Lessons from the Gaza Disengagment, ten years later

Igal HechtIsrael Correspondent

On August 14, 2005, 10,000 Israeli citizens were relocated from their homes in the Gush Katif region of the Gaza Strip.

For ten days, Israelis and viewers around the world watched Israeli soldiers forcibly carry off the settlers.

At the time, I documented the events known as "the Gaza Disengagement."

Recently I talked to former Gush Katif resident Laurence Beziz about her experiences.

Many of her fellow former residents remain unemployed and are still living in temporary housing.

The Disengagement was supposed to bring peace, but the opposite has happened:

Hamas took over Gaza, using it as a launching point for attacks on Israel.

Peter – it’s absolutely sickening to watch, and listen to the pure hatred against Israel. The only real explanation, is their hatred, and envy, of the one true God. I think it’s safe, to point the finger directly at the UN, who is governed by those, who constantly rail against Israel’s right to exist. The UN is ultimately out to destroy freedom, in democratic countries, for their one world government plan. I agree, hatred is evil. I remember what happened in Rwanda, the UN did nothing. It still sickens me, thinking about what happened there. And they would love to have this happen in Israel too!

JOAN ABERNETHY said: “The two-state solution is dead. Take back Gaza. Subdue Hamas.”

I agree. Israel needs to secure herself.

Fraser said, "Once again it proves withdrawal without consequences will not work. "

It also proves that no matter how much Israel gives up to appease the Palestinians, it will never be enough in the Palestinians’ eyes until all Israeli are eradicated from existence. I cannot understand the desire to see even one death, let alone the unimaginable horror of wanting the genocide of an entire race of people as many Palestinians do, and indeed so many people around t he world. I fully support Israel. This anti-Semitic hatred spreading around the world is, well, pure unadulterated evil straight from you know whom.

Joan on this we can agree! Take back Gaza, the 2 state solution is a myth. It was dumb to leave Gaza just like the US signing a nuke deal with Iran. You cannot trust Muslims. Now you have ISIS infiltrating Gaza
Egypt, Jordan etc would probably support Israel under the circumstances that exist now.

Once again it proves withdrawal without consequences will not work. The U.S. and the world led by Obama are doing the same mistake that the Israelis did. Peace without consequent is a fools folly.
