Dear Jesse Brown: How was Canada built by immigrants -- if it's systemically racist?

Joshua LiebleinRebel Blogger

Canadaland podcaster Jesse Brown is having trouble facing up to the fact that the niqab backlash is an actual thing and not simply some Conservative distraction.

This kind of thing happens every time one of these backlashes happens, and whenever I try to get him to see the other side of these things, it doesn’t usually go very well. Let’s see if this time will be any different.

Jesse and his pals seem to think Canada was this beacon of tolerance before Stephen Harper brought in an Australian pollster who waved a magic wand and whipped up a completely false and misleading anti-niqab hysteria that didn’t exist before and destroyed everything.

Here’s a question Jesse should ponder: How many backlashes against immigrants do we have to have before we take a good hard look at the “Canada is a welcoming country” meme and decide whether that’s just a bunch of feel-good nonsense?

Pale-skinned progressives can talk about Japanese internment camps or residential schools, the Komagata Maru or the antipathy towards “Eye-talians” in Orange Ontario all they want, but somehow these things don’t figure within their vision of Canada.

It’s especially weird because their of-colour friends never stop pointing out exactly how racist Canada is, and yet when something like the niqab debate happens they act as though it’s never happened before.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result. Hand-wringing about evil Conservative dog-whistle campaigns may be great for electing progressives, and if that’s what you’re trying to achieve instead of actually stopping racism, well, good on ya, but I was under the impression that left-wingers were mad about racism because they wanted it to end.

And hey -- getting rid of racism would keep Conservatives out of office forever, wouldn’t it? I guess it would have to, seeing as how the only people who apparently vote for the party are a bunch of weird old racist uncles at the Thanksgiving dinner table. Eliminate that and what have the CPC got left? More to the point, what would the progressives have left to talk about?

Well, they would have guys like me who aren’t “old stock Canadians” but still lean right, which usually makes progressives say something like, “Josh, don’t you know that at one point you would have been targeted because of your religion?”

As it happens, I actually have been called a “stupid greedy Jew” in a university newspaper back in 2003 by a bunch of white kids who considered themselves to be progressives. When it happened, the Official Jews stepped in to administer collective punishment, pulled all copies of the newspaper, and then went to the donors to tell them what a great job they were doing “fighting anti-Semitism on campus” and wouldn’t the donors please give them more money.

There’s no doubt in my mind that if the kids editing that newspaper didn’t have a negative opinion of Jews before, they sure did after the fact. But who cares what I think? My job was to lie down on the floor and cry about being “othered” and how it was a “hate crime” and how I could never again see Canada as a welcoming country. I didn’t do that, but lots of other young Jews have been conditioned to, so it’s their stories that get told because that’s what brings in the donations.

The fact is, if new and old Canadians got along despite their differences and learned to accommodate to one another, community leaders, journalists, and progressive politicians might outlive their usefulness…

Jessie wears partisan colors and spins a narrative like every other corporate media whore – his problem is he is even more sensitive than they are to having falibilities in his conformist narrative exposed.

His focus is on the actual media – that is what he does for a living. Jesse doesn’t owe a thing to internet dipshits with an opinion. Should he respond to YouTube commenters too?

No Jimmy, he is not required to respond, but it does reinforce what we’ve been saying about the Media Party acting like they’re above it all, dont you think? At least that’s what we’re going to tell people.

Twitter is different than an article. Why would anyone respond to Twitter jibber jabber if they are not following you?

And if Jesse doesn’t respond to this – it’s only because you are not a journalist of which is his focus. He is not required to respond to opinions from the general public.

We shall see though…

Jimmy, have a look at my Twitter. I would LOVE for Jesse to engage my stuff. He just won’t.

I assume you want a response right? I would hope you don’t just call people out and hope they don’t notice.

Well then Jimmy, I certainly hope he doesn’t disappoint you!

Because I forwarded your article to him, so he may feel compelled to defend himself.

Now why would he do that, Jimmy? We are a bunch of irrelevant, attention seeking nobodies and tar sand shills on Ezra’s Wacky Sun News Version 2.0 Website. I think you said something along those lines? Maybe not exactly that.

I look forward to Jesse Brown hopefully responding to this.
