Nutty: Florida man told by police to stop stalking 'nuisance' squirrels

Rebel Staff

A man in Florida who killed at least one 'annoying' squirrel has been warned by police to stop.

On Sunday, police received calls about an unnamed man with a BB gun. According to ClickOrlando, he told police he believed the squirrels were a growing nuisance in the area.

“It's not a call that we usually deal with. He had a problem with squirrels in his yard, and he had exterminated one, and his neighbor also had a problem with one,” said police spokesman Pete Mercaldo.

“He may have been under the impression that if the squirrels were a nuisance on your property that you could take care of it. There are laws that govern these things, and he agreed with that,” he added.

It was not immediately known how many squirrels the man had killed.

Some people sure have some nutty ideas about varmints. In spite of the genus designations, s. sciurus and r. rattus, I hold with the idea that squirrels are merely rats with hairy tails. Varmints. To any varmints that come around the human settlement I live in, the open season policy exists. In the big stink-pits (cities) and surrounds they like to feed varmints…Why is there such a distinct separation of basic common sense and pragmatism between the disenfranchised rural minority and urban folk – to generalize?
