Newsflash for Notley: Job loss a bigger drain on health care than sulphur dioxide

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

The Canadian Association of Physicians For The Environment are strong supporters of Rachel Notley’s coal phase out. But does it really matter?

The doctors’ group says that closing coal fired generation will save millions in healthcare costs by eliminating one third of the sulphur dioxide from the Alberta Atmosphere. Health Minister Sarah Hoffman says Albertans "can save hundreds of millions of dollars in costs that impact the healthcare system."

Millions? That’s horrifying. Sulphur dioxide is a main component in acid rain. Should I be worried about going outside and having my face eaten off by acid snow? Silly me. I thought we took care of this problem when the first George Bush was president, with the signing of the Acid Rain Accord.

Well, that’s the thing. We actually we did take care of this problem. I checked.

If you're worried about ambient sulphur dioxide, the prairies are the best place to be. In fact, we are way better than BC and Ontario. So while reducing emissions by a third seems like a lot, Alberta SO2 levels are already at 0.6 parts per billion. Yes, that’s per billion. Shutting down all coal fired generation would only save Alberta 0.2 parts per billion of atmospheric sulphur dioxide.

So is it really worth all the lost jobs and energy poverty to forge ahead with Notley's no coal plan?

I don’t think so. It’s just not worth the poverty.

But you know what is costing our healthcare system? Poverty. A study done under the direction of the Ontario Association of Food Banks found that poverty accounts for $7.6 billion in Canadian healthcare spending.

If the NDP want to save money on healthcare, they need to keep people working and keep our energy costs low. And phasing out coal won't do any of that.

Andrew who will pay for these anyways, it means more debt for others to pay in the future, of course you think money comes from a tree i suppose.

Andrew newsflash, the NDP hate gas as well. And the article is correct, yet here you are acting like you have one upped someone.

We have to take their word for it because, well, one of them was a Dr. You can tell because he was wearing scrubs and had a stethoscope around his neck. I wish we could vote these carpetbaggers out today!

Having a morbidly obese health minister is funny enough. And when she succumbs to Type 2 diabetes, liver disease, hypertension, and a whole buffet of illnesses she is vulnerable to, Notley will have a lot of trouble declaring that her policies promote better health. Her health minister should know that her choices are presenting a poor example to follow. And the black comedy continues to unfold…

Another day. More dipper BS. Given the size of the health minister, a lot more BS to come.

In the aftermath of chaos, there will always be demands for the most extreme measures to restore order. Notley is free to do whatever she likes, and wreck as much as she pleases. In the ruins she creates, there will be an extreme correction. Once the harm of their lies has been revealed, the way will be open for more forceful and moral people to restore what they have destroyed.

We should all be very thankful that people like Notley are able to wreck everything and prove to everyone that the false promises are just that – false. empty, and destructive lies.

Robert Hewgill – bingo, that is exactly the reason, and Rachel should be charged as a traitor. I can’t wait to see her booted in the next election. Hopefully she will leave AB at that time, so that we can rebuild.

The goal of the left as they’ve already stated is to destroy the free market capitalist system. I haven’t heard another party say that they will reverse everything these communist criminals are doing.

You know what else is a big drain on health care? Obesity!

The NDP would have had conniption fits about air quality, if they grew up in Flin Flon, MB, when our smelter stack was billowing out clouds of noxious fumes. Though we all lived, I still think it’s imprinted in our DNA. Every little thing will be a crisis under the NDP! Yes, let’s shut down the cheap energy, and make sure we inflict the most damage possible. Each day we get closer to booting these fools out! The NDP’s goal is to kill off all of those reliable jobs, so that she can ensure that the peasants are thrown into poverty. Only a mindless communist would be alright with this, and Rachel never fails to disappoint.

Newsflash for Rebel: The coal generators would need to be refurbished or replaced in the next 15 to 20 years anyway, and it’s cheaper to move over to natural gas anyway. This was already the plan, years ago. The real worries were whether TransAlta, which is monstrously indebted, would be able to upgrade its fleet on its own. They’ve got government guarantees now, so now Alberta gets a top of the line, modern generating fleet.

That it reduces sulphur and other emissions is almost secondary. It’s a major benefit, but the fact was, this was already the plan anyway.

First question that comes to mind…. based on the information in your video, if I understand it correctly.
- Health benefits of lowering atmospheric sulphur dioxide levels are stated in dollars as a prediction
- Hard evidence shows that sulphur dioxide levels have dropped from a high “Level A” to a lower “Level B” in the past

- Because of the lowering of sulphur dioxide levels in the past, during that same period of time, health care costs should have come down

Question: Did they?

I’ll save you the trouble:
Answer: No. Health care costs have skyrocketed in the past, even during the entire time the sulphur dioxide levels were dropping.

Conclusion: The predicted benefits are not based on past experience, and are based entirely on environmental activist’s goals to destroy fossil fuel industry and have nothing whatever to do with human health.

…and besides an increased stress on health care and social welfare systems will be the criminal system. How many others have noted an increase in theft, etc? Then there will be the mental health system, with economic collapse of jobs and personal assets tends to be increased suicide attempts and successes. However, those are just the little people. The NDP and their union masters have it good.

Sheila: I’m impressed with your research, but stunned by the ignorance of The Canadian Association of Physicians For The Environment and of course the Alberta Government for not knowing the stats that you dug up in likely a few minutes. One Group should have known, while the other . . well, what can you say !! :)

With the NDP dogma trumps reason.
