After far too long of a hiatus, I am proud to announce that the Truderpy Awards are up and running once again. It's so important to keep a focus on the individual MPs who make up Trudeau's motley crew, because we spend so much time going after the Prime Minister that we lose sight of the fine details.
The Liberals are masters of misdirection. They think we can only be mad about one thing at a time.
And that's why we'll be honouring Mount-Royal MP Anthony Housefather with our next Truderpy Award, in recognition of his attempts to blend in and hope nobody will notice that he just voted for Bill C-6. Which would, among other things, restore citizenship to Canadians who have been convicted of terrorism.
And why is it significant that Mr. Housefather in particular voted for this bill? Why should he be singled out?
Because Mr. Housefather's riding of Mount Royal boasts the second largest Jewish community in Canada.
During the election, Housefather was happy and proud to defend the Liberal record on Israel. He was very vocal about how the Liberals had promised not to change the way Canada voted at the UN when it came to Israel if they were elected.
This is important because Chretien and Martin used to talk a good game on Israel but let their voting record at the UN speak to their true intentions, which made things very awkward for Liberal Jews trying to justify their affiliations.
How then to signal to Israel's enemies that things have not changed? By giving safe haven to convicted terrorists.
This way, if a Canadian is recruited by Hamas- which CSIS believes may have happened- and commits an act of terrorism against Israel, they can continue to enjoy all the benefits of citizenship if convicted.
Why bother with some piddling vote at the UN condemning Israel for defending themselves against terror when you can just roll out the welcome mat for actual convicted terrorists?
Housefather, a former mayor of the Jewish suburb of Cote St. Luc, cannot be ignorant of this....but he probably figured no one would notice. Everyone's too busy focusing on the UN voting record, and he was careful to have that base covered.
Well, I certainly hope that Mr. Housefather notices this Truderpy award, and the increased scrutiny such an honour brings.
