Geert Wilders and his Dutch Freedom Party (PVV) is leading in opinion polls in the Netherlands.
According to Express, the politician has promised a ban on the Koran in the country, comparing it to Hitler's Mein Kampf. He has also vowed to cease immigration from Islamic countries. In addition, he would outlaw the niqab, and close Islamic schools and mosques if elected PM.
Following in Britain's footsteps, he also says he would hold a referendum on remaining in the EU.
“I... don't have a problem with people from Slovakia and Lithuania. But I do have a problem with immigration from Islamic countries,” he said. “The EU leaves us no freedom to determine our own immigration and asylum laws. That's why leaving the EU is necessary.”
Sybrand van Haersma Buma, leader of the Christian Democratic Appeal said Wilders' platform was “utterly bizarre and unbelievable”.
He claimed that “the programme will further polarise Dutch society.”
We'll have to wait and see what happens.
