Claim: NDP's carbon tax to cost rural Alberta families $50 million EVERY YEAR

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

The real cost of the Notley Carbon Tax on everything is starting to be calculated in real terms.

And it looks like its going to cost us big time, especially in rural Alberta.

The carbon tax is going to cost so much that the Federation of Alberta Gas Co-Ops sent a letter to the premier asking her to exempt natural gas utility service  used for heating homes, acreages and farms from the carbon tax.

The Federation, with 125,000 members, represents the province's natural gas distribution network and their customers.

They have calculated that the carbon tax will add an additional cost of $1.65 per gigajoule onto natural gas for their members. This means a tax grab from rural Alberta families totaling $50 million dollars annually.

Rural residents will end up paying about double the amount of carbon tax, on average, than people who live in cities and towns.

Natural gas is the main heating fuel for 91% of Alberta families. This rate is higher than any other province and it should be a good thing. Natural gas is clean burning and economical and it provides well paying jobs to Alberta families.

For the NDP this means 91% of Alberta families can be easily targeted for a quick tax grab.

Farmers have machine sheds, barns, pump houses, grain dryers and greenhouses. They use a lot of natural gas. When natural gas costs more, farming costs more.

When farming costs more, either food costs more or farmers get poorer.

The carbon tax will make both happen.

In the same way the NDP's farm unionization law, Bill 6, was an attack on the family farm, the carbon tax will do the same. It's increasing the cost of farming for some imaginary greater good. Something the urban based NDP either didn’t think about or just didn’t care about.

Family farms are just another casualty, collateral damage on the altar of the climate change.

Why isn’t there a single comment about the whole car an tax program which involves rebates to individuals and businesses that will be affected? The program is under development and won’t be introduced until 2017. The purpose of it is to give Alberta credibility elsewhere in the world so we can export our petrochemical products. Are you people capable of seeing a bigger picture?

If your stupid premier really wants a carbon tax, Albertans should band together and instead of a swear jar, make her install a CO2 jar. That way, every time she opens her mouth or exhales she has to put a dollar in it.

Everybody just bitches and bitches but nobody even wants to discuss a massive protest from all the Alberta people that have time on their hands to place posts but no time to show up in person to form a rally…. If only the unemployed people would show up it would be a successful rally. I can’t believe that nobody even wants to discuss the possibility of that.. Just pissing and moaning and whining… You all deserve what you let the government get away with.

“installed a outdoor wood boiler a few years ago. use wood off my farm tax that bitch.” Don’t give her any ideas. Wood is very high carbon ;)

We can’t believe anything the government says, and don’t believe a word in the MSM, they are the propaganda spreaders, and are in bed with our communist regime. They are conspiring against the people, and the people will need to respond. I suspect all hell will break loose once people realize her goal is to snuff out taxpayers, not assist them in any way.

As I understand it there is 38,000 unemployed Albertans in the oilfield industry that Rachel Notley was responsible for tearing down… but just don’t count on them… There’s way more people besides the unemployed that could make an effort to show up and make a change. That would make a very nice showing for the first days back to the legislative grounds. And you notice that I said days.. We should be prepared to put some time in because they count on us giving up very easily as the Canadian sheeple that we are
Come on people… get involved.. The problem is with us.. In the past as Canadians we all thought that somebody else was going to do it and we didn’t have to show up for anything and we could just read about our success in the newspapers… Those days are over… Get involved or lose our province as we know it.

The legislative assembly is due to get back together for the spring session… it would be nice to see many concerned Albertans to show up at the legislative grounds in Edmonton making an effort in person and not just blowing off steam on these websites, but if 15,000 people or more showed up (more is better.. I like how it’s done in Italy and 150,000 show up) to make peaceful protest to our recently elected civil servant… If she was wise she would pay attention.. Now at events like this people meet people… Other strategies could be planned and we would start getting organized.. If nothing else we would be considered the official opposition to her majority party.

OK Ezra, when will Shiela get her own byline? She has shown she can handle it!

$3 billion a year removed out of the Alberta economy… I’m not sure if we can survive this..
Or her for that matter.

