Big-spending governments are screwing over future generations

Marissa SemkiwRebel Commentator

As provincial budget season begins, I met up with Paige MacPherson, speaking on behalf of Generation Screwed, to discuss how government spending is costing future generations big.

Generation Screwed is an organization dedicated to fiscal responsibility, and has been making the rounds on university campuses across Ontario.

“As any Canadian knows," MacPherson explains, "when you run up your Visa bill, you run into large interest payments, and you’ll end up screwing yourself over down the road. And that’s what we’re seeing with governments, like the Ontario government, who are big spenders.

"They’re screwing over future generations."

I can’t believe she got away with that wind turbine crap. How is there not compensation for landowners?
commented 2015-04-02 13:45:51 -0400
Meanwhile Grip Pipe Wynn is running around planting Wind Turbines, that only work when the wind blows but have to be turned off if the wind blows to strong or they will fry
In the UK a land owner gets paid 1,000 UK Pounds a day for each Tubine on their property. That’s around $2,000CA Dose Wynn pay the same.
Dose she have a lot of relations?

The provinces bogged down with debt ain’t seen nothing yet, wait until rates go up a point or two. There really isn’t much going on in Ontario besides public sector union jobs, same with Quebec, so how do those governments ever get voted out if the majority of the pop. exist off the teat, and how long can that last. I know wynn is ticking off the unions a bit at the moment, but she’ll change her tune again when she needs to to stay in. If I still lived back east I’d sure be moving now. Nothing could bring me back to that province. It has been ruined.

This is so easy to fix, a 10% wage reduction for anyone sucking off the government teat including arms length instruments of the Ontario government. Follow that up with the privatization of every one of these agencies. BOOM, the deficit is gone and a good portion of the debt will be repaid immediately. The unions will fight tooth and nail against this but their sacrifice will be recouped with lower taxes. The economy improves as a result and we’re all winners (unlike the privileged few who have ties to that bastion of corruption: the Liberal Party of Ontario). Just a suggestion to Ms Wynne from a taxpayer.

No one deserves to be called something like that and it tends to make people making these claims look like extremists and hateful.

It’s a great post and I appreciate people have strong sentiments but I ask people to use some civility and refrain from making accusations of pedophilia which are criminal allegations and reflect badly on all of us and don’t even have a relation to the topic at hand.

Someone mentioned below that " Dr Suzuki wants to charge people for inter-generational crime for global warming, and theft from future generations". Stop worshipping these false gods, the elite who line their pockets on the backs of the rest of us. Suzuki is one of the elite for crying out loud. Kids are being brainwashed into thinking they all deserve union jobs, or a job that is painted up to look like one. Demanding made up minimum wage increases, lower tuition fees, more jobs, better jobs, bigger pensions, perks, which have no connection to any real time market reality.

We’ve got some really questionable provincial leaders, easily bought. We all need to take some responsibility. Stop enabling the elite to screw over future generations by standing on your own two feet. Expecting more from the gov. makes the problem worse, its self perpetuating.
That really loud sucking noise? its public sector unions, and all the global agenda that its made up of. Its one of the main vehicles for this wealth distribution crap.
The pie is not finite, just get off your butts and make more pie. Your own pie. Don’t expect the gov. to do it for you because they will screw it up.
But Hudak tried in Ont. the unions were too strong there. Sad.

“Government is not the solution to our problem; government is the problem.”

America’s last great President, Ronald Reagan.

We still have not learned.

As long as public apathy and sheer ignorance to what is really going on in this country, particularly provincially and municipally, the lunatics will continue to run, and destroy the asylum!

I miss SUN NEWS so bad :( At least we have THEREBEL.media for exposing the REAL TRUTH! Unfortunately, very few Canadians overall, view this site. And that is a major problem.

