“The U.S. has a gang problem, not a gun problem”: WATCH a hands-on lesson about firearms in Canada

Lauren SouthernRebel Commentator

Last weekend I went to the Abbotsford Fish and Game Club to learn more about firearms with Rod Giltaca of CivilAdvantage.ca and Scott Carpenter of InternationalShootingSupplies.com.

At the gun range, I work on my trigger discipline and "chick lean" -- and learn a lot about firearms laws in Canada.

Did you know that some long guns are classified as "restricted" simply for cosmetic reasons? You'll see an example: Can you tell it apart from the non-restricted firearm right beside it?

I also found out the “best kept secret” about gun ownership in Canada, and which laws designed to “keep us safe” actually seem guaranteed to punish lawful gun owners.

“Sorry, Lauren Southern, but you bought the gun advocates talk hook, line and sinker. Of course there is a difference between the two rifles beyond appearance. It’s called usability factor. As in, is it easy to fire off multiple rounds in quick succession on close-quarters targets, or is the gun too unwieldy or compromised in some way to do so? That’s in part why the restriction is based on barrel length. Obviously, long barrel guns are not as easy to point, shoot and hit a close proximity target with agility.”

So the AR-15 should be restricted because it differs from the other rifles in more than appearance because it is more usable in close quarters because it has a shorter barrel length then the other rifles?

How do you know the AR-15 has a shorter barrel length then the T-97? I can’t tell myself from the video but even if the AR-15 had a longer barrel length it would still be restricted in Canada because it is prescribed as such in the regulations.

Check out this AR: https://www.canadaammo.com/product/detail/dominion-arms-da556-m16-style-rifle-variation/

The AR in the link above has a 20" barrel and is restricted. Clearly barrel length alone is not sufficient to determine why the AR-15 is classified as non-restricted.

With respect to your point on usability, I do see that the T-97 in this video does have a shorter OVERALL length the AR-15. That affects usability also. That’s part of the advantage of a bull pup design. Bull pups can allow for an equal or longer barrel length in an overall shorter design. Longer barrels tend to increase accuracy and muzzle velocity. So in terms of usability, the T-97 may be MORE effective in close quarters.

So we have two semiautomatic .223s with one restricted and the other (shorter one) non-restricted. Why?

Hey Richard Wakefield, please distinguish between the effectiveness of this weapon modification and a fully automatic rifle: http://www.grandviewoutdoors.com/guns/new-trigger-makes-ar-15s-nearly-full-auto/ Then remind me again of how modifying the AR-15 in this way is physically impossible.

Within a few years, the Libs will make sure that nobody can own a firearm. I spent the better part of my adult life as an army reservist, deployed to Bosnia and Afghanistan (Infantry) and during my service enjoyed using everything from pistols to anti-tank recoilless rifles and grenade launchers. I don’t feel the need to own some $4000 Import assault rifle or mega-caliber handgun. If I use it for home defence, especially if the intruder is an immigrant or minority, the current government will throw me in the joint for a helluva lot longer than some immigrant pimping or raping children. When our society collapses. I’m sure I could deal with natives for my firearm needs.

Shameless plug. Visit: https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-111
Sign petition e-111 to make the AR-15 non-restricted. C’mon lefties, you know you want to sign it. Why you ask? Yeah, there’s no need to own an AR…

“Wild pigs are so aggressive and destructive that the Ministry of Forests, Lands And Natural Resource Operations declared open season on them in 2014, allowing any licensed hunter to hunt them any time and anywhere.

Despite those measures, new feral pig populations are emerging in Peace Country and southern Vancouver Island in addition to established herds in the central Interior."
http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/parts-of-b-c-are-being-overrun-by-destructive-invasive-feral-pigs-the-population-could-explode

Feral pigs destroying the beautiful landscape of Bringeth Cashumbria. If ONLY there was accurate, lightweight, popular semiautomatic in .223 that could allow for rapid follow up shots on herds of intelligent fast animals… Hey the AR-15 would be perfect to help control the feral pig population! Oh wait, it’s classified as restricted and so cannot be used outside of a gun range. If only there was an online petition called e-111 that would allow those thousands of B.C. gun nuts to take their AR’s out into the woods and take care of business… cough, cough visit: https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-111. cough

“Isn’t the AR-15 restricted, because it can be easily modified into an automatic rifle?”

No. It is restricted because of barrel length. All rifles with a barrel length of less than 18" are restricted. AR’s with longer barrels are also restricted because the Liberal government of the day deemed them to be restricted by Order in Council.

ARs cannot be converted to full auto. Physically impossible.
commented 2016-04-19 01:31:43 -0400
Correct me if I am wrong on this one. Isn’t the AR-15 restricted, because it can be easily modified into an automatic rifle? And aren’t hand guns restricted, because they can be easily concealed? This would be in contrast to the big anti material .50 cal rifles, that are impossible to hide behind a jacket.

And gun nuts hate it when you start talking video games around them. Well, at least Lauren didn’t talk about dual wielding a pair of model 87s, or how to put on the heartbeat sensor attachment.

Perk 1: Marathon.
Perk 2: Lightweight.
Perk 3: Commando.
Pistol + tactical knife.
All this beats the biggest guns.

Thanks, Lauren.

