Former anti-oil activist now Alberta Environment Minister, blames Harper government for lack of pipelines

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

Shannon Phillips, Alberta's Environment minister blamed the Harper Government for pipelines not getting built.

Phillips said in a press release that "we have made very little progress in that direction under the former federal governments rules."

She said this in response to the federal Liberals changing the way the pipeline process is reviewed in this country, wherein the Liberals have actually increased the barriers to pipeline construction. Apparently Phillips thinks more onerous and more subjective rules will get more projects approved and we know that’s crazy talk.

Phillips is wrong all over the place. Let me explain.

Shannon said pipelines saw very little progress under the Harper Government. That’s remarkably untrue. The Conservatives oversaw the approval and final construction of the Enbridge Alberta Clipper pipeline from Hardisty Alberta to Superior Wisconsin, Kinder Morgan Loop from Hinton Alberta to Rearguard BC, the Enbridge Line 9 reversal from Westover Ontario to Montreal and the Transcanada Keystone from Hardisty Alberta to Cushing Oklahoma. The XL portion of that pipeline is still held up by the Obama Administration.

Ms. Phillips, pipelines are being built. The public doesn't hear about these pipelines because anti-oil activists aren't being paid to make noise and oppose them.

And about Shannon Phillips herself.

It's pretty rich that Phillips would scold the former federal government for lack of progress on export pipeline construction considering she has been such an integral part of the anti oil, anti Alberta movement for so long.

Shannon Phillips worked in the war room for BC NDP leader Adrian Dix during his 2013 election campaign. That campaign was focused like a laser beam on blocking pipelines from Alberta. He lost. Phillips also co-authored a book with Greenpeace activist, Mike Hudema. It was called “An Action a Day Keeps Global Capitalism Away” and it advocates just the kind of things anti-oil activists do to block major projects like pipelines. It was a how to manual to oppose Alberta.

Phillips can't blame Harper for not getting pipelines built. If she wants to see who is to blame, she needs to look in the mirror.

Good one Sheila!… And the picture heading up this item – four folded hand sycophants nodding behind Phillips – is also very appropriate… Reminds me of a duck pond behind the barn where every now and then a bubble slowly rises through the murky water and pops…. I dare say that’s about as often as an original idea surfaces among this bunch…

Wouldn’t it be easier to just list the things the evil Stephen Harper is not responsible for. I mean come on, evryone know Stephen Harper was responsible for the beubonic plague, the collapse of the Roman Empire, WWI, WWII, the Korean War, Vietnam, George Strumblebumblpuss being on HNIC, and the Ebola virus. Stephen Harper is responsible for the 1980’s famine that took place in Africa, he broke up the Beatles, and destroyed the fisheries in Atlantic Canada. He created a global economic crisis a few years ago and he is responsible for all of the homeless people in Toronto, Montreal, Regina, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Prince George, and Vancouver. He is also the reason that the retailer Target shut down in Canada. Did you know that Stephen Harper put mind control solution into the flu vaccine for the last 10 years. You bet he did! He used it on Justin Trudeau during the last election but fortunately it backfired because he is still waiting to get a reading on any thoughts coming from Trudeau’s brain. Harper was the cause for my sister’s dog Gus get run over by a car when we were kids. He made Gordie Howe get old and retire from Hockey.
You can see that it is just too hard to create a comprehensive list of all the things Stephen Harper is guilty of. How could you possibly list all of the stuff. On top of it all he is so secretive that no one ever really knows what he is up to. As an example, he was playing monopoly with his family the other night and he secretly took the income tax card out of the Chance deck. This guy really hats taxes!!! Can you believe it! Playing a trick like that on your own family. I have even heard that Stephen Harper refused to hug his own son when taking him to school. They have it on video. This guy is worse than Hitler. He ate bacon that touched maple syrup once with eggs! Where will this guy stop, no on knows! I even heard he lives in a house that uses natural gas and forced air to stay warm in the winter. My God! The insanity of this man!
You can see here that it is far easier to list what he is not responsible for. I guess to make it easy he is not responsible for the Liberal government in Ottawa and the NDP government in Alberta and the Wynne Liberal government in Ontario. That’s about it. But he is responsible for the American civil war, the drug cartel in Mexico, dirty bathrooms at the 7-11, Wayne Gretzky getting traded to the LA Kings, the Maple Leaf’s not winning a Stanley Cup in almost 50 years, Peter Mansbridge’s bald head, the downfall of blackberry …

I don’t believe anyone with half a brain their head would by this bullshit. It reminds me of that scene in the Monty Python movie, The Holly Grail, where Graham Chapman (King Arthur) chops off the Black Knight’s arm and assumes victory. But the Black Knight refuses acknowledge defeat. “But your arms cut off” says King Arthur. To which the Black Knight glances at his shoulder stump spurting blood and says calmly, “no it isn’t”. That was funny in the movie because it was such a blatant denial of the obvious. But in real life, it’s not so funny, particularly when the idiots in denial of the obvious are the ones running the show.

