Notley’s Throne Speech unveils “lean” bureaucracy to help Albertans save money on energy

Sheila Gunn ReidRebel Commentator

Tuesday was the Alberta Speech from the Throne. In our system of democracy, it’s meant to spell out the agenda for the new session of the legislature.

In that throne speech, the NDP revealed “A new lean agency called Energy Efficiency Alberta will help families, businesses and entire communities reduce both their energy costs and their greenhouse gas emissions.”

What? In a time of economic downturn, record debt and ballooning public sector costs, the NDP think we need a brand new special bureaucracy to tell us how to be more energy efficient?

Here, let me save us all a bunch of money on bureaucracy: Turn the lights off behind you and wear a sweater before you go broke trying to keep the power bill paid and the furnace running.

You’re welcome.

Want to save me money on my power bills, Rachel Notley? Back off the carbon tax and the coal phase out. But don't create an expensive new bureaucracy and tell me it’s because you're trying to save me money.

Sheila Gunn Reid gets kicked out of the Alberta legislature because she shows up 90 minutes late in a frumpy outfit, but the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta gives the Speech from the Throne dressed like this !? What kind of justice is that?

Rachel seems to be stuck in the past due to her warped ideology. You can tell because she is immature and surrounds herself with women half her age. That would be like me hanging around with my daughter and her friends, and acting as they do. Actually my daughter and her friends are much more mature than Rachel and her class clowns! And they are conservative in nature, and can see the absolute disaster in the activist Rachel’s plans for the destruction of capitalism, due to the jealousy and envy of those like Rachel, who have never had to struggle to make ends meet in their lives. The peasants in AB can’t even get a seat at the table, because Rachel is just ignoring anything that doesn’t fit into her scripted destruction plans for AB, and Canada. Ignore the people at your own peril Rachel. Shame on you for what you have done deceptively to your own province. Oh the tangled webs we weave, when we first practice to deceive.

Frankly I am getting tired of being governed by the occupy movement.

Rachel Notely will never gain the confidence of the majority of Albertans.

The energy sector is a nervous wreck which does nothing for economic growth. The downturn in the energy sector is now being felt in almost all other facets of the economy.
Rachel and almost all her Cabinet are linked to anti oil, anti-pipeline and anti-1%‘s as activists. There is no escaping it, they were even caught on camera wearing the appropriate T-shirts, at the rallies. So no matter what Notely says about getting pipelines in-no one believes her, coupled with introducing a carbon tax which wasn’t an election item.
She now knows full well that this is a one term wonder. And that makes Alberta’s future more at stake. Notely and her ‘snippy’, ‘arrogant’ cabinet ministers are on a mission and that will prove to be very detrimental for Alberta’s future.
After 4 years of Notely, unless something changes, we won’t recognize our Province.
Keep writing the MLA’s. Keep expressing your ideas and concerns. Support media like the Rebel and others who are willing to speak the truth. otherwise this Province could self destruct in 3 years and 1month and counting.

So much for “PAID IN FULL” , now for some record debt. And meanwhile the progressives will say the left is better at economics LMAO!

Raising taxes on someone helps them save money???? Only a socialist retard could come up with something as ridiculous as that. I actually wonder if these idiots realize we cannot pay more than 100% of what we make? I could see them coming out with a 110% income tax and them not realizing it is impossible.

“lean” with 50,000 new public employees and counting?

That bitch is driving this province into the ground with a smile on her face!

Mongrel & Meriyn – listen to CKUA for over 20 yrs. Donate when I can, it is on my list of charities – if only to keep Holger Peterson and the best Blues program anywhere on air. Kinda handy that I can usually find a tune on Stoney Plane CDs when I hear something I like on the program.

Lefties need lots of overpaid union service union workers to vote for them and to run attack ads against conservatives.

It is a symbiotic relationship.

Don Smith,

Is that because your carbon tax goes by another name than tax? If so, then by the power of words it is not a tax but a good or service. That is probably why the Alberta Non-Democratic Party changed the name from carbon tax to carbon levy, so the tax can be taxed.

I was a long term contributor to CKUA as well, both monthly and program sponsorship. However, being a pensioner, budget choices have been made with respect to the carbon tax. I am sure, he says sarcastically, the public service, aka the 1%’ers, will fill the gap left by the long gone blue collars and the fixed income pensioners; rather than just enjoying the station without contributing like they do.

