Liberal's NEW 24 Sussex reno plan: $150 million -- "That's more than Bill Gates' house cost"

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

I told you the other day that Justin Trudeau is refusing to move into 24 Sussex Drive until it gets millions of dollars in renovations, paid for by taxpayers.

But I didn’t know the half of it.

The Liberals back in power awakens a zombie army of lobbyists, schemers, scammers, everyone looking to get their share of the loot.

It started, even before Trudeau won the election — we saw the Liberal campaign co-chair, Dan Gagnier, selling advice to clients on the side about how to lobby the Liberals.

Now bureaucrats and scammers in Ottawa have come up with proposals not just for a $10 million renovation of 24 Sussex Drive, but a $150 million rebuild.

That’s more than Bill Gates’ house cost.

Stories demanding renovations are everywhere. Even the Wall Street Journal is saying no G7 leader should set foot in there, and that it was full of cats, like some gross reality show about hoarders.

What a lie. I’ve been there. It’s a gorgeous heritage building.

I’m sure it could use renovations. But you know what? According to Justin Trudeau himself, there are dozens of Indian reserves in Canada that don’t have clean drinking water. And yet Trudeau and his fanboys in the press gallery have seized on renovating the boy prince’s house as the number one government infrastructure priority.

It’s bizarre.

Remember when a Harper cabinet minister, Bev Oda, was fired over a sixteen dollar glass of orange juice in a hotel bar?

The greatest scandal in nine years was a wealthy Harper staffer personally paying $90,000 to the government, and the police investigated the paying back of $90,000 as a crime.

I predict it won’t be long before we miss old Stephen Harper.

I can’t believe that anyone believes this drivel
No where does it say in any legit media that this is happening

Stop the bullshit, Ezra. You are a liar.

@william Wiser: Harper had repairs conducted by the NCC on 24 Sussex during the summer months when his family moved to Gatineau. It is not as though he was entirely neglectful. Harper did not put a major renovation on 24 Sussex on his priority list as he had other priorities. http://www.macleans.ca/news/canada/this-old-house/

This is just another scam by the Liberals to grab tax payer money and pay off their liberal friends, and it will not stop until we rational Canadians stop it.

Any man with half a brain would know that one has to maintain and do upkeep on their property. Putting it off just ends up turning some minor problems into huge expensive ones. Any responsible home owner does it, why shouldn’t the home of our Prime Minister be any different? I guess Harper is the type who if they find a leak, instead of fixing the roof they just stick pot under it.
commented 2015-11-02 01:54:48 -0500
Maybe that’s what it’s going to cost to get the stink of Harper out of it haha

A 150 million is more than the place is worth. For 150 million you could easily build six or seven brand new places.
commented 2015-11-01 09:46:38 -0500
While a guestimate budget of ten million is one thing, you just know that if they want to totally gut and make this place green with all the bells and whistles, that budget will go right out the window.
Not too sure about 150 million. That seems a bit high, but it will definitely be more than 10 million.
I think the past PM’s frugality has went a little too far, now the place is unsafe and crumbling. So, why not just set it up as a museum and keep the Trudeau family in the Rideau house.
22 rooms are 10 or 12 more rooms than the average Canadian I’m sure.

Does the remaining shred of your soul die a bit every time you write something as idiotic and completely false as this? You’re a joke in the world of tabloid news, I’m trying to sum up the courage to feel bad for anyone writing this drivel and anyone who even remotely believes it, you’d be better off reading that aliens lived at 24 Sussex and that Harper is actually one of them.

Justin is NOT refusing to move into 24 Sussex he is following the request by The National Capital Commission (NCC) and the repairs are not cosmetic but structural and safety related. And it has no connection or effect on the clean water on Indian Reserves. But of course this Tea Party North member of the Reform party in hiding that calls it self the Conservative Party does not let the facts or the truth get in the way of what he says.
24 Sussex belong to Canadians NOT the PM and as such should be maintained as a Nation Historic Monument should be and not used to show how frugal a government is with our money. The facts are such that, had the needed maintenance been done all along, we would not be facing the level of cost now needed to repair and update this PUBLIC Landmark.
Harper may have been happy to let his family live in a house with asbestos insulation. But it is criminal that we would ask staff to work in that kind of environment let along bring the PM’s family and foreign and domestic VIPs into it.
EZRA LEVANT cares nothing about the truth, and like most Tea Party supporter north and south of the border have failed their IQ test at least were it concern reality.

And yet Mr. Harper and his family (children were under 10 when they moved in) lived in it for 9 years. I wonder if Mr. Harper can sue the federal government if his children develop mesothelioma? Granted the residence needs renovations. However, renovations should not equate with building a Taj Mahal for our new emperor!
commented 2015-10-31 10:23:40 -0400
I guess this guys entitled to his personal opinion but it shouldn’t be confused as news. This is just anti liberal propaganda. At least the moron writer admits the fact that this historic building needs renovations.

