Indonesia is caning 60-year-old Christian women for violating sharia law while they spend our money.
Back in January, we detailed how Justin Trudeau gave $14.25 million to Indonesia to “strengthen infrastructure development” despite the fact it follows strict sharia law.
It was literally only a month after Trudeau's sizable donation to Indonesia on Canada's behalf that a woman was caned for being alone with a man she was not married to.
Now, a new story has emerged of a 60-year-old Christian woman being caned for the crime of selling alcohol.
According to the LA Times, Remita Sinaga, a Protestant, received 28 lashes from a rattan cane Tuesday.
She reportedly had a choice between jail or the caning punishment.
The head of Aceh’s Sharia Department, Syahrizal Abbas, said, “The woman voluntarily submitted to the punishment because she thought the alternative was worse: a jail time under the national law.”
“She didn’t want to spend time in prison because we’re all aware that prison conditions are bad and there’s little welfare there,” he added.
The sale of alcohol in small shops was banned by the Indonesian government in 2015.
