Ezra Levant testifies: Rebel’s experience with Access to Information stonewalling “may be symptom of a larger problem”

Rebel Staff

Today I testified before Parliament's Standing Committee on the Access to Information Act, Privacy and Ethics.

I explained that, now that newsrooms are cutting back on staff, the ability journalists have to dig deeper into stories afforded by the Act is more vital than ever.

TheRebel.media, for example, has filed hundreds of ATI requests, not just to government departments but to NGOs and other institutions.

In that way, we've broken many stories the rest of the media ignored.

However, I talked about one particularly shocking example of what happened (or, didn't happen) when we filed a request about the questionnaire that Syrian refugees to Canada were reportedly answering.

You can read the story, and see the documents, at Stonewalling.ca

That was well stated. Unfortunately it probably fell on Liberal ears so the common sense factor is not there and there will probably be some Disney like pixie dust come into the mix and some imagined reason for saying you didn’t make sense come from them. I can see it happening. It’s been happening since the Trudeau dipshits campaigned and got in office on a huge lie. They can’t even recognize it as a lie. That tells you how much common sense the just don’t have.

Ezra, Wish you would go into politics and run for the opposition. I have seen you fighting for what is right. You would really give this crazies a run for their rip offs.

ALL liberals are the same. MY local liberal MP,Karen Ludwig is horrible. She banned me from commenting on her fb page. Because I was telling the truth. Liberals are a hate cult.

Total transparency, sunny ways, its “2015”. I guess if you asked the selphie King now, NO transparency, cloudy ways, its"2016"

Ever since Ezra survived the Alberta death squad tribunal over the Danish cartoons, and his days with Sun News TV, I have wanted to express my gratitude to Ezra for actually doing the dirty work and bringing the information we surely would not have gotten from any other source. Thank you ten fold Ezra and Rebel for your relentless service. For you trolling" lefty"hole dwellers with daggers sharpened, keep launching your feeble attacks. Your alternative would be to float over to the CBC, that unbiased bastion of neutrality that Your Holiness, Imam Turdo, is commanding at present.

Dump Justin Bin Trudeau and Sophie the overworked

Excellent job Ezra! Keep fighting for the hardworking-silent majority.

In three hundred days you will hear “At this point, what difference does it make?”.
commented 2016-05-13 09:14:25 -0400
Geez Ezra, I don’t know how you do it. And I’m surprised you were even invited. I wonder how that came about? That had to be one of the most hostile rooms in Canada (to you anyway) or am I reading too much into it?
Anyway – You truly are the REBEL COMMANDER.

Great testimony, Ezra. Transparency, indeed!

What is this secretive Liberal government so afraid of, that they won’t release this document, the contents of which are already largely known to tens of thousands of Syrians (because presumably they have been asked the questions in the document) who aren’t even Canadian citizens? And on grounds of national security! What is it that the Lib’s don’t want Canadians to see about the vetting process they are doing? What a farce it is? Some transparency!

It’s awesome that Ezra refers to this website as cranky.
commented 2016-05-13 01:37:07 -0400
300 day transparency – it only gets longer from this point onward, – of course only one news outlet in Canada is asking any pertinent questions these days, so perhaps it is a matter of re-learning the FOI process by those concerned.

I’ve had my thrill with Quebec’s Access to Information. Toothless lion that can only “recommend” with little power to force disclosure. Until you get the hearing, the information you needed is stale or of no use. You can also be told that there is no such information.

Maybe its changed, but don’t expect better from any Access to Info commission unless it has the power to compel, fine and jail offenders. Even so, it usually shows reverence to the government agency or organizations it has authority (ha ha) over.

Those who are stunned by “little man” Ezra Levant testifying in front of a Parliamentary Committee should not be surprised.

He is a good man, and he has important things to say.
commented 2016-05-13 00:31:10 -0400
Good job Ezra. Unfortunately this committee was probably put together as another political showpiece to try and convince the public that they are trying to do something about access to information on government’s actions. This government campaigned on openness and transparency but they have been the opposite. They are nothing but a bunch of hypocritical liars who will say anything to get elected,

Super presentation Ezra. Can’t believe you were invited to testify. So very important you have complete access to that info in order to give us the real news in full & not just what the left would have you report.
commented 2016-05-12 23:29:57 -0400
Ezra, you are one brave man! Thank you for all that you do, and for all that you’ve endured, trying to get the facts out to people, so that we would be informed. I too, think that it’s only the Rebel that is being denied information.
My boss was marveling at your ability to dig deep, and reveal what politicians, and their minions, don’t want the public to know.
commented 2016-05-12 21:57:06 -0400
Great job Ezra. Please keep up the good work and keep government accountable to the people they are supposed to represent.

Ezra..The Rebel –
I applaud you (and your reporters/staff) for going above and beyond in your reporting, or, is it that you all are still actually ‘reporting’ while others aren’t, they are simply script reading for the government. Many of the news stories The Rebel has broken are stories I never see on other news forums, this only serves to confirm to me that actual investigative journalism is a thing of the past – but The Rebel is not afraid to dig in and get dirty, it is not afraid to get the information for us, not afraid if it isn’t politically correct, if it doesn’t make the gov look shiny and/or pisses them off.
I cannot tell you how much I appreciate and RESPECT that! As a Canadian I am proud of you for speaking to this committee on our behalf, and thank you for bringing us the important news that CANADIANS WANT and NEED to hear!! GOOD JOB!

Now lets hope Trudeau squirms b.c whatever IS in there, we are not going to like if he’s trying this hard to hide it. Like the ole saying goes, if you have nothing to hide… why hide it? Sunny ways indeed. Keep digging, we desperately need something to topple this guy and dirty him in public.

Bravo Ezra.
The only part I wish you had completed was that when you mentioned Stephen Harper, you didn’t finish by saying that if Harper’s government had pulled this B.S., the liberal (Liberal?) media would have freaked out…it would have been the crime of the century. I believe that on a daily basis more Canadians are beginning to realize that our PM is a vacuous moron.
commented 2016-05-12 20:29:39 -0400
I’m really glad you had an opportunity to address these issues because if all we do is complain among ourselves nothing will ever change and runs the risk of setting a precedent for even greater infractions.

Ezra.. You are wasting your time, talent and passion as an alt/media reporter.Stand as an indi candidate, get into the house and peel back the layers of deception in this sick system.

Ezra…I heard the tremor in your voice…and I do suspect that the PMO considers you leftist (Liberal/NDP) enemy # 1.
Even from the Sun News days, Trudeau has hated you openly and, for good reasons, hates having his feet held to the fire…I’m sure there are miles of footage showing his spiteful behaviour to those who cannot agree with his political views…I hope you have good security protection, as, to this day, I feel that someone under his influence had something to do with closing the Sun news…and that he, and Notley are living in fear of every word you say…you are indeed a very brave man for whom many of us are so grateful…They had better not go too far in trying to silence you as you have an army of truth seekers who depend on you the truth, and who know the hatred of the left for your inquiring legal mind…Good on you for this testimony…well put and NECESSARY to keep on exposing the left’s determination to hide information from Canadian citizens who are also their employers. (even though they believe we are their subjects and they our rulers)
