It didn’t take long for a shameful diplomatic incident to occur at the Rio Games. It happened prior to the opening ceremony (which might be an Olympic record) when a group of Lebanese athletes blocked an Israeli delegation from boarding a bus en route to the stadium.
Israeli sailing team coach Udi Gal noted that when members of the Lebanese delegation learned they’d be sharing a bus with Israelis, they demanded the driver close the doors.
When the driver finally opened the doors, Lebanese athletes physically blocked the entrance.
Olympic organizers didn’t want to create a “diplomatic incident” so their solution was to direct Israeli athletes and coaches to another bus.
Once again, those in charge address the issue of bullying by accommodating the bullies.
Imagine how this would have played out in the media if the roles had been reversed and the Israeli delegation prevented the Lebanese from boarding...
