Finance Minister Morneau “doesn’t know much about the economy;” predicts truck drivers will soon be obsolete

Brian LilleyRebel Co-Founder

In a recent speech, the Liberal Finance Minister, Bill Morneau said the government needs to focus on retraining because so many jobs will soon be obsolete. Specifically, he predicted that receptionists and truck drivers won’t be needed much longer.

No one expects to work at the same job for 30 years these days, but Morneau’s remarks about those two professions in particular just don’t withstand scrutiny.

I hope Morneau has expert economists around him, considering how little he sees to know about the subject.

Truck drivers are an essential part of the economy in China. Who else delivers products made in Asia to the retailers in North America. Thank Chretien and Trudeau for that trade deal. Yes Liberals are that stupid.

Al Peterson – both of my kids have a trade, because I never bought into to the lies that we don’t need jobs that use both of your hands. I went with my instincts, and encouraged to learn a trade, or if possible, more than one trade, if they could. I told them that when the economy collapses, due to our evil governments, that they could still make a living in the underground market.

There are a million trucks on the road daily delivering everything from fair trade coffee to WalMart chinese crap to Ikea furniture. Morneau’s grandchildren will be grey haired and we will still need truck drivers . What an elitist idiot. I’m sure the mild mannered Teamsters Union is going to allow his scenario to materialize. One or two serious accidents with self driving trucks with attendant court costs and awards and companies will rethink that idea. Railroads have virtual self contained roads with no other competing traffic yet they still have engineers and conductors on board. "

Go ahead and believe that if you like … but at the same time … what if you’re wrong and they do roll out in the next decade or so?

You’re more than welcome to pretend it won’t happen. I’m not a truck driver, I won’t end up in the unemployment line. Basic prudence suggests you hedge your bets. All those factory workers got caught off guard by economic disruption too, and now it’s too late for them.

So well said Al Peterson. How could we even exist without the trades? Morneau is too busy sucking dick to make any appropriate comment. LOSERS

DJBT and the rest

There is a great book called, Shop Class as Soul Craft. He makes the point of how the tall foreheads shut down shop classes since the digital revolution was supposed to make the trades obsolete. What actually happened is that all the digital jobs were outsourced to India and the Philippines etc since anyone with an internet connection could do them cheaper outside of North America. He has a great line to the effect that If you need a deck built or a car repaired the guy in China is not much help since he’s in China. The guy down the street is the one you need to call.

The trades are the only place where a good wage can be made but we’ve spent a generation telling kids that only nobodies work with their hands. So no surprise that the Millennials don’t want to actually work. They expect 100K right out of high school for shuffling paper behind a desk. Unfortunately Notley, Wynne, and Tater Tot have been working to destroy the only place in the economy where trades flourished.

Liberals and ndpees and stupid left-wingers and msm are so bloody stupid, these idiots don’t use any brain power at all, NO STANDARDS, NO MORALS, AND NO CONSCIENCE, JUST PURE STUPIDITY AND PURE EVIL. David White – you pointed out trudoop’s cabinet are just as braindead as he is. Good lord, look and listen to these idiots speak, nothing ever intelligent comes out of their mouths, and they are being paid huge amount of money for their traiteress ways. Unbelievable, unbearable. McCallum, McKenna, morneau, freeland, garneau (tHoughton he was so much smarter than to be on the liberal ticket) but he proved me wrong. Trudoop has no competition within his so-called cabinet, they are all cut from the same cloth.

Bill Morneau is just another uppity liberal elite who doesn’t value actual work. I bet he couldn’t or wouldn’t change a flat tire, replace his kitchen taps, or change a light fixture in his own home. Why he chooses to denigrate instead of helping tradespeople is beyond me.

There are commercial airlines which can fly without pilots but that hasn’t seemed to eliminate the pilot’s jobs.

Andrew – business is driven by bottom line profitability and eliminating liability – If I can ship my goods reliably and cheaper with robotic/AI logistics I’ll do it – The hold back in the logistics industry going automated is the tech driving robotics delivery is neither reliable nor cheaper and in Canada we have the added hazard of weather and distance affecting reliability. I think full logistics automation is further out than you believe – and then there is the union resistance.

Conventional logistics is with us for a while – if we go to cost savings with AI we could save the nation billions by replacing parliament with direct democracy systems – it’s doable now and would free up 30% of each tax dollar for pension or retraining

Bill Morneau has some impressive education and a background as an HR consultant and pension fund administrator – personally I think he has been gelded in this cabinet – I do not believe he is being allowed to let his better economic instincts affect a scripted economic agenda forced on him – this government has had its marching orders handed to it by the patrons who paid for its election.