Sadly this is a reality. Budget choices need to be made, and the first to go are charitable donations. I’ll be really sad when I have to cut the two children’s’ hospitals, but that is real possibility as well.

Isn’t socialism great?

Albertans are worried about a carbon tax. Here in BC we have had a carbon tax for quite a while and it’s not a big deal – at least according to our government.

From my latest home heating gas bill
Cost of gas 1.719 / GJ
Carbon Tax 1.4898 / GJ
GST on the carbon tax @ 5% = 0.07449 / GJ
GST on the cost of gas @ 5% = 0.08595
So that’s only 96% added to the cost of gas.

Nobody should complain about that, should they?
Someone will say that there is no tax on top of another tax. I thought that too, so I called the BC Revenue Service and they informed me that No, they cannot tax another tax, but in this case it is OK because the Carbon Tax is NOT a tax. To clarify that, if a tax IS a tax it cannot be taxed, but if a tax is NOT a tax then it can be taxed. I have a bit of trouble understanding that, but that is only because I am not as intelligent as those wonderful people at the tax office.

Canadian Mongrel: My husband and I, through monthly contributions, have supported CKUA for more than 20 years. I can’t tell you how much I detest the “Green Energy Futures” spots, usually voiced with the unctuous David Dodge, which are all left-wing, climate-change balderdash. If I didn’t realize how much this station is hurting for funds that they are forced to resort to garbage like this, I would revoke my monthly payments.

Love the buzz words “lean” heh heh, -haven’t heard that used in private sector management concepts for more than a decade when “lean” referred to efficient productivity systems, not cash-strangled stim programs or extravagant administration-building.

These Dippers are just so far out of touch with private sector lean management paradigms it’s pathetic to watch their inept floundering.

I wonder if anyone has ever examined a Socialist’s brain. I am sure they would find some kind of anomaly that causes them to act like they do. With Notley they would need a Magnifying Glass.

Socialists love making bigger government. Taxpayer be damned!

You are welcome. Hopefully you become a fan. I would suggest my favourite programmes, but music is personal.

Remember the Tom Petty song, The Last DJ? CKUA is the personification of it.

Start looking for good wood burning stoves that you can bake with and have a big hot water reservoir. There prices will be going up!

Canadian Mongrel – thank you for the information about CKUA!

Good news though. Listening to CKUA, a listener supported Alberta radio network like the Rebel is a viewer supported e-network, the invisible woman, Alberta Energy Minister, was talking on the paid political programme, Green Energy Futures. She was talking about how this initiative will help create jobs. She was talking hundreds of jobs. Now, if she was not invisible, she could have saved tens of thousands of jobs being a theoretical senior minister elected by the people. Of course, her immediate boss is one of the parasites brought in as her deputy minister. I will also say I was glad to hear her stumbling on her mandated talking points, because I still respect the person I once knew.

Speaking of CKUA. If you are not from Alberta go to and listen to music programming that will satisfy the greatest junkie of music: reconstructed Ancient Greek through to the most experimental Jazz, Blues, Metal.

Sadly, the station depends on donors. Most came from the patch. Hopefully some of the public sector, who enjoy CKUA as the cool station supported by others, step up. The blue collar money has dried up, and this is what kept it alive. The Carbon Tax also makes budget choices necessary, my donations are spoken for now. So can the 1% who are public service in Alberta step forward now? This is the new reality public service buds.

Deborah…exactly!! Just wait, the money losing, tax payer subsidized green energy plans are on the way. The Ontario green mafia has a hold of our money now. I know for fact that they are looking for big chunks of land in the SE of our province. SOLAR.

Alberta is finished. Financial collapse and riots in the streets. Burning cars, burning buildings and all that crap.

It also lets us know that Wynnie’s plan is spreading into AB. Notley hasn’t got an original idea in that pea brain, so she has to copy the plan of destruction from that criminal in ON.
commented 2016-03-09 18:10:31 -0500
Yes, only socialists could think that making more bureaucracy to tell Albertans how to cut energy costs is a good idea.
commented 2016-03-09 18:01:44 -0500
We certainly don’t need Nanny Notley telling us how to conserve energy. This is more waste from the party of destruction!