I keep seeing something ominous on comments pages on msm sites. The nep would have saved us all and now we should do it now like norway. I see a back door attempt by the feds and the ndp to tell us how capitilism failed us and we need to nationalize the oil industry. We must fight this socialist advance they think they have the narrative in place, and gerald butts is ready

Heh, that has to be the most conflicted hypocrisy I’ve seen yet – the only person who could offer such an obviously twisted hairball of vales and distorted logic is someone with no ideals at all.

Did Shannon Philips happen to fly to Paris?
Thanks rebel, without you guys these elitists would be running roughshod over us

Harper changed the NEB rules because we asked him to do something about the ridiculous review process.

1…On the Northern Gateway Pipeline, It was like we were holding wide open hearings without any rules.
This made Canada look like we were being played for spineless wimps.
The whole world is watching this! Canada is being held out as the last bastion of hope to fend off Big-Money Eco-bully radicalism. Now Trudeau is only too willing to accommodate them.
USA under Obama’s appeasement has succumbed to Big-Money Environmental corruption through the Democrat Party, hence the rejection of Keystone XL Pipeline, while ironically building 10 pipelines in the US meanwhile of their own.

2…We needed to get control of the review process by having some qualification structure to weed out the radical activist, frivolous and eccentric complainers.
Big Money Eco-Bully Manipulators clogged the Enviro-Review process with some 4,500 radical activist applicants (many fictitious names) from all over the world requesting to be heard. These tactics intended to jam, filibuster the system and delay the review process. Trudeau likes this and is reverting back to it.

3…That interference is hurting and costing us Canadian taxpayers and consumers who will be paying for this eco-radical nonsense in the form of higher energy bills and transportation fuel at the pump. All costs are transferred to the end user.

4…Trudeau’s ideology is so convoluted, he thinks by scamming us with carbon taxes it will impress and get the approval of foreign Eco Foundations which is a prerequisite in his mind for Canada to approve one of its own infrastructure projects.

5… Pipeline reviews should only deal with the Pipeline itself and not the Oil Sands issues they attempt to tie to Climate Change. The Oil Sands are an established separate fact that has existed with it’s own set of issues. The Big–Money-Eco intervention/opposition to it has existed for years which has established and propagated it’s own negative media theatre. They should not be able to piggy-back those onto the Pipeline enviro issues.

6.Trudeau’s ideology, tied in such a tight knot to environmentalism is running amok with the job of running our country. He is unable to make rational decisions as he can’t let go of the conflicting commitments in his own mind.

Alberta has never benefited from confederation and the West has never had to face such hostility from Ottawa.

Ironically his biggest buzzword is “Inclusiveness” yet he is the most “Divisive” PM in our history.

This is just an awful tactic being used by the liberals. It is one of the worst cases of dishonesty and blaming, even by liberal standards. Is anybody really stupid enough to believe this? Why can’t the liberals just flat out say they hate oil, and want to exclusively use green energy?

If the liberals can dump thousands of refugees into our country, then they can sure as hell help sell some Canadian oil.

This is what Alberta voted for. Oops, I just threw up in my mouth again.

Get ready for the soup kitchens and living on welfare Alberta – you chose these pigs to destroy your lifestyle.

There are days when you feel you could pick people at random off the street and get more honest and competent government that we have here in Alberta. I though Redford was bad, but this is a whole new category. The Alberta and Federal Environment Ministers appear to be in a contest as to whom can lie more skillfully during news conferences.

She’s right about that, although it won’t be any different now.

Steve, I don’t think that you are wrong at all. There is a push in this country to head towards communism. I will fight it all the way.

the Liberals will keep demonizing Mr. Harper because he was a major threat to the left and possibly still is. He did more for Canada than any other P.M in the last 50 years. And this is also the reason they are undoing everything he did. They are trying to erase him from everyone memory and from history. This is a dangerous road to go down. It is the start of dictatorship and a form of communism. I may be totally wrong ,but thats what I feel
