Minutes before Yassin Sahi beheaded his boss in a stunning example of workplace violence, my brother Miles was praising academics for locating the culprit behind all this extremist outrage: it’s us.
As Boston U. associate professor and (apparent) Muslim convert Kecia Ali states:
“In focusing on current abuses in the Middle East, perpetrated by those claiming the mantle of Islam, Americans -- whose Constitution continues to permit enslavement as punishment for crime -- deflect attention from partial U.S. responsibility for the current crisis in Iraq.”
That’s right. It’s America’s fault, or more pertinently, it’s the white man’s fault.
Our bad behavior is the reason there is honor killings. Our prison system justifies their sexual slavery. Our brutal homophobia all but forces ISIS to throw gays off buildings.
If we could only be better people, ISIS would follow closely behind.
