You know our big billboard, saying “FireWynne” — right across from Ontario premier Kathleen Wynne’s office? Well, I’ll show you the letter we got about it yesterday, from Elections Ontario.
The letter doesn’t actually say we’re doing anything wrong. Of course not — it’s (still) legal to criticize Wynne in Ontario.
I’m guessing this compliance investigation officer was ordered to send this letter, to try to scare us off and get the premier’s office off her back.
But let me read you one sentence:
“If you are planning on advertising during a general election or by-election period for the purpose of promoting or opposing the election of a registered party or candidate, then your organization must register with Elections Ontario.”
Which is true, but there won’t be an election for years.
But did they say a by-election? Are they suggesting one might be happening in Wynne’s riding…?
Anyhow, we’ve clearly got Wynne’s attention with this billboard, and she hates it. If you want to help us keep this billboard going, and spread more around, please visit FireWynne.ca and chip in! Thanks in advance.
