Hundreds brave cold to rally against Bill 6 - won’t allow Notley to destroy Alberta

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

Farmers from across the province rallied on the steps of the legislature again this week to show their opposition against Bill 6.

Wildrose and Progressive Conservative MLAs joined together to brave the cold to support the farmers and ranchers who gathered to show the government they won't roll over now that Bill 6 has passed final reading.

Bill 6 is the NDP legislation that requires Alberta farms, ranches and greenhouses to follow occupational health and safety standards and purchase WCB insurance for their paid employees. It also allows farm workers to unionize. The farmers are clear: they aren't against safety. They're against the lack of consultation they were given on this unnecessary bill.

And make no mistake about it. Greenhouses are going to be hard hit. With a carbon tax coming at them and now added labour expenses, it's going to be harder and harder for local producers to compete with Mexican or Californian vegetables, where labour costs are lower and heating costs are rarely incurred.

Tuesday morning, according to the onsite sign-up sheet, 700 people took to the legislature grounds over the course of the rally.

There were some speeches from Wildrose and PC MLAs. Wildrose MLA Rick Strankman stressed the importance of continuing to be peaceful and respectful.

Bill 6 attacks farms. They're the most independent and entrepreneurial sector of Alberta and the NDP want them under the thumb of the bureaucracy. And that’s really what this is all about: government control of those free thinking rural conservatives even if it means forcing them into a government system Rachel Notley has herself called broken and miserly.

The NDP think those pesky rural conservatives need the boot of government on their neck.

But farmers and ranchers aren't going to lie down easily. They promise to keep holding rallies and town halls because they say they won't allow this bad law to give the government a blank slate to control their lives.

It was minus 5 degrees when 400 people gathered to protest this legislation. It was less “braving the cold” than “seeing what was going on.”

I can’t tell anyone what to do, but if I was an Alberta farmer, then I would protest by not obeying Bill 6/related Act.

Everybody has the Charter right (depending on circumstances, S. 2 (b), © &/or (d)) to protest & expression.

So, if the Alberta government tried to force compliance, then I would rightly point out that it was infringing my Charter rights and sue, for fair compensation.

Farmers might have to ‘unionize’ and contribute to legal fund.

I believe that everyone has the right & duty to protest bad laws.

YANNIE ZNAYEW still here i see, have you gotten over your fear of farmers yet. Gee the last time you were on here they were going to start shooting with guns right yappie oops yannie, As i have stated before you seem scared of your shadow best stay in your safe place, and above all dont ever ever go to a farmers market, yappie oops yannie there are farmers wives and children there, EARNING A LIVING I KNOW THAT SCARES YOU TO DEATH, someone who works for themselves. You seem to have an irrational fear of all things farms, where do you get your food from yappie, do you cringe in terror walking down the veggie isle, or does chicken in the plastic wrap send you over the edge. God forbid you get some dirt on your hands from any veggie, My god yappie you could even run into a gasp farmer there, stay in your safe place yappie, union hall, NDP cheerleader meeting, im sure you have a few, but be careful yappie because it sure looks like more protests will be on the way be a long three more years yappie. Will you be able to cope with all the stress of farmers all around your safe zone city yappie, will they drive you over the edge yappie, looks to me like they have already.

This attack on farming does not bode well for the food chain. The NDP think they own everything and will try to force whatever they want on our farmers. They need to be stopped!
commented 2015-12-18 22:43:44 -0500
You better hope and pray that farmers keep doing what they do best, so you can continue to feed your faces every day

Oh yea and by the way the PC’s and Wild Rose parties are just using you for easy voter gain, you guys are doing all the work while they pipe up and say yes we totally back you. Albertan farmers played like a fiddle.

Farmers are already the biggest socialist/ commies in alberta and you want to protect ehm further, it really is sad.

Globe and Mail LMAO.

Brandon why the hell shouldn’t they set their own price anyways? Who the hell are you to make them slaves? Don’t like the price don’t buy it. You commies make me laugh.
commented 2015-12-18 21:54:38 -0500
Brandon how about we let them operate freely first, the CWB was the reason they needed subsidies in the first place and when the hell do they set their own prices? Other people get money when the weather is bad and harms them as well. It is not all about your left wing commie BS. They will get more tax money when Snotley unionizes and has them run by the state.

