Last weekend, my lefty friend suggested I celebrate Labour Day by watching his favourite flick of 2015 Trumbo, a biopic about Dalton Trumbo who in 1947 was the highest-paid screenwriter until he was blacklisted for being a member of the Communist Party.
Bryan Cranston as Dalton Trumbo is superb though the movie itself would’ve been twice as good if only it were half as long. But I'm not doing a film review. What struck me about the movie was the kid-glove treatment it gave communism.
Progressive apologists lament that the ideology is valid but hasn’t been implemented “properly” and it is the poor execution by misguided dictators that is to blame for the atrocities committed in its name.
That’s a lie. It’s the ideology itself that is deeply flawed.
Trumbo got a raw deal being blacklisted for his beliefs but let’s not sugarcoat and make excuses for the toxic ideology that is communism.
