Gun reclassification: How I became a criminal (on paper) while I slept

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

Now that those Conservatives are out of the way, bureaucrats in the RCMP are renewing their plans to prohibit legal firearms through re-classifications.

This time they’ve examined 12 legal guns in the RCMP lab that the bureaucrats think could be modified to be automatic. And so the bureaucrats want them reclassified to prohibited status.

The RCMP did not say if these guns, 11 rifles and a pistol, had ever been modified and used in the commission of a crime. They did not say if these guns are being modified at all. Not that any of this matters, since modifying guns is already illegal in this country.

StatsCan data shows that gun crime is down, almost 45%. And that’s not the only data I found. I found that the instances of offensive prohibited or restricted firearms are so infrequent that they are hardly a public safety crisis.

But this has never been about guns or statistical reality. It’s a struggle over who makes the laws in this country. Un-elected bureaucrats or the democratically elected government of the day. And it's not even a struggle anymore. Trudeau's Liberals are flat out conceding, giving the power to decide who is or isn’t a gun criminal, over to the police.

The only people who should be making laws in this country are the ones who I can hold accountable on election day.

Petition E-111 initiated January 8th, to put the AR15 back to non-restricted status is sitting at about 17,000 signatures right now.

The most recent issue of the NFA’s “Canadian Firearms Journal” puts membership numbers in the NFA at approaching 80,000. I don’t know what the membership numbers are of the CSSA.

We will lose this fight and continue to lose ground in the legislative and regulatory arena unless we all wake up and smell the coffee soon. I am very pessimistic with respect to what Trudeau and his ministers will do to the CFP this time around. Obviously, the RCMP brass are already angling to capitalize on this Liberal government windfall they’ve received. After years of the cold shoulder from the Conservatives they’re chomping at the bit to hit back at us gun owners who’ve enjoyed (in their opinion) too many years of Conservative government protection.

We may have held our ground and made small gains under the last regime. However, IMHO I do not predict that this trend will continue unless we all get vocal and do it very quickly.

Should clarify that I know the Mini14 is currently non-restricted. I’ve long suspected it would again be moved to the proverbial chopping block just because of the Polytechnique shooting. Sadly, it seems that indeed may be the aim of the CFP.

Bill Elder…great posts. Couldn’t have said it better. I should re-iterate though and encourage all gun owners to part with a few bucks and definitely join a civilian firearm advocacy group that has a voice in Ottawa. The CSSA and NFA are your best bets to get your voice heard. We need to write letters to our MP’s and the ministers of the appropriate departments. Sign any petition you can find that supports our cause. We need to unite. Put aside the whole…I’m a hunter and this really won’t affect me thinking. Eventually it will.

I hunt and don’t own anything I suspect will be banned anytime soon, however I want…demand the right to choose an AR if I want one and I want the option to hunt with it. Not just take it to the range. A Mini14 is on my wish list…I want to bring it home one day and be able to use it. I want the freedom to choose!! So should all of us!!

Anyone that shoots at all knows that turning a good shooting Semi Auto into a Full Auto is absolutely ridiculous. You are already limited to 5 rounds, it would completely destroy the dynamics of the rifle, and the whole story is a distortion of the facts. It is not “Hollywood-Tinsel Town” firing off hundreds of rounds automatically without reloading, cartoon style fantasy, and the RCMP should know it is Bullshit. So the real question is WHAT IS THE REAL AGENDA behind this? I don’t think this is coming from Rank and File RCMP officers, this is top down orders to control the serfs.

Since when does the federal police agency have the legal authority to adjust the law to suit their needs?
commented 2016-01-20 13:06:25 -0500
lol and how will they enforce this, Do it high river style kicking in doors. No registry , no way they even know whats out there. Nobody will follow and rules or laws they put out, Just another joke from the idiot liberals. The liberal answer to gun laws ignored will be to make more laws that will be ignored, and on it will go.

It is not about your protection, it is about your enslavement. They want the boot on your throat and they are testing how much pressure they can force on it. When do you think the Pirates are going to let up on the pressure? We are being attacked Mentally, Physically, and Spiritually. The screws are being tightened incrementally. By the time we figure out that we have been sold out by Traitors it will be too late to do anything about it.
“Still, if you will not fight for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as slaves.”

Fred Albertan commented – “Too many people have seen this movie. I predict the re-run will be poorly attended.”

The first time around opposition to draconian regulating of common sporting arms put the largest ever protest rally on parliament hill and the compliance rate was far far less than the politicians were admitting ( it was actually so low it was a political bombshell to repeat the real numbers so the politicians lowered the true number of owners by 10s of thousands to make the low compliance numbers look better) – It spawned a political movement which put the CPC in power

- you talk like some Rosedale lib bagman with a case of rectal cranial displacia – you sure as hell haven’t got a grip on the organic repercussions of bad law.

Most of the firearms these paranoid control freaks say can be made to fire full auto have NO manufactured parts available to convert them to select fire or full auto fire – they were designed as semi-auto only to sell into a sporting market where full auto is banned. Converting these rifles is beyond the capability of most people – unless you are an RCMP ordnance engineer with a million dollar machine shop and ballistics lab at your disposal and several months of time to redesign and manufacture the receivers and firing mechanism of these guns – particularly the Ruger Mini and the commercial sporting M14s.

The firearms targeted are not the chosen weapon of either street gangs or gun smugglers. There is no demonstrable proof the guns have ever been converted easily and commonly and used in crimes routinely in full auto mode – unreasonable vexatious abusive prohibition and registry through reclassification causing significant property loss and criminal indemnity – it is unjustified by statute guidelines and by any constitutional test of law.

