Energy East: Notley shouldn't let Quebec hold Alberta's oil ransom

Brian LilleyRebel Co-Founder

It's an open secret in Canada that Quebec has been on the equalization dole since the program was created, heavily relying on oil-rich Alberta to help support their overly generous social programs.

Now, Premier Couillard is demanding even more from Alberta in exchange for his support for the Energy East pipeline but he'd only be hurting Quebec if he tried to block development or access to markets. Instead of taking Couillard's hectoring and accepting his feigned environmental concerns, Premier Notley should stand up for Albertans.

The number one problem goes back decades. As soon as PUBLIC servants figured how to become SELF servants all rational thought fell to the wayside. The first order of business for all political candidates should be to actually read our constitution and understand the difference between federal and provincial jurisdiction. Better yet, maybe the amounts each province receives in equalization payments should be posted on facebook or youtube so at least the uninformed will have a clue about where their free sh** comes from.

Peter LeBlanc, first Quebec has to acknowledge that it is Alberta that is providing their 12 Billion/year. I am not sure they have the humility within themselves to admit that.

Once Alberta has become “have not”. from whom will Queerbeek receive their welfare?

Quebec has been run by clowns forever . . . and some Canadians are entertaining a PM from Quebec?
Albertans obviously didn’t pay attention to the 12 years of h*ll their neighbors in BC went through with the Socialists in the 90s . . . lasted till 2002. Today BC is the biggest job creator in Canada.
Today the insane Unions are running non-stop ads criticizing the Feds, these are the same fools that supported the Ontario Libs in the last provincial election . . . they want ALL of Canada to look like Ontario? That is way past nuts ! ! !

Well guess what? You tools out in Alberta elected these people and their party. Now you will suffer like Ontario did under their rule. You guys had history to learn from. But OH NO! That happened in Ontario and hated Toronto is in Ontario so they have nothing to teach us. So go ahead and bitch and moan about how the NDP is destroying your provincial economy. You could have learned a valuable lesson from ruined Ontario but didn’t. Well my friends, you will learn it now. And there is a second lesson to be learned from Ontario; if you want to complete the job of destruction the NDP has started, elect a Liberal government to follow up. Let’s hope the rest of Canada is watching and remembers the performance of these two socialist parties on election day.

I was born in the East, and married a Frenchman. I have now lived many more years in the West than my province of birth, and I am as disgusted as you are Robert.

day by day i hate quebec and toronto more and more. political unfairness, equalization[welfare], and now you say no to a canadian pipeline. you make me sick. drain the west of every penny we make and then stop a canadian project. either you slime leave this country or let the west separate instead. long over due. i give you 6 months before you turn into another greece without our hard earned money.

“Counting the days like a prison sentence”

Apt, because that is exactly what it is. The only ones that will profit from the unholy government is the public sector. Notley will probably do just like Wynne has done and pander to the public sector so she can get voted in again. At the very least, the public sector will be virtually unaffected by companies leaving, private sector jobs being lost. Though they will be affected by the carbon tax which will raise everybody’s cost of living.

3 years, 9 months and 10 days to go. Counting the days like a prison sentence

if Alberta isn’t in the position to send tfr. payments, then the ONLY way kweewbeck gets their “share” is by these kind of retarded deals.

Lefties all live in a make believe world that all social programs get their funding from that magical source of money that is generated by the money pixies. The lefties have no concept of reality when it comes to how revenue is generated. " the budget will balance itself" , JT….

Randy — as much as I agree with your sentiment, Alberta has no recall legislation… which means we’re stuck with this lousy government (if you can call it that — it may turn out to be more of a dictatorship, but who knows?). As a province, we can wish for some out-to-lunch, crazed nutbar to decide to take things into his/her/its hands and maybe make an assassination attempt… but that would still leave us with “the party”. Nah, we’re stuck with this until the next provincial election. Then we’ll get somebody much better!

Never going to happen Brian. It has become plan to me that everything she is doing and done has a bad effect on the oil and gas industry in Alberta. This will not stop, unless that is, the Albertans demand a recall. But I don’t think you have that right there. I might be wrong but I don’t think I am. Just like here in Ontario, you were sold a bill of goods that are quite frankly worthless. Watch out the best is yet to come!!!!!

quebec cancers, the demarais and dussault families, financed out of Paris for decades, have burrowed their way into Alberta – these animals and their families have caused more trouble and lost productivity in Canada than any party or politician in Canadian history.

liberal and progressive conservative PMs have been demarais and dussault lap dogs including troodo, crotchien and mulroney (parties don’t matter when you control it all)

Go to H*LL demarais. Go to H*LL dussault.

Well said Brian. Nutty Notley has no backbone & is acting like a little puppet. Couillard says to Notley…….jump, Premier Notley…….& she says……….how high Premier Couillard ???

Now the woman with the Che Gueverra wrist watch will claim it is not her Gov’t preventing Alberta crude from leaving the province, but Quebec!
commented 2015-07-15 23:07:34 -0400
But you know, the rest of Canada has always stuck their nose in Alberta’s business and told us what to do, so Couillard doing so now really is no different.

Michael – don’t forget that activist hot bed, the SCOC!

Well said Brian! Quebec has no say, no veto and no constitutional power in this matter. Notley should smile and nod and Couillard should just keep quiet while TransCanada runs the pipeline through under the authority of the Federal Government. Most of these Premiers need to be replaced with people who understand the Constitution and have some common sense. Other than PM Harper this Country is being run by socialist fools (both at the Civic and Provincial levels).

Good stuff Brian. Facts are facts. Why don’t more people “get it”. Here in Ottawa people seem to be more interested in their summer festivals. Festival after festival. Anyone reading the real news? I do not think so.

You tell her, Brian!! Woot! Woot!

I hope she listens, though I doubt it. She is a lot like Wynne. She is going to do whatever the heck she wants because she has the majority and the superiority attitude that she is better than us evil oil hungry Albertans, she is determined she is going to straighten out this evil oil province and put us on the “righteous” path, the path of socialism.
