Here’s how Ontario could free up $2B EVERY year (without firing a single government worker)

Ezra LevantRebel Commander

Guest hosting for Ezra Levant, broadcaster Jerry Agar explains why NO government, at any level, needs to raise taxes at this point. What they have to do is cut wasteful spending, and he has a great example.

You must be in your 20’s or 70’s.
A man in his 50’s, with 30’s year into a company or municipal, provincial or federal government organization working as a labourer, whether it is in private sector or government, would be devastated and overwhelmed losing his job and having to retrain. Look at the people in Fort McMurray. Do you really think they are going to take a few computer courses at some high school and get a job paying what they were getting before?
Blue collar jobs are still the only jobs available to some people and these jobs are honourable, hard working jobs.

As I said, I agree with the problem of overpaid civil servants. But this is where a balance has to be met and we, the taxpayers, should not be held hostage to unrealistic demands.

But, companies have assisted in eliminating many of these jobs by encouraging their customers to make purchases (there go the sales clerks), do their banking (if you don’t mind being hacked), paying bills (there goes the door to door mail), etc etc on-line. Well, these companies are saving LOTS of money by doing so and many people have lost their jobs or never had a chance for an entry level job because of this.

We still, as a society, have to keep jobs available for all levels of skills and abilities for workers.

Do you really think the 52 year old guy from Fort McMurray who has been working outside for his job is going to do well at a computer job? And then he has to compete with 200 other applicants for that one job?
What kind of skills are you talking about there Derek? Fine for a 30 year old still living in his parent’s house.

they should all get a lump sum from top to bottom and it should be no more than minimum wage, well do the welfare thing and ALLOW them a lump sum for a suite and work attire, you dont become a civil servant to serve you dont deserve it man. lets see problems get fixed when there living them.

You have just somewhat proved my point!! Technology is growing and eliminating the need for many jobs in todays economy. That being said, this technology needs people to design it, sell it, maintain it, support it, install it etc etc etc. A door may have closed in one area of the job market, but at least one window has been opened at the same time! This just means that if people want to stay gainfully employed, they need to train themselves to be relevent in todays economy.

If a (wo)man shall not work to support themselves, they shall not eat. Its a simple as that. There is plenty of opportunity out there. Most people it todays socialistic society are just too damn lazy to work for it. They expect the government to provide for them. People today are just lazy and expect everyone else to do everything for them!

You have to realize that bus drivers are ultimately government employees who are ultimately paid by taxes collected from the private sector. The private sector can not afford to be paying these outrageous salaries, pensions and other benefits that have been proven to be on average 23% higher than their private sector counterparts. Its not sustainable!!!! The goverment is not made of money and neither are the tax payers that fund the government and its employees!

I agree government employees have job security compared to private sector. There is no doubt about that.

The average house painter, however, renders $22-$25+ per hour (and not to get into a great debate about OC Transpo, but painters are not responsible for many lives other than their own falling off a ladder). And yes I am aware they are ‘self’ employed and total self dependent.

One main factor that is never considered is how technology has and is eliminating jobs.
Receptionists, secretaries, clerks, junior positions. These were the bread and butter jobs that kept families going. Jobs that single mothers, women returning to the workplace, men and women just getting into the workplace relied on these kind of jobs

But technology, and our insatiable addiction to more and more technology, has obliterated these jobs and these livelihoods. Plus, companies are simply using people now because humans are so dispensable.

Both sides are simply too greedy. Employers want everything for nothing and employees want everything for nothing. The customer is no longer right, the customer now has to satisfy the company’s demands. If not, tough luck.

Government workers should NOT be immune to the reality that private sector employees face!!!!

First of all, they are bus drivers!! Not exactly a skilled job that requires much training considering an 18 year old high school drop out with a proper drivers license can drive a bus!! If they want work, they can market themselves by improving their skills and going to school! Bus drivers are certainly an essential service to our cities, but they are certainly not worth the amount of money they are paid do drive a bus.

1. Stop sending foreign aid
2. Put a 10 year wage freeze on ALL public sector workers. If they dont like it, they can complain to the private sector workers that pay their salary.
3. Lay off approx 15% of government work forces across the board. Government departments at all levels are so bloated with beurocracy and so many completely erroneous and un-needed jobs.
4. Stop paying Natives. Shit happened 150 years ago. Get over it. Its 2016. Either they can live off the land like their ancestors did for thousands of years, or they can integrate themselves in modern society. Either way, there is absolutely zero excuse for paying these people billions and billions that is ultimately just wasted and embezzled.
5. Stop indefinite welfare. Welfare should not be a fucking career choice.
6. Stop giving EI year after year to seasonal workers like fisherman that make an entire years salary over the course of a fishing season, and then collect EI because they cant save their money. They should either budget their money or get another job.
7. Stop giving health care to any new immigrant until they have paid taxes for at least 3 years. If they want health care, they can buy their own 3rd party insurance like Blue Cross. Health care isnt fucking free!!!! Its paid for with taxes!!! If you have not paid enough taxes, then you can not use the service!!!!

You could save untold billions immediately by goosing up the OPP to indict Wynn with the crimes she has been stalling on for the past 2 years.

Get ’er done!

What about the 600 OC Transpo (Ottawa) employees to be laid off with the new rapid transit? Are these jobs being cut through attrition or in the name of ‘progress and convenience’?
One has to ask: ‘is progress, technology, convenience always necessary if it means families will be without an income because of it?’
We can save money, as Jerry says, but somehow I doubt if the Ottawa planning considered proceeding with this $2++ billion project because these 600 jobs were employees ready to retire. These kind of jobs are the staple of our society, provide good incomes for the average family and you don’t need 3 redundant university degrees to qualify.
And they wonder why people can’t find jobs?

It will never happen. Hell, why don’t we all just become government employees. I can’t see a problem there…
