Al Rose;

Below is the text of an e-mail that I’ve just sent to Amanda Achtman, Community Organizer, Amanda@TheRebel.media
I hope it’s okay with you. If so, perhaps other commentators will also support your initiative.

Hi Amanda,
Thanks for making yourself available at TheRebel as our go-to contact person.
I’m piggy-backing on Al Rose’s comments/suggestions about improving your great website by featuring “…thumbs up and down and the ability to reply to someones comment in a reply drop down, much like yahoo, we don’t mean to hijack the comments but if one returns a comment …” we can so easily lose the thread of the discussion.
Thank you for reading this and we appreciate your consideration.
Yours in rebellion,
George

Also the ability to edit one’s post

GEORGE yes we did get a bit away from the content of the video, but this is why i asked The Rebel to put thumbs up and down and the ability to reply to someones comment in a reply drop down, much like yahoo, we don’t mean to hijack the comments but if one returns a comment this can happen.

TOM yes i can fully empathize with you, it’s been 30 odd years since i lost mine and believe it or not i still miss her so much, the bond between her and me was so strong i swear she could read my mind and me her’s.

A the risk of being rebuked by my fellow commentators, I’m going to try and bring this thread back a bit towards Tom Mulcair, mash-ups and satire.

Some time ago, on CBC, I caught Mulcair using his on-camera moment to chide our government for being antagonistic (or disrespectful) towards the Supreme Court of Canada. Within about twenty seconds of uttering that (practically in the same breath) he then went on to describe the Senate as a gang of un-elected dilatants who thwart the efforts of our democratically elected government. I almost wet myself.

My point is, that if I were a professional satirist, I would have been all over that like the OPP to a donut shop.

Without any faking, cropping or fancy editing, there is lots of stuff out there that practically writes itself.

Al wnen my Shepherd had to be put down, I couldn’t talk about her for 2 years .

TM fits here! not in Parliament… ;)

The thing that find most amusing, and curious, is the bazar things people will find to argue and debate about. That’s just my opinion. Do you care? Probably not…. you shouldn’t. I don’t.
commented 2015-03-28 14:00:04 -0400
PETER no, you are entitled to your opinion, and you should voice them everyone here has a right to their opinion and should not feel they cannot voice it

TOM German shepherds, yes, she is the reason i don’t eat meat, i had a beautiful one years ago, we were so close , she was human to me , we knew each other so well.
By extension i came to believe all animals have emotions and feeling and are just like us, but in an animal way of course.
To bad they don’t have a reply to a post, we could chat there ,

Well, it appears I am in the minority. Consider my criticism of these satires silenced.

I love animals my self . Flies and spiders not so much. They come around me they are goners. I have owned dozens of Parrots, German Shepards and cats . I also am a meat eater. I think animals should be treated and slaughtered humanly as possible.
commented 2015-03-28 13:43:40 -0400
TOM as an animal lover, it breaks my heart to see any animal shot or suffer, i am so silly i wont even kill a fly, and spiders i put on a piece of paper and put outside, i just cannot bring myself to kill anything,
I agree with you, it is my personal choice and i do not push my views or choices on others
commented 2015-03-28 13:39:00 -0400
Al I felt the same. I love guns but hate watching animals shot. That is just me and I recognize lots of people love hunting. I just didn’t watch Canada in the Rough. Why should I imposter my views on others. I hope Rebels keep a sense of humour, we need it.
commented 2015-03-28 13:37:21 -0400
EILEEN or it could be exactly what it is, just humor, some things in life are exactly as they seem and other things are not exactly as these seem and the trick is to know the difference.
I think it was pure humor with no intended hidden message we were suppose to figure out,
Perhaps the authors of the video could enlighten us
commented 2015-03-28 13:29:59 -0400
Ah, but many commenters might be misconstruing the message that the Rebel is making with these satirical videos. Perhaps the team is pointing out to viewers how easy it is to manipulate the message to suit a particular purpose; something that the mainstream media do most of the time. (Of course, without the assistance of Mulder and Scully)!
If one is media literate, one should be able to objectively analyze: the message, the intended audience, the messenger, the purpose, the “tricks of the trade” used in construction of the message, etc. Never accept any message at face value. Question, research, analyze….

As a vegetarian who doesn’t eat meat because i don’t believe in the killing of animals, i always found that hunting show on SNN offensive to me, i did not think that fit with the format of SNN
But i did not write in and complain, i just didn’t watch it, same here if one doesn’t like a little humor, don’t watch, while you might not like it others might.
A little humor in this “serious” world is welcome

Just as I am an opponent of censorship, I am a huge fan of satire, so long as it’s clever and directed towards people who have really earned it, and I do chuckle at some of those mash-ups.

I feel though that we should indeed be cautious about the image that we foster here. For example, I believe it would be a terrible shame if, over time, we sank to the level of This Hour Has 22 Minutes whose pathetic efforts at satirical humour makes a grown man like me want to puke.

I do wish for TheRebel to have a long and respected life without it providing a superficial reason for our opponents to upbraid us.
commented 2015-03-28 12:18:35 -0400
Tom, I don’t think I would go so far as to say I am attempting to censor them, just making a suggestion. I too thought it was funny & the same with the Justin mash-up. It is the “air” of the site I am concerned about. I guess we will have to agree to disagree.
commented 2015-03-28 11:56:34 -0400
Peter so you are trying to censor what the Rebel prints and shows. If you don’t like something move on. I thought it was funny.
commented 2015-03-28 11:51:38 -0400
Doug, well stated and nice word play “true-of-Trudeau”
commented 2015-03-28 11:47:09 -0400
Tom, I am far from being a Leftie. I just think that humour that makes fun of political opponents like this is in bad taste and lowers the overall quality of the site as a serious conservative political forum.

I applaud the creativity of the mash-ups and I might even find them funny, just not appropriate if the site is to maintain a more serious approach to political commentary.
commented 2015-03-28 11:21:21 -0400
Ezra did take some flak over his skit where he depicted a zonked-out dope-smoking Trudeau even though everything that he said was, true-of-Trudeau. There were also some posted dislikes over another recent video ‘mash-up’ of Trudeau. The piece largely consisted of videos of Justin – just being himself and shamelessly attempting to be everything, to everyone. That includes those whose religion always demands that concessions be made to accommodate their totalitarian ideology including its own backward system of law which they place above Canadian law.

Wherever they have succeeded, there simply is no freedom or democracy and considering the well-demonstrated danger of their totalitarianism, I can see why many of us would rather not use humour to raise public awareness of any politician who would pander to them for votes. In grim reality, it means selling-out loyal Canadians in the process and that is why no real Canadian should ever vote for Justin Trudeau.
commented 2015-03-28 11:03:03 -0400
Funny, I guess you Lefties have no sense of humour.
Wonder if this would work on cockroaches.
commented 2015-03-28 10:13:46 -0400
Look theRebel.Media as I suggested on the earlier Justin mash-up, these do NOT make theRebel.Media a credible site. I DO wish you would stop with these. I agree with Vincent and Bill on this.
commented 2015-03-28 09:56:27 -0400
I agree with Bill, that these items do not belong on The Rebel
commented 2015-03-28 09:20:59 -0400
I have to say again that items such as this do not belong on The Rebel and only detracts from the serious reporting it promises.