Join a civilian firearms advocacy organization, donate generously to their legal war chest and urge them to put this in front of the courts. At the very least you can make the venal bastards compensate those who lose money, business and property value due to capricious abusive regulating. Remember, no matter what the police would like reclassified, it will take a minister to sign off on it and the approval of parliamentary committee – if they try to evade the lawful process for legislative change, raise legal hell !!!

Thanks for the education Mike Webster. Glad to hear that I am wrong. However, I can see problems ahead. Maybe a few law suites against the government may have to be fought.

Gotta love the left, MJ laws are useless in their eyes and prevent nothing and make criminals richer, but gun laws will do nothing like that LMAO!

Back to the elephant in the room that nobody may talk about….and the real arguementation issue that the Liberals and the RCMP will use……please note that the CBC lexicon prohibits the term “bump fire”…..I think it is important that we not ignore it…..trigger warning……
commented 2016-01-19 16:41:17 -0500
We need to conduct a mass refusal campaign. Civil disobedience can be the only response. None of these firearms are registered so it’s pretty simple to say you sold them, and then store them off property. Eventually the CPC will get back in and repair the damage (one can only hope)

Seriously, this is getting bad. The RCMP inches closer and closer to being Canada’s Stasi.
commented 2016-01-19 14:45:18 -0500
Rick Sloan – the Conservatives did indeed change that law. Under the new law and regulations, a firearm cannot have it’s classification changed after it has been on the market for 12 months. The federal firearms advisory panel has the sole power to classify firearms and the actual classification criteria have now been set out in law. they also gave the cabinet the ability to classify a firearm as non-restricted by OIC. Previously OICs could only be used to restrict or prohibit firearms.

What we are about to see in Canada is going to make the French Revolution look like a Sunday School Outing.

The number of firearms removed from public ownership is directly related to the mass importation of Muslim fanatics. Trudeau’s masters in the middle east, are obeyed willingly and without question.

Soon we will see new police vehicles on the streets, they will be APCs with 30 mm machine guns on the roof. They will all be manned by Muslims and likely have the ISIS flag painted on the sides.

This is the end of civilization, as we know it. We will be fighting back with Slings and Cross Bows.

Eventually we will win but it will be a hard battle, with great loss of life.

The only alternative is to stop Trudeau. NOW, by legal means, of course.

what are the 12 firearms they’re trying to reclassify? I own several and just want to know if I may be a criminal tomorrow. thanks.

A semi-automatic firearm fires one bullet each time the trigger is pulled (until you run out of bullets). A full auto fires continuously while the trigger is pulled (until you run out of ammo).

The new controversy and the elephant in the room that nobody wants to talk about is a trigger technique called “bump fire”…wherein the shooter adjusts his “length of pull” and butt pressure either against his shoulder or hip such that the recoil rebound pushes the trigger against the trigger finger at precisely the moment that the trigger sear has re-engaged for the next round thereby causing continuous fire.

Apparently kits have been offered on the internet that involve recoil pad and trigger mods that facilitate this.

The reason why Justin Bourke did not “bump fire” his Norinco during his firefight is because he knew :

(1) you cannot aim while you are doing it
(2) you cannot count on it because the gun will jam more often than it will successfully bump fire
(3) bump firing will not increase your rate of fire significantly
(4) your overall firepower and intimidation factor will not significantly change unless you use illegal high capacity magazines

Even trained troops who have full auto capability on their battle rifles rarely use it especially in .30 calibur rifles.

This should never have happened. I blame the Conservatives on this one. They had a majority and did not change the law that allows the RCMP to arbitrarily change classifications at their whim. The police should not have the power to make regulations like this. They are there to enforce the law, not make it. The way it stands now they can make laws and even brake laws when they want to (Red River Gun Grab).

12 firearms that they previously carefully examined in their lab and declared non-restricted by their top experts with large budgets.

It is either gross incompetence, or malice. (or both!)

You’re right Sheila.
This is the LibTurdo way of doing an Obama-esque Executive Order, and bypassing the parliament and the democratic process, of which many died for, lest we forget.

Junior Jihad TurDope, you want actual safety, I suggest stop importing death cult adherents who worship a beheading pedophile that commands the eradication of all infidels, and debases women who, when not having their heads cloaked in garbage bags, as being filthy trollops justifiable worthy of gang rape, a la Taharrush.
That would be a logical place to start.

The reason they are doing this, is simply because they can! They have no one looking over their shoulders monitoring what they are doing any longer, and making sure that what they are doing is in the best interest of ALL Canadians. With the Liberals in power, they are now free to do what they want, when they want, how they want, and to whom they want. High River was the canary in the coal mine, it was the red flag that indicated clearly that the RCMP has lost it’s legitimacy, and is now an extension of the Liberal Party, in ideology and action. Only this extension is made up of individuals who have a badge and a gun, and can violate our rights with complete impunity. The RCMP must undergo a house cleaning once the Conservatives regain power. The first order of business, is to hand walking papers to all the liberal activists in it. This is imperative if the RCMP are to return to the status of a respected and trusted national police force, that all Canadians can look to in pride. Unlike it is today, where it is looked upon with mistrust, suspicion, and fear.

D. jerome Hauk,
the rcmp high river gun grad was a trial run, a test if you will, too see just how much they could get away with. Obviously they didn’t get much push back from the citizenry. I can assure you they won’t be as covert as last time

In Alberta, we are still waiting for the release of the investigations into gun seizure and associated damage to people’s houses in High River. Commish Ryan… when ?