Interesting timing. Budweiser just delivered a truckload of beer with a self-driving truck. It’s coming.

Take this as a warning. We still have perhaps a decade before the job losses start to mount, lots of time to go back to school and learn something different. You don’t need total replacement of the sector with automation before the workers start hurting – even a small decline will profoundly impact employment prospects. Don’t be like the factory workers that were similarly displaced by modernization over the last few decades.

I’M thinking here in Canada , political jobs may well become obsolete as they are nothing but lying, thieving, corrupt, manipulating, self serving , treasonous, glorified welfare recipients! Truck drivers we need, politicians, no longer!
commented 2016-10-25 10:19:46 -0400
The fact that this human imposter is the Finance Minister is truly sickening. The only way truckers will become obsolete is if this criminal government deems it so. They are going to attack transportation on all levels, and bring our country to its knees. Evil is as evil does! And this liberal government is pure evil. I look forward to when Jesus destroys them and their ilk.

I predict that the Lieberals and the NDPiggies will soon be obsolete!

I know! Helicopter drones delivering 65" flatscreen TVs directly to our homes. They will start out from somewhere in Mississauga and deliver to Iberville, Quebec. Right? Oh. Uh. No, it won’t work.

Morneau is from a government with its leader Baby Doc pontificating how “Budges balance themselves.”

Chrystia Freeland, before she jumped into the deep end of Canadian politics, was a follower of an economist who believed in 90% taxation.

We went from a $7.5 billion surplus in November 2015 to a $30+ billion deficit. Good financial management. A good chunk of that was given away to other nations or while ideas by UN groups. What about spending that money for Canadians? After all, we are the ones who will be paying the interest and principal back.

Where are all the benefits we were promised with deficit spending? Well, other than for paying off the CBC, keeping Bombardier on life support so it can give its investors dividends, and expanding government staff.

Its a government that is quickly becoming an entitled species entitled to its entitlements.

And we are the ones who pay.

You can fool 39% of the population all of the time, but you can’t fool all of the population all of the time.

Love to see the driverless trucks in the oil patch, on an ice road or in the mud. I hope Morneau is obsolete sooner rather than later.

30 years? LMFAO!!! How about 40-50 years? Except if you are some over paid, unionized gooberment lump – then it’s freedom 55 with a fat pension financed by high electricity prices (there’s no ROI in markets and business anymore – the big fat gooberment has taxed it all to death).

Morneau is sounding more like Stupid Trudeau every day.

I guess this is what happens when these two closet homosexuals sleep together too often.

Out of the closet Morneau – and tell your wife too.

Yeah i wanna see how this works?
Rebelation i would love to hear Pensons explanation for this as well. Actually any left wing fool want to elucidate on how this will work?
Actually on second thought , i think he means once they have killed all of us non elites they will not need to move things around i guess?

Good one Keith Barnes!! I guess they’re so sure Canadians are dumb enough to accept their climate environment crap that driverless trucks are already being truck driven to the dealerships.
Didn’t they predict they would be doing such a bang up job on the economy, all the while bashing Mr. Harper. So, what’s happened with that promise, oh I see, you can almost hear them say, oh that doesn’t count anymore, it was just a ploy, we were lying so we could get elected, so we could continue our lies. Typical left, bash & lie your way through it all no matter what as long as you win.
David White you have aptly described that lineup of moronic ministers. I’m so anxious for Doug Ford’s tell all book that is supposed to come out in Nov.

Trucking. He thinks trucking jobs will be phased out! Did he misspeak, or is this guy for real? We really are going back to the horse and buggy days, if these guys have their way?
This is our finance Minister? God help us.

I think it was a requirement for the job – I thinks the ministers have to be shorter than him anf have less hair as well – optics, always conscious of optics..

I think it was the early 80’s, after I left school I found out they’d dropped all the shop classes. When asked why, I was told “we won’t need those trades in the future”. Effing Lefty’s just never learn!! I swear they’re “incapable of learning”. And of course, Wynn is the same with her “picking winners” in the economy, all of whom fail. Lefty’s always see themselves as “cutting edge” and “futuristic” and “ahead of the curve” and of course, all the while trying to get back to caveman days to be “purists”. This kind of rampant contradicition is evidence of psychosis. They’re psychotic!!

Hey, where’s Pesnson? Hey Penson (is that a "pen"name?). Explain to us mere mortals how you Lefty’s intend to move product around? (oh this should be good!! lol)