And what is the reaction from mainstream media and of many taxpayers when governments try to trim spending of tax dollars? Take a good look at what has been happening in Quebec recently with Mr. Couillard’s “austerity” budget – the push-back, the protests, etc.!
What was the reaction when the federal government changed from “door-to-door” delivery of mail to communal mail-boxes (saving millions of dollars)? The unions were out in force screaming about lost jobs! There are many, many other instances of the federal government’s attempts to “trim-the-fat” in government programs that received a lot of negative publicity!
If any government stated that its public service was too large, and that it intended to cut jobs to save taxpayer dollars, there would be such a hue and cry from the public service unions; unions would be demonstrating and marching in the streets! Take a look at what happened in Greece!

Banana Republic Governments . They all have no scruples , no values other than serving themselves and their buddies. And the general public is so dumbed down and deceived by the socialist media that they don’t see what they are doing to their own children’s future. It really is pathetic.

The liberals will sell their profligate ways to this generation by telling them that they will not have to pay for their entitlements because their liberal heroes will tax somebody else to pay for them. Somebody like the hated ‘rich’ or the despised corporations. And these kids will fall for it hook line and sinker. They always do.

Stephen H. I don’t think you like Katie?…. If global cooling becomes a reality, how will ‘greens’ spin climate change and justify the debt created to finance to “green” projects? Katie wants the crown, follow me, no matter what, I am right and you are wrong… costly leadership…

Wynne is a pedophile fraud. This foul pig has been on the “kickback train” for years. This pig has no regard for quality of life for Ontarians. And the lousy MSM reports that 12.5B deficit was beat – what a total pile of shit. Too bad Lee Harvey Oswald doesn’t have a Canadian cousin.

This video is fantastic! Paige MacPherson is amazing! I’m a supporter of the Canadian Taxpayers’ Federation, and have read Tax Me, I’m Canadian, countless times. This makes so much sense, thank you for posting this video. I had never heard of the book Generation Screwed before, and now I have to read it. So excited!

Dr Suzuki wants to charge people for inter-generational crime for global warming, his claim about inter-generational crime is valid but it is not the environment, it is the theft frfom future generations being perpetuated by governments that refuse to curb their spending and are running up huge debt. It is time to put an end to the entitlement myth and get back to living within our needs or our descendants will be slaves to the huge debt we are creating.

This is so self evident that I don’t think there’s anything I can add.

If the young people in post-secondary education can wrap their heads around this concept (especially since they have to live it, being students (which, by definition, means they’re supposed to be poverty-stricken)), and if these same students can actually get behind this concept and push it, then most governments in Canada are in for a headache — because these same students are the up-and-coming generation of voters!! Wynne, Prentice, Justin Jr, are you paying attention to this?

Right now one out of every three dollars we pay in taxes goes to pay the INTEREST on our current debt! Just imagine what we could do with that money if it wasn’t being wasted. Better health care, more social programs or hey, how bout cutting our taxes!
On a side note, I wish Paige well. Financial and social conservatives do not typically get a warm reception on University campuses. I hope Marissa does a follow up on Paige’s speech.

Many individuals love to close their eyes to “Interest” on debt. It is good to hear these ladies stress interest on debt, and especially interest on credit card debt. One point that could receive more attention is the effect of compound interest on debt deferment and how quickly the hockey stick curve kicks in. Greece is an excellent
example of how people can be enslaved by the bankers.

First generation wealth people have a firm grasp on the value of the dollar and spend prudently since they had to put their sweat and effort into earning it. First generation wealthy people are usually too busy earning their wealth to be politicians.

Politicians by and large are the wealthy people in society, most often from second generation from wealthy families. With each generation in a wealthy family, the true value of the dollar becomes lost because that generation never had to earn the wealth nor experience being poor.

This, I believe, is one of the reasons why most governments seem to think that they can spend more than they earn, they have no direct experience in the value of a dollar.

Just a theory.

What happens if generation screwed moves away from Ontario like Saskatchewan kids did in the 80’s?

Really good points, pay attention Kids.
