Let's see Trudeau "stare down" Putin over new Russian arctic military base

Rebel Staff

The day after Liberal leader Justin Trudeau won the Canadian federal election, Russia's Vladimir Putin sent him a "welcome message" of sorts.

He announced that Russia has established a massive arctic military base near the North Pole.

Putin says the North Pole is Russian territory and this gesture is part of that claim.

If the West wasn't going to kick Russia out of Ukraine, are really going to order them to leave the Arctic?

This matters because of the enormous mineral wealth below the surface; Russia is already drilling for oil there. What if they start doing the same in Canadian territory?

Trudeau claimed he'd stare down Putin. How? With his best "Zoolander" impression?

Terry, how is it irrational? Unless they are doing science than North America should be taking notice. No, I don’t think it is the end of days, but Putin is a megalomaniac who will do anything to cling to power. Now think about it for a second. If they wanted to go any route, wouldn’t Canada be perfect? It is practically next door. Luckily I think this is the usual posturing, which is one of Putin’s favorite tactics. The point is will Justin just ignore it? I’m not talking about taking it over, but will he at least engage Putin diplomatically? That is the point.

Anyone who thinks Putin isn’t eyeing our North, and waters, well lets just say they are too trusting and gullible. It matters not whether the Russians are on undisputed land at the moment. They are making moves and we need to make moves also. The point was, it will be interesting to see how boy wonder manages with the likes of Russia. After all he thinks we should ‘leave it to the scientists’ to decide who owns the seabed around the North pole. Does anyone think Putin waits for anyone? The timing of Putin’s announcement was deliberate.
It would be better if we made moves out ahead, instead of matching his moves. I guess we’ll see if Justin does even that.

" it probably won’t be long before they set up a base on Ellesmere or Baffin Island."
That’s why I love the Rebel. It’s such a wonderful demonstration of the power of irrational fear to cloud thinking.
Give your head a shake.
Putin is expanding a formerly occupied station, ON UNDISPUTED RUSSIAN SOIL, to house a complement of 150.
Does Russia assert a claim to the seabed around the North Pole. Yes, as do Canada, the United States, and Denmark? Yes, of course.
Does this have anything to do with Trudeau’s election? No.
Does this represent the precursor to an invasion of Canada? Please don’t be so stupid.

Good point Neal Gray, and almost got lost in the chaff… I’m sure that had “Son of Pierre” been PM when Putin staged the 70th anniversary of Communism’s shadow descending over Eastern Europe, he would have been there all kissy-faced… I would offer this warning to The Baltic States and Eastern Europe – just watch Son Of Pierre’s decisions vis-a-vis NATO in the coming months and years…. This is a man more than willing to give up other people’s territory to Putin, let alone Canada’s, and allow us to be “invaded” by Sharia law values…

Just for clarity : By Geographic Coordinates
Geographic North Pole 90, 0
Kaffeklubben Island, Greenland 83.666667, -29.833333
Alert, Nunavit, Canada 82.5052253,-62.6973207
Alexandra Land, Russia 80.6339, 46.5839
Alert is the closer to the North Pole but is not always manned. Kaffeklubben Island is the closest land to the north pole but has no normal population.

Our best hope is that Putin looks across the table at Justin Trudeau and laughs so hysterically at what he sees that he dies of a heart attack.

Bob, It is more like: ‘But Mr. Putin, you can’t do that!’
Putin: ‘Fuck off’

Young turdough may have a tough time with Uncle Vlad. Vlad has resumed testing the awareness of NATO forces it probably won’t be long before they set up a base on Ellesmere or Baffin Island. What will canuckistan do? Will trudough shake his fist at Vlad, go to the UN, this is going to get interesting. My money’s on Uncle Vlad.

I want to know why Chretien was in Russia to visit his pal Putin? It appears, that the party of corruption, has been making plans for awhile. But we will likely never hear what they are, do to the lying MSM.

“Terry Rudden, Justin does not have a mandate to govern Canada with less than 40% of the vote. Well that is what you said about Harper when he was elected. "
No, Egil, I did not say that. You have me confused with that Phantom Leftist that lives in your head.
commented 2015-10-23 15:27:51 -0400
Well, with Jutie Puff as PM, we have already lost any potential claim to the North Pole. Justie Puff will just get Canada to roll over and show its’ belly to Russia.