That should read “any kind of firearm”, not “any kind of forearm”. Yeah, the Forest Service had no objections to me bringing my forearms with me.
commented 2016-04-18 20:20:21 -0400
When I was working for the BC Forest Service, I frequently worked in the bush alone. While employed by the government I was not allowed to carry any kind of forearm, either for survival or protection, even when alone in bear country. When I wasn’t on government time, I carried a short barrel 12 gauge shot gun with a pistol grip, loaded with slugs, for protection in bear country. It would have been sooo much easier if I had been allowed to wear a large caliber hand gun in a holster, and much more practical. It would have freed up both my hands for the work, and would have been much quicker in an emergency. Also a holstered gun would have been much safer, which defeats the government’s logic for the illegality of carrying a side arm, but then governments don’t have to be logical, do they? (fortunately, I never had to use the shot gun, but I did know others who weren’t so fortunate)

Police do not want you own firearms. They control the registry and most are very anti firearm.

Do not ever defend yourself with one – even with video evidence of that defence you will be arrested and jailed – you pay the lawyer.

Police raided houses during the floods in Alberta and ransacked the homes of legal firearms owners to take their firearms.

All in the name of public safety despite the area was secure by police and military.

The military was patrolling with them.

When the police started kicking doors the military refused to patrol with the police as they did not want to be seen breaking the law or supporting the police when they were breaking the law.

No apologies, no money for damages and some firearms still missing from that gun grab.

Find a few firearms – oil them up – buy some ammunition and hide them away.

Tell no one.

Some day you will be glad you did.

Here’s another example of how ridiculous the gun laws are. Old WWII Lugers are prohibited because they have a barrel length of less than 4 inches. But get one rebarreled to 4.25 inches, it can be legal to own and shoot. Same gun, same fire characteristics. One is illegal, one is legal because the legal one is 0.25 inches longer.

You should come to the EESA’s open house June 4, 5. Shoot rifle, shotgun, military and handguns. EESA is just east of St Thomas. EESA.ca

Thanks for this Laura – brought back some memories _ I have shot competitively at AFAG in the day, hasn’t changed much. These guys with the ARs and hand guns make me laugh, what fun is a gun you can’t take to the can dump and shoot some rats or junk with, or go red mist a few gophers or magpies on the bald-ass prairie – shooting steel targets at those ranges just seems like such a lot of wasted ammo.

Unrestricted sports is where it’s at I got bored (no pun) with these restricted pea shooters decades ago.

It is a given that even before the election the Liberals wanted all our guns, well the law abiding, responsible firearms owner’s guns, anyways. Now that Justin has a free hand, he’ll be taking them at some point – or at least his brown-shirted, jack-booted thug hirelings will be trying to…that’s what socialists do. That is as plain as the beak on Céline Hervieux-Payette’s mug she’s pushing into other people’s business, or the fat ass Wendy Cukier lugs around all day, in her anti-gun-nut crusades!
Use your rights or lose your rights…
Lauren: I assume you have a PAL, how about a Restricted? Yes buy a gun, buy several guns, get your Restricted and buy even more guns and lots of ammo. And remember, practice makes perfect. Responsibility and due diligence dictates you become proficient with each firearm you own.
Along with ACUUNA’s great calendar idea, what about a fundraiser in the theme of; ‘THEREBEL Girls Charity Shoot for _____________’, or something? After you sort out your best shooters, you could assemble a shooting team and you could invite various lefty females to compete, and if that didn’t pan out, find some lefty males or media types. Even the public action of inviting/challenging these lefty anti-gun-nuts would be news worthy. Like the billboard near Wynnie’s office in TO.
I’m not being sexist (I think), reality dictates girls and guns will attract way more public interest than, well, you know…

All I saw was a bunch of gun laying on a table causing no harm to anyone. Then a human picked one up and shot it. So how is it the guns fault if some stupid dipshit picks up a gun and shoots someone. Stop taking away my right to protect myself and my family. Car should be banned, knives should be banned, baseball bats banned and lets not forget the spork, we should ban that too. I blame all this bullshit on my parents. They are the ones that didn’t stand up to the government that WE now have to. My father said “I didn’t think they would go this far” I said “Bullshit. It’s the government. What the fuck did you think they were going to do?”

Made my first trip to the range about a month ago. Fantastic experience. AR-15, .22 Rifle, 9mm pistol and 50 rounds at the trap range. Something very satisfying about firing that shotgun. Something about watching those clay targets get blasted out of the sky :) Can’t wait to get back at ’er.
Way to go Lauren.

Firearm restrictions are bound to increase. The Liberals do not want us to be able to defend ourselves against Muslim aggression. You must not shoot a Muslim, even if he is slitting your Daughters throat. Right Justin?

We are not even allowed to read about Muslim Rape Gangs in the GTA.

Liberal Senator Céline Hervieux-Payette who nurtures a pathological dislike of firearms, is attempting to bring in another gun control bill called Bill S-223.
In short, the bill would change the “Restricted” category to “Circumscribed”, prohibit all firearms except a VERY narrow range of hunting firearms and “localize” the prohibition of restricted firearms. In other words, that’s centralized lock up of some of your guns and destruction of the rest.
Among other things, guns would not be “registered” but “inscribed.” In her words: “You can appreciate that the terms ‘registration’ and ‘registered’ have been used so often that we simply thought that using the term ‘inscription’ would eliminate some anxiety. I think that using the term inscription does not evoke feelings of fear”
The Liberals are working hard to get after the legal, tax paying law abiding gun owners.