Somebody hammer one of those stop the carbon tax signs into Notley’s lawn.
commented 2016-02-02 02:24:18 -0500
You bet.. But how..??
Any idea’s how to bring enough people together to make a difference..?
commented 2016-02-02 01:00:02 -0500
Johnny Cool – I totally agree with your assertion – however – we are dealing with despot, tyrannical lunatics who have never had to work much for their existence. It’s time to show them what work is. They “think” they have force – but- it is us the people who have the force – CUT THEM OFF!!!
Let’s get this together people.
commented 2016-02-02 00:59:06 -0500
Agreed… Maybe we should all just meet downtown for lunch on the legislative grounds in Edmonton.

If there are plans to force a carbon tax onto Albertans there had better be some scientific evidence provided and debated by all residents of Alberta including the oil corporations in the oil sands, that proves, beyond a reasonable doubt, that humans are responsible for climate change caused by CO2 emissions. So far, I have personally not seen this debated in person and no opportunity for a reasonable discussion being held on it to date, other than the very questionable and unsupported data perpetrated on us in previous years . One also has to consider that all our vegitation that we now have also uses CO2 in order to grow and we don’t want to upset the balance of Mother Earth to reduce it to the extent that nothing will grow it CO2 is reduced to that level. How would we all like to live in a world without our ability to produce anything to eat ?
commented 2016-02-02 00:18:53 -0500
People – it is time we all protest by not paying the hand which oppresses us!! Be creative and bold. These tyrannical idiots have no idea of what shit they bring upon themselves. WE know they depend on our “taxes” – well lets cut that real short and see how long they exist.
It’s time for a revolution!!!

Let us be clear here – this $50 million is for rural residents. The total cost to all Alberta residents and industry will be much, much more and further cripple the economy. The NDP and liberal left end-game is to destroy the industrial economy and re-build the country into a socialist paradise. Ask a Russian how that worked for them!
commented 2016-02-01 23:40:26 -0500
Socialists always want to destroy independant minded people likeus in the rural west we do not rely on any but ourselves and our neighbours. That does not fit the socialist plan so we will be attacked like we are morally, finacially and economically. Destroy our schools and parents right to raise our childen, destroy our ability to pay our own way with taxes and phony energy schemes and economically by destroying our industries oil agriculture mining and forestry.

“the right to exist”
commented 2016-02-01 22:24:17 -0500
PEOPLE..!!!!! We only have to organize…
The rest will fall into place by itself..!!
commented 2016-02-01 22:14:26 -0500
Great posts from everybody…!!! What we need to do is organize people in this province into a three day strike provincewide to get her attention.. It worked in Poland Way back in the day when the term solidarity was used to describe their effort..
All the coal miners stuck together as well as the rest of the population to provide them support and they won..!
commented 2016-02-01 22:07:20 -0500
This Nutley bitch is trying to set Alberta back 75 years. Rural people wouldn’t hesitate to go back to coal furnaces and wood stoves if gas gets too costly. That would really put her climate CO2 scam into a new perspective.
commented 2016-02-01 21:53:23 -0500
This is out and out Fraud Marxist Robbery! This Notley NDP Government should be arrested!

Socialists have convinced the city people that businesses are all wealthy greedy monsters who make huge profits and mistreat there poor slave like workers. Being rich and creating wealth is a sin to the eco church. We have been losing this fight in canada since pearson and tommy douglas. Time to stop letting our selves be villified for being wealthmakers and stand up for capitilism and liberty.

It takes a special kind of stupid to still support this Premier after all she has done to Alberta.

Alberta and Canada would be better off if Notley lost the ability to inhale.
commented 2016-02-01 19:45:26 -0500
Why aren’t we all in the street protesting in the legislature and in every riding, instead look how easy nutley devastated the oil and gas and coal, and all these guys are taking it like stupid Canadians always do. Shame on us all for letting her do whatever to us. As hole trudoop will be here in Alberta this week and he should never be allowed to come into this province. But the traitorous left-winged ctv, global and dippers cbc msm will just repeat what this useless so-called pm says and will say and spew his garbage on the news without even asking one pertinent question. Man, are we dumb and dumber idiots for taking all this and letting them.

Why is this tax not called a CO2 tax;
which is a tax on a clean, colorless, odorless, plant-food, a necessity for all life on earth which is currently at 3X below it’s optimum and historic level in the atmosphere?

What’s next, the Oxygen Tax? The U.N. will find some reason to call oxygen a pollutant, and weak-ass PC socialist governments will cheer another tax grab for another imaginary greater good at the altar of Idiocy.

Nice shirt Sheila! :)
