Revelations about Oberlin College prove “liberalism cannot possibly live up to its billing”

This week, I read an article that actually made me feel sorry for social justice warriors.

You should read it too. Nathan Heller's portrait of discontented youth attending the ultra-liberal Oberlin College, which appeared in the New Yorker, lays bare a truth that every conservative knows and every progressive dedicates their lives to ignoring -- that liberalism cannot possibly live up to its billing.

These poor kids were raised to believe in ideals that couldn't ever be fully realized.

When they were told they had freedom of speech, of course they took that to mean that every single thought and feeling deserved recognition and validation.

When they were told that everyone was equal, of course they went on to identify as colours, letters, and elements on the periodic table and claimed persecution when people laughed.

When they saw governments intervene to save banks and legislate the social sphere, of course they went on to question why the government didn't solve every problem, as well as problems that didn't yet exist.

This is the bitter fruit that grows from the tree of liberalism.

And these kids are being forced to eat it.

We on the right deserve our share of the blame, but at least conservatives aren't leading the charge to throw ALL the doors open. Something, for them, is worth preserving, at least in word if not in deed. For now.

If absolutely nothing else, conservatives recognize that that full-steam-ahead progressivism is not going to make things better in the long run.

And here's where my sympathy for SJW's runs out.

Yes, they were written a cheque by Baby Boomer and Gen-X liberals that couldn't have ever been cashed.

The solution, however, is not to write your own bigger and more outrageous novelty cheque.

Whatever kind of revolution they are planning when they come of age -- if they ever get out of asylums like Oberlin, that is -- it's going to have the same fundamental design flaw as everything else that came before. Somebody's going to get left out.

And then we'll be right back where we started.

Which, ironically, is the silver lining in this very dark cloud.

The SJW's are going to do a ton of damage, but it's nothing humanity hasn't seen before.

Some of them, and some ex-liberals, are going to learn from their mistakes.

We're doomed to stumble around in circles -- but we're not doomed.

“We on the right deserve our share of the blame, but at least conservatives aren’t leading the charge to throw ALL the doors open.”

Well, if “small c” conservatives aren’t leading the charge, they sure as hell aren’t doing anything constructive to stop it. And the “large C” Conservatives are right in there with the socialists.

Right now in Canada, the decision to vote Conservative versus Liberal or NDP, is like making a choice between jumping into a volcano with or without a parachute.

That is why the vote should be raised to 25 after they start living in the real world and start judging people/groups for what they do, not what they say

Anger and hate appear to be the new happiness.

When the economy tanks big time like the hungry 30 s then all of these silly groups will disapear - like who will care , and any silly group carrying on then will just get the shit beat out of them
