REWIND: Ezra Levant's interview with Rob Ford in May 2015

Rebel Staff

I sat down with former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford to talk about everything from the Alberta election to his health and his plans for the future -- which may include a run for office.

I ask him about his critics, who he describes as people who are "all talk and no action."

He outlined his accomplishments as mayor, saying that the new mayor John Tory has "squandered all the money I saved" Torontonians.

He also talked about his fight against cancer -- and an upcoming 10 hour operation this Monday.

I joke that Ford was "Toronto's first black mayor" because the city's various ethnic groups expressed an almost tribal loyalty towards him -- a guy who "is so white he's pink."

Ford tries to explain his rapport with new Canadians, which he says goes back to his childhood.

You won't want to miss this candid, wide ranging conversation. We talk about the Alberta election, the upcoming federal vote and so much more.

(And yes: He still returns all his phone calls...)

He would have beat Tory hands down. Such a shame he didn’t get to run again. I was really rooting for him. I wish we could have seen that.

I have no doubt that it’s the Progressive-Sodomites, and their allies among the Liberals, drove him to his end.

And now they send in tributes, write messages in chalk, and say the nicest things about Rob Ford. This the true face of Progressive-Sodomites: they murder and then lie about it.

It is a very say day indeed. Rob Ford was the best Mayor Toronto has ever had.
He will be sadly missed. At least we don’t have to worry about the Toronto Star…Liberals staulking / harassing him anymore.
Thank you for all you did for Toronto Mr. Ford…including making Toronto the “Best” City in the world.

Bill Elder – Rob reminded me of Ralph too! They both loved the people and wanted to make changes to improve the average citizen’s lot in life. Both were successful, in my opinion!

A populist through and through -I can see how that would be like a daily nipple-twist to the smug TO leftist elites. They hated him because he had no elitist agenda, no connection to the upscale nattering class and put the people’s needs as a priority.

In many ways he was like Ralph Klein, and I really miss Ralph. I can imagine what people in TO felt when the plutocrat Rosedale snots and their yapping media lapdogs finally felled a genuine populist and installed another elitist puppet.

RIP Rob.

Lol no I’m not against gay marriage I have several friends that are gay and married and about to get married. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree who’s screwing up OUR blue marble

I guess I have to cut Ford a bit of slack. I mean, a city which presents the Maple Leafs as its excuse for an NHL team and pretends that this is comedy https://vimeo.com/ shouldn’t expect too much in a Mayor…left or right.

Adam, I don’t understand why people with opposing viewpoints That comes on this site always has to resort to name calling. I hate to inform you that according to most Canadians Toronto has always been a laughing stock, I’ve lived and worked in 5 provinces not counting Ontario ( which I have visited many times and liked it very much) and it’s been pretty much the consensus. As far as moving forward because of " progressive " thinking as the state of the world today? Unless you’re one of those Torontonians that really believe that you are the centre of the universe or living in a bubble, this world is looking more and more screwed up by the minute. But then you would probably blame Bush and Ford for that wouldn’t you.

Lefties are notorious for raising their voices to a shrill pitch and making personal attacks against those who may choose to express a different opinion. It’s all about the attempt to shut down debate. Facts do not even come into play with this methodology. For the Ford detractors….yes the man had some problems to be sure. Was he perfect? No. Show me someone who claims perfection and I will show you a liar. I left the GTA many years ago because of the leftist ambitions and the insane taxation supporting same. Some believe Mayor Ford did do some actual good during his term. That is their right and they deserve not to be personally attacked for it. I cannot personally say if he did or did not. However, my Christian beliefs do not negate my wishing Mayor Ford, or anyone else for that matter success in their future and recovery from illness or tribulations.

Adam, it’s obvious to me that you are the one who’s opinion based and that your defence is to attack. The Rebel backs up all their “comments”. It’s news to me that you actually believe calling people names, putting labels on them and trying to discredit them has anything to do with facts.

One more thing. What about the football team Ford sponsored, supplying uniforms for underprivileged kids? People busy knocking Ford should stop watching the CBC and reading the Star and follow the real news on Rebel.

How quickly they forget that just for starters, as soon as his power as Mayor was taken away, the councillors voted themselves a raise and so far as pet projects, thousands of dollars for the glorified sand box down at the lakeshore, to what purpose? Also, before Ford, every summer, smelly garbage strikes, during Ford end of all strikes.

I’d just like to say I wish Rob Ford the best of everything, future health and happiness. And I say to his detractors, Ford may have hurt only himself personally by some of his actions but unlike the Liberals, who affect everyone else with their poor policies and bad decisions, outrageous spending on pet projects instead of what’s good for the city. Too many leftist councillors and media acting like a bunch of hungry wild hyena’s biting at his backside every chance they could, initiated the circus in my opinion and are the ones who were an embarrassment, not Rob Ford. Had they focused more on the business of the day rather than blocking his initiatives, it would have been a truly rewarding effort for all.

Hey Adam and other Mayor Ford foes.
I see (very plainly) that you are another one of those Ford hating hypocrites who couldn’t recognize genuineness and integrity even if they tripped over it. It was the lynch mob left who drove Ford to drinking with all their badgering and pestering all because they are so dead set against conservation , thriftiness, and morality . Most of the get rid of Ford movement started after he refused to attend the pervert parades thus setting in motion the expected and common smear tactics from the group of effluent hole romancers and their supporters .
commented 2015-05-09 10:51:58 -0400
It’s amazing how effective Mayor Ford still is at riling up the lefty/liberal louts and trough-swine and degenerates in the GTA and how merely expressing good common sense and honesty, can get the collectivists and cultural Marxists’ panties so twisted in such a knot…
To all you hateful, ignorant, degenerate lefties who rant delusionally on this site, about the good Mayor Ford, or any other insane notions you may hallucinate in your commie indoctrination, Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha, ha ha ha ha ha…
Give ’m hell Mayor Ford!

I guess the thing that really depresses me about politics is the lengths to which some people – on both the left and right – will go to support what becomes the unsupportable. Yes, Ford brought some semblance of fiscal responsibility to city hall, and yes his “cut the bullshit” approach to things was a breath of fresh air – but that doesn’t change the fact that the man’s personal life (yes, I know he was addicted) had become an embarrassing never-ending cartoon and he stayed on well past his best – before date.

Adam Christie, you are a snob, “They may agree with him politically, but…”
