"The War on Thanksgiving"? Be grateful we can laugh it off

David MenziesMission Specialist

If you thought a happy inoffensive holiday like Thanksgiving would escape the clutches of the joyless politically correct grinches, think again.

I was recently informed by a lefty journalist that my Thanksgiving Day joy was culturally insensitive for a number of reasons which I'll explain.

Apparently, it's so bad they think we should lobby our MPs so instead of eating turkeys, they want us to lobby turkeys!

They're free to do whatever they want but I'll be enjoying dinner with the family, watching a CFL game and giving thanks that I live in this great country where people are free to be ungrateful if they insist.

Jimmy…you have made your point clear. In the TV series “lie to me” the science of body language is the key to solving their cases. In one episode it was noted that all but one human expression was universal….perhaps it is the only thing that is uniquely cultural….the expression of gratitude.

On this thread ….you have made it clear…..that you are a militantly self interested son of a bitch…..and a thankless ingrate.

Happy Thanksgiving

How come you only recognize God when it’s convenient for you. And who is Kirk Cameron?
commented 2015-10-13 18:22:29 -0400

It’s about Santa and presents and turkey and stuff.

Besides, Christians have been complaining that the meaning of Christmas now isn’t the same – it’s all corrupted and materialistic.

But thank God for Kirk Cameron:

Maybe you can google it

Jimmy, so why is it called Christmas by everyone on the planet? What is the reason for the celebration?
commented 2015-10-13 15:35:29 -0400

I celebrate Christmas, because it’s a time to spend with family and friends and enjoy traditions that I grew up with. That has nothing to do with the birth of Christ, which Christians hijacked.

Andy – Canadians have a unique historic link to this fall celebration of harvest and thanks for bounty – the first known celebration of Thanksgiving in North America occurred during the 1578 voyage of Martin Frobisher from England, in search of the Northwest Passage. Frobisher held thanksgiving ( a traditional religious observance of thanks for plenitude) in a small cove on Baffin Is. Later habitant French settlers brought the tradition with them for harvest thanks giving. Later Scots and Irish settlers did similar but Upper and lower Canada settlers celebrated the harvest blessing at different time until finally it was standardized as a universal holiday after confederation by PM John A. Macdonald.
Canadians in the great wars war observed the holiday by holding communion on this day.

So if there is truly a uniquely Canadian Holiday it is thanksgiving which has its roots deeply entwined in our formative national history – perhaps this is why it is a target for the deconstructing left who must reflexively deny, bury or denigrate the historic record and cohesive national traditions. Attacking Thanksgiving tradition is a denouncement of the founders of this nation and unCanadian in nature -does not surprise me in the least the “History-started-yesterday” zombies would turn on their own nation.

Are we so imbued with fashionable revision of human history that we don’t remember that “Thanksgiving” is only a reflection of a “Harvest Festival” celebrated in all cultures going back since people started farming and keeping livestock some 12,000 years ago?… People slaughtered animals to tide them over the coming winter months, put crops away, and gave Thanks to their respective gods for a bountiful season…. And the festive meal had the doggies snatching at the scraps, as they still do…

Jimmy Da Silva crosses are not allowed in schools, but a Mosque is for some reason.

Guy. That sounds incredibly familiar. My brother and I were just discussing that. I’m gonna start checking off " visible minority" on my applications

Oh thanks Obama’s stupid preacher … my dad did not give me any investments or pay for my education, I got myself where I am starting from scratch and earning my way. Just to be clear we never had much growing up and had NO priviledge even though my ancestors did a lot to build this country starting from when there was no civilization. But that’s okay, you can give up everything you did not earn including all the possessions and structures the church provided you … may be then the descendants of the original indigenous people and slaves can start on the same level I did and you will be when you are homeless. I got less help than anybody with a treaty card and then when I tried to get jobs, they got first pick … I would like to know what “privilege” I am supposed to check!
PS : Make like a turkey and get stuffed!
commented 2015-10-12 21:44:06 -0400
jimmy, why would you celebrate Christmas if you don’t believe in the son of God? Just so you can have a paid holiday? What difference does the date make? Ukrainian celebrate Jan 7. It is irrelevant. If you read the bible from front to back taking everything literally you will not understand. I suggest you partake in “The bible timeline” with Jeff Cavins and ask the Holy Spirit for discernment. Only then will you have ability to comment. Otherwise keep April 1 as your statutory holiday.

Rae _ The SJW frumps serve turkey on "May day: as a matter of fact you can actually see the turkeys marching in parades that day – truly May 1 is “turkey day”.

As for the traditional celebrations of western culture being “problematic” for dogmatic revisionists, that is because they detest their own culture and have been divorced from it ever since their sense of loyalty was surgically removed by PC practitioners and replaced with the perfidy of political intolerance.

