Don't knock the "geeks": Enthusiastic, creative, thoughtful pop culture fans make the world a better place

Gavin McInnesRebel Commentator

A new study that claims fans of 1980s heavy metal music are happier than everyone else.

(MATURE LANGUAGE WARNING:)

This study is dubious for a few reasons, but having said that, I believe that fans of anything, in general, are happier than average.

They're enthusiastic and creative. If they in turn become successful, they tend to treat their own fans with respect.

Pop culture gets a bad rap from conservatives, but Andrew Breitbart reminded us that "politics is downstream from the culture." The music and movies we make matter, and they're made by fans.

To be fair, not all metalheads are “happy”, but just content with the way their lives are going. I’m in a small metal band myself, and I can tell you that our fans are happy because they choose to be with their lives. Us musicians just give them another facet of entertainment. As long as you can find happiness in something, you’re on the right track. After all, happiness is only a state of mind.

Now Vlad, I’ve played the same stage as Dayglo Abortions, and they’re a bunch of alright guys. I’ve chilled with them after the show, and they’re pretty down to earth. Blind Mark is hilarious once he gets to know you.

Because of this – (MATURE LANGUAGE WARNING:) – which I seriously appreciate, I won’t be watching your video. Thank you for playing fair. However, MATURE? mmNo. IMMATURE? Yes. Or, “BASE” even. But, not “MATURE”. (See my comments from Gavin’s last article.) Keep up the good work, Gavin. We’re making progress.
