that says men cannot stand to urinate.

There have been many times in my life when I felt excluded. That’s what defined my identity. I’m not the same as everyone else

You are doing a good job Brian, it makes me want to hold onto it even tighter. We need to be reminded not to take what we have for granted. Certain things should not be allowed to be taken away from us. I guess we aren’t used to having to fight for these things we take as a given, as always being there.

" However, the Christian church is by and large is asleep to the fact, not fully aware of this shift in the fabric of our society."
well said Peter N. and Carl, and everyone for that matter.

Very well said. It is important to know these facts.

We try to take God out of our lives until the time we call on him and then wonder why he is slow to answer. God is in the fabric of our society. He is in our history, in our buildings. If we reject Him our society will fall.

For anyone who reads the Bible this venomous movement pushed by some towards abolishing Christian symbols both physical and ritual from our society is not unexpected, unfortunate, but certainly not unexpected. However, the Christian church is by and large is asleep to the fact, not fully aware of this shift in the fabric of our society.

When the time comes for war to preserve our christian ways, whose side will the Liberals be on? I believe war will decide as the christians will defend themselves through a second crusade. The christians will win.

Elizabeth May is a prime example of why “proportional representation” saddles democratic systems with the agenda of the lunatic fringe. The “Leftist and Feminist Party” of Sweden started out with a polled majority…within weeks of it’s policy agenda being made public it’s support plummeted to two percent….but that was enough thanks to proportional representation…to have the 30% Man Tax and the edict that you cannot piss while standing up in the name of gender equality moved…seconded…and obliged to be debated in their parliament…. amid a storm of media support.

Fortunately, Elizabeth May’s Green Party……HASN’T GOT A PRAYER….of forming a government.

I find Elizabeth May offensive.
