The simplest way to avoid a backlash might be to stop attacking people in the name of Islam.
Muslims do great violence to a large number of people and damage to massive amounts of property if someone insults their religion.
Yet when one of their own "hijacks their entire religion" and makes it look truly awful by bombing, stabbing, shooting and otherwise attacking non-Muslims, there seems to be no reaction beyond a few denials. But certainly no riots.
One may wish to analyze the meaning of the word, "married" before accepting that headline.