Terry Rudden, Justin does not have a mandate to govern Canada with less than 40% of the vote. Well that is what you said about Harper when he was elected.

Nathan W, and Ukraine ‘was’ a sovereign nation. Next???

Well, just for starters Russia actually build their own fighter jets, helicopters, ships, tanks and so on. With an economy about the size of Canada’s they must be laughing at the prospect of an arctic encounter. Canada is a joke militarily and it is just in comparison to some European nations that we look somewhat armed. Now we will cancel the next generation fighter jets. The memory of liberals cancelling helicopter purchases in the past have not taken hold. I guess we will start our procurement process all over again? Harper’s efforts to build our armed forces were pathetic. Justin’s goal, I guess, is to go one better to neuter of forces.

Has PM Justin made any mention at all about the Arctic. If he has please enlighten me, or is it all about weed and reversing everything the Con’s have implemented?
commented 2015-10-23 14:44:57 -0400
The international process for resolving arctic disputes is already in place. It has been agreed that underwater geological features will count for establishing claims, and there is an underwater mountain range extending from Russia, legitimizing its claim.
By this method, the north pole belongs to Russia, according to a method established ages ago to ensure peaceful means of allocating territorial rights in the arctic.
At most, JT could ask for a copy of the maps and data to legitimize the claim, but it’s freely available online so I don’t know why he’d bother.
The claim is legitimate. We also have bases in the arctic.

He’ll wear his best tutu and hold Putin’s hand for the next Mayday Parade in Red Square.
commented 2015-10-23 13:57:29 -0400
Yeah, Trudeau is really going to stand up to Putin. Putin is just shaking in his silly boots. A Trudeau, the peacekeeper class, are going to cause Putin to rethink his arctic invasion? Please.

Keith; unfortunately, nothing you said rebuts or expands on anything I said. Thanks for the input.

Rudden,
As usual, you are acting like a Custard Tart. You and your Left Wing Comrades, jump on these pages, attempting to sound like you know what you are talking about, trying to sound intellectual. In truth you are nothing more than lame brained, Muslim loving shit heads, who dream of nothing else but sucking on one of Queen Trudys appendages.
You forget that Harper has just pulled us through the biggest recession since the Big Crash of the Twenty’s. Pull your fingers out, join the real world. Your Idol did not get elected on his own Merritt. He was elected on the lies and false information of the MSM and also with a lot of, apparently illegal, money. A few years in the Army would smarten you puffs up.

Ya we also thought we were doing it right in Alberta, but I guess we aren’t according to our new government and look who ain’t working. Never say never when it comes to the green movement, it’s amazing how fast it comes to bite you in the ass.
commented 2015-10-23 13:04:57 -0400
Actually, Kelvin, the framework for environmental monitoring and management (including protection and remediation measures) predate the Harper Government by between ten and thirty years (depending on when specific Land Claims or self government agreements were signed). They survived Harper’s assault on NRCAN and Environment Canada because they’re distinct, co-managed regulatory frameworks. And they’re doing very well indeed, thanks very much.
commented 2015-10-23 12:59:10 -0400
You make my point Terry, I fear that will come to an end with the current government with their so called green practices. So they then just put a proud people back on the dole.
commented 2015-10-23 12:56:38 -0400
Vlad, I have to admit, some of your comments just make me laugh out loud…bravo for having the balls to say them…keep in mind it is not an endorsement…still damm entertaining…
On Putin…the left does not know what to do with him, he will do the work they think should be done but need someone else to do it, so they don’t take responsibility if it becomes a shit storm, and they are scared of him because he will do what they won’t do. The right, realizes he is aligned with some of their core values, but it is better to pertain they disagree with some of his actions while silently cheering him on.
commented 2015-10-23 12:51:53 -0400
Kelvin, you suggested that you were involved in oil and gas. So you’re presumably aware of the development supported by the Inuvialuit, who have done rather well in collaborating in the northern development in many areas, including minerals, transport, and so on. Want to tell Nellie Cournoyea that she has no “pride” in northern “self-sufficiency”?

Hopefully, their meeting will take place in a gym. They might find some common ground once the start admiring each other’s pecs!
commented 2015-10-23 12:46:36 -0400
Thank goodness we will be going back to the old liberal ways of just giving money to the people of the north instead of all that messy development stuff so that they can have some pride of self sufficiency.
commented 2015-10-23 12:39:13 -0400
I disagree with you Terry . I guess we just have to wait and see.