I am quite sure that the organically grown ,free range turkeys have quite the intellectual chat with their caged counterparts as they are stuffed into cages on their 300 kilometre journey to the nearest slaughterhouse that kills 50,000/day. " I am going to be Halal . They will slit my throat from ear to ear. People will pay more for my carcass".

“I am organic . People will pay even more for my carcass.”
" They broke my wing and my leg while stuffing me into this cage. I am now a utility turkey. "

Dower fascist frumps – that’s the PC/SJW scolding media. I have a pat answer for them, it involves a physically impossible sexual act and travel. It’s the type of response these preachy fascist harridans need to hear from more of us.

How about a holiday that would suit everyone on the left?… I’m an Idiot Day". Oops! Perhaps not as this implies some form of disability.
commented 2015-10-12 15:55:10 -0400
Thanksgiving is not a Christian religious holiday but a secular holiday. It derived from special days of thanksgiving for particular events, such as a victory in war, or the return of explorers, or health of sovereign, decent harvest, end of epidemics, etc. Of course, who are you going to give thanksgiving to but God, but it is thanksgiving for secular events. (I’m not sure who atheists give thanks to for good fortune) Rather than specially declared days, it was made an annual day 1879 in imitation of the States, and it is still not recognized in the Atlantic Provinces as a statutory days…probably because they don’t have a CFL team to support…

I am not alone in my complete disdain and even hatred of those that are systematically destroying the very fabic and history of our great country. The backlash against the PC zombies is starting, and gaining ground fast!

Thanksgiving means a lot to me because of family and friends and all the memories and the new memories we’ll create.
Thanksgiving doesn’t just happen. We need to feel it, express it, and show it to our children.
I’m grateful to all those who have loved Canada and love her now with the passion she deserves.

The ingrates and complainers should have a special day designated just for them, how about Ingrate Day. They could sit around after their delicious meal of organic sprouts and belch out their discontent.

Liberals are like slinkys: they serve no useful purpose, but you can’t help but smile when you bush them down the stairs. We have so much to be thankful for, just being born ion this Country. Taking one day out of the year to be grateful for that blessing is the least we can do as a Nation. One can’t feel anything but pity for those who refuse to acknowledge that. It’s nothing less than willful blindness and stupidity. Only a Liberal would deliberately choose being miserable and unhappy over being grateful. That’s just weird!
commented 2015-10-12 14:02:16 -0400

How am I stopping you from celebrating Christmas – which isn’t actually Christian at all. It’s Pagen and obviously Jesus wasn’t born on December 25th, so Christians stole all that. But nonetheless – I celebrate Christmas and even I don’t say Happy Holidays.
commented 2015-10-12 13:58:15 -0400

Yes, Christians have no rights at all – they only just have a say on how government is run and make decisions that impact everyone.
commented 2015-10-12 13:55:43 -0400

Why don’t you name the lefty journalist? Otherwise it comes across like you are just making shit up for a reason to rant.

Everything with you is a little birdie that told you or a “source”. Name them to at least pretend that you a real journalist. These are not mafia informants that you need to protect.
commented 2015-10-12 13:28:20 -0400
I am grateful for Thanksgiving, that said I do not believe I should be grateful to be able to laugh it off. The only religion with little to no rights is Christianity. We have become a population of cowering beaten dogs. Showing our bellies and revealing our necks ..This has got to stop.
commented 2015-10-12 11:17:45 -0400
Restored and maintained. We need to hold onto our traditions make them important so our kids will hold onto them and pass them on. Traditions are the threads that hold the fabric of our families, towns, and country all together.
We can’t allow the leftist ideology to bully us into sanitizing everything we hold dear to facilitate their twisted way of how things should be.

Lawrence said, “they want the benefits of the Holy Day while not being responsible for its purpose!”

Very appropriate observation.
commented 2015-10-12 10:05:10 -0400
Instead of all the insane criticism of traditional and Christian holidays, wouldn’t such criticism actually be more valid if they simply said something along the line, “I don’t agree with the foundations of this holiday. So I do not want the holiday. Rather I will continue to work to protest the festivities with which I do not agree!”

Such would be more realistic. But, of course, they would not do this. Like all good lefties, they want the benefits of the Holy Day while not being responsible for its purpose!

Just a vocal minority backed by the shitstream media to sway thinking/opinion.

This process has been going on for decades in Canada. The great news is that the internet has ended this as evidenced by the last 3 ass-kickings that the liberal pig party of Canada has taken over the last 10 years.

globe and mail, national post, cbc, torstar – always good to skim their sites for a laugh and at no cost – these organizations are going broke faster than mary walsh (the CBC pig) downing a snickers bar.