Sorry, as much as I don’t like where we are headed in this country. This isn’t a Liberal or a Trudeau thing. This was presented and proposed about 5 or 6 years ago when we were in government. Perhaps it’s time to consider other options for our new PM.
commented 2015-10-30 22:15:27 -0400
I hope that we all can grow to miss Mr Harper. I predict that one of the things Trudeau is going to do is give himself a raise. I was surprised when watching the election and CBC said that PMs make something like 240,000 and I thought that was really small. Googling it, it might be around 300,000. But to put this in perspective Hydro Ones CEO is making about 4 million. In my mid-size city of London UWOs president is made 400,000 in 2012, City manager Art Zuidema made 225,000. So I can’t wait to see the media party’s reaction to the inevitable tax and spend ways of giving themselves more money. I’d like to think that Harper didn’t raise his salary that high because he saw being a PM as a civic duty not an opportunity for self-advancement.
commented 2015-10-30 21:29:22 -0400
I’d do it for 10 million. but heck if they want to spend 150 I could do it for 15 million and put 5 million in my pocket on top of the other cash. Heck, you could put in a lot of windows for a 100k. and a lot of Floor for a 100 k, and a lot of grass etc. for a hundred K. Heck, you could put in a sound system so loud that it could vaporize anyone in the building for a 100 K. The Idea that the place needs 150 million dollars to renovate is Insanity. who put this number forward.
commented 2015-10-30 18:42:56 -0400
But wasn’t it Mommy Dearest who was first to come out and say they were not moving into 24 Sussex? Mom now speaks for the new PM? How scary it that? And since when has money been an obstacle to any any Liberal administration?
commented 2015-10-30 18:17:02 -0400
In 1949 the US did a total renovation on the White House at a cost of $54 million dollars. That’s $545,500,000 in todays dollars. $150 million is a bargain!!!

Raze 24 Sussex and make Rideau Cottage the new residence of the PM. It is on the grounds of the GG, and we are still a constitutional monarchy. It is quite large as seen here http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/news-video/video-a-look-at-justin-trudeaus-new-residence-rideau-cottage/article26995404/#video1id27008107. 22 rooms is about perfect for a family of 4 of Justin’s stature. I’m sure any visiting dignitaries would have no problem staying at Rideau Hall for formal engagements and retiring to the cottage for “fireside chats” about global warming and income inequality and such. After all, the cottage was newly renovated in 2013 with our tax dollars and Prince Justin is so worried about “normal” Canadians.
commented 2015-10-30 14:43:22 -0400

I was never talking about the cost.

The $150 million renovation option is not a “Liberal plan”, it’s an alleged proposed NCC plan to turn 24 Sussex into a working residence like the White House, complete with offices for PMO staff, which would likely require major restructuring and an extension. No such plan or estimate exists on the National Capital Commission’s 2008 audit—somebody please find it for Ezra and prove me wrong. The NCC is a non-partisan group, currently with 6/15 members appointed by Stephen Harper earlier this year (5) and John Baird in 2012 (1). (http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-news/ncc-board-shuffled-before). From Edward’s link:

“One option developed by the NCC would transform 24 Sussex into a working residence, similar to the White House, with offices for staff from the prime minister’s office and privy council office. That would cost $150 million, [Huffington Post] reported.”

Trudeau is not “refusing” to move into 24 Sussex, he is accommodating repairs from a 2008 NCC plan which requires that the residence be vacated for 12-15 months, something which Harper opted not to do. Harper got flack from all political parties for not allowing the repairs to take place—even Duceppe thought they were a good idea, and in 2013 Ignatieff offered to temporarily move out of Stornoway to make room for Harper during the renovation.

Everyone was on-board for the long-standing and much-needed repairs except for Harper. Should Harper have received criticism for allowing the repairs listed in the NCC’s non-partisan 2008 report, he could have simply cited the $10 million estimate in the NCC audit (which reported the condition of the windows as “critical to poor”, and chimneys, walls, and foundation as “poor to fair”) and successfully labelled his critics as petty partisans for opposing much-needed, long-standing repairs to one of Canada’s most important heritage sites. The NCC is outside of the PM’s purview, and anyone attacking him for following their recommendation would have looked like an idiot.

“Canada has been hijacked by these Liberal idiots. They do not have the support of the majority of Canadians and yet …”

Why are you guys arguing with the “Liberal idiots” (both old and new resident trolls)? Unless you enjoy hitting your head against a brick wall its a wasted effort. Realize that they are so indoctrinated that even when facts prove them wrong they will still continue to believe they are correct and the facts are wrong. They live in their own bubble of mock-reality, could be why the legalization of marijuana was so appealing as a vote getter.

Canada has been hijacked by these Liberal idiots. They do not have the support of the majority of Canadians and yet are doing as they please with their media propaganda machine as cheerleaders going along with it. The house was good enough for Harper and it should be good enough for Trudeau. Trudeau seems to believe that he is royalty and I guess you can`t blame him because the biased and partisan media treat him like it. I have essentially stopped watching the news or reading papers. The one good thing about the election is that the media finally tipped their hand and we all know now for certain that they are corrupt and biased and partisan and that everything you see from them must be taken with the proverbial grain of salt because everything they publish is slanted towards their ideology and meant to push their left wing agenda on all of us, even if we are against it.
I am now waiting with trepidation to see what monstrous plans they have for citizens such as gun owners who they have a special hatred for.
Canadians that want justice must now take Trudeau and the Liberals to task and do exactly what they did to Mr. Harper. Except we will have truth instead of lies and exaggerations. And since we do not have a mainstream media propaganda machine like the Liberals, the The Rebel will be our rallying point.

The renovations are surely meant to house the 25000 migrants that Trudeau wants to bring here.

What sickens me is the National Post, what I thought of as the last mainstream, right wing news source in Canada, singing his praises day in day out. This is seriously my only source of news now. And I’m not denying that it concerns me a bit!