The researchers tracked the number of Conservative-held seats and annual subsidies to farmers from 1986 to 2010, using figures on direct and indirect government support compiled by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development. They also controlled for such factors as farm prices, trade deals and the government’s fiscal position.

Over that period, subsidies in Canada have ranged between more than $8-billion (U.S.) to slightly less than $6-billion. Government support totalled $6.9-billion in 2011.

The main beneficiaries of government support are Canadian dairy, poultry and egg producers, who set their own prices and are protected from most foreign competition by prohibitively high tariffs. There are also numerous “risk management” programs aimed at shielding farmers from such setbacks as disease, bad weather and high feed costs.

Subsidies and indirect transfers accounted for 14 per cent of gross farm receipts in 2011

all from the globeandmail.com

TL;DR – Farmers get the biggest handout of everyone, to heck with equalization payments maybe we should stop subsidizing farms or maybe give me a 14% tax break.

You said “OK, everybody, the NDP are doing exactly what they promised and they still got voted in with a higher percentage than what Harper got in his 2012 majority victory. So suck it up, losers!” Well son..They got elected because dumb asses like you! You’re a mistake and you voted totally WRONG, so why don’t you just sit down now and let us deal with it?

I am overjoyed and buoyed by the response of the good people of Alberta in the ugly face of this fascist incursion on their rights and basic way of life, BUT, what happens when those good people of Alberta find out that all their energy, thoughts and protests in fighting back against this socialist juggernaut comes to naught – because Naughtley’s pinko NDP hordes don’t care, they aren’t listening and are going to keep rolling over you and your rights…all they have to do is keep doing what they have done – which is nothing, and keep doing nothing until the fire goes out of these good people after a month, two months, a year!?
In fact the commie scum have their hands over their ears and they are singing, ‘Na na na na na na, na na na na na na, I can’t hear you….

" Once you’ve finished using NDP signs for target practice, I doubt any of you have the fortitude to take your hatred another step further."
You are assuming that the productive law abiding farm community would employ the same tactics as your brutish union thug comrades. Not so fool!
commented 2015-12-18 14:33:40 -0500
So, I’m a commie fascist pig? I expected better from a gaggle of inarticulate armchair revolutionary wannabes. Once you’ve finished using NDP signs for target practice, I doubt any of you have the fortitude to take your hatred another step further. Assuming you’ll succeed in putting all your despised NDP folks into body bags, who’ll take over? Brian Jean? Ha, ha, gimme a break. Oh, and I’m not going anywhere, anytime soon, so to all you motley excuses for a gang that couldn’t shoot straight, take your best shot, losers!

Did you hear the one about a bunch of farmers that drove their combines on a highway at 30km/h to prove to Albertans they knew how to be safe and didn’t need the governments intervention? LOL!!!!!!!
commented 2015-12-18 10:42:25 -0500
BRAVO ZULU farmers in the west knew years ago the hatred from the east, It was very obvious when the liberals imprisoned a farmer for daring to do what the farmers in the east were allowded to do SELL THE CROP HE GREW WHERE THEY WANTED FOR THE HIGHEST PRICE. You see the east was allowded to do this while in the west it was prison io you did. Only one example , the irrational hatred of the oilsands is another, and yes albertans are now laughing as the fools realize that OMG we cannot take there money, The NDP has done a great job of destroying the economy in albarta, All the while in hiding mode as they are to guttless to come out and face up to what they have done. Never seen the country so divided justin will be the biggest gift the movement to see the west leave ever. We are tired of the endless stream of toronto elites who are full of BS telling us how to live the same goes for pretty much the entire province of quebec. Only a matter of time till the east and west separate, the west cannot and will not be forced to pay for the endless BS that comes from the east. Heard a good one the other day, the only good thing to come from the east is the sun and an empty greyhound bus. Present company excluded

Typical socialist government and the blind that follow them, they divide the people and destroy economies so all their friends and union members can have a lavish life style on the back of the ordinary worker. The people need to take control back over the government, right now the government controls the people which is the opposite of a democracy. Socialists slowly turn a capitalist country into a communist one, why, because they are crooks, liars, and they are no better than the mafia. How many lies do they tell during any election, once elected they do what they want and care less about the people. They only care for themselves, their party, their friends, and union members. And lets not forget the MSM that attach themselves like a tick onto these socialist parties so they can also drive their own agenda, the MSM have become an extension of any socialist/communist party.
