Question of the Day: Can we save the world if we stop making babies?

Emily PrattRebel Correspondent

A United Nations official suggests reducing the human population would effectively fight climate change.

Christiana Figueres, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, argues fertility rates contribute to climate change and that we should make every effort to change the numbers.

We hit the streets and asked if you think we could save the world if we stop making babies.

The idiocy of the UN – and all their bureaucrats – is completely unbearable. Why can Canada not LEAD the world and get out before its too late.
I understand Kevin Rudd – former Aussie Labour Prime Minister is making such a proposal to “reform the UN” – good luck – but it is the first step to leaving.

PF: I just can’t let you have ‘that’ last word. You need to do some homework on the subject. For example..the one-child China policy. See how successful that has been. Grossly overpopulated? What generation are you coming from?
commented 2015-04-08 22:07:10 -0400
The problem with the modern world is that it’s not only grossly overpopulated BUT majority of the population is useless, thriving on the fruits of labour of the useful cultures, not unlike parasites.

In fact stopping doing babies is the real cause of us loosing our freedom and our way of living in a very near future.

We don’t have to worry about population over growth. Bill Gates is taking care of it with his GMO and eugenics, The Netherlands is taking care of it with their assisted suicide and eugenics, Canada is taking care of it with our assisted suicide and eugenics, and what we civilized countries miss…Isis will take care of the rest.

We’re doing a good job supporting bills and Supreme Court decisions to do ourselves in and our elderly. Why do we have to worry about the million+ Canadian babies alone killed through abortion and more prevented through contraception. Forgot the number of women dying from cancers associated with long term use of birth control, etc.

Change the numbers on fertility rates….I don’t see a problem here…do you?

North Korea has great population control, every winter they let hundreds of thousands starve to death…

I have 4 children and 9 grand children, so take that!!! Funny how those who advocate for a cull in humans dont want to start the trend…
commented 2015-04-08 13:54:49 -0400
Population control is one of the proposals of Agenda 21 of the UN, and, as stated in some documents, by ANY MEANS POSSIBLE! I have read that the UN feels that about one half billion people on the planet is sufficient.

Only in “The Big Smoke” could you find so many misinformed people to fill this segment. Try it out where real people live and you will get a totally different perspective.

Any society that trivializes divorce and abortion to the level of a haircut will eventually be replaced by one that didn’t. That is not global warming theory, that is not social justice theory, …..that is simple arithmetic.

Save the Planet for what?? What’s the point of saving the Planet if we’re not here to enjoy it? Actually, if I wasn’t here, I wouldn’t give a damn whether the Planet was saved or not. The trouble with Christiana Figueres and other UN lefties, and non-UN lefties alike, is they want to save the Planet only for themselves. Let the culling start in third world countries. Of course, the World couldn’t possibly spare them, the privileged sophisticated intellectual elite, they need to be spared to run things. It’s hubris, it’s elitist, it’s racist and it’s selfish.
commented 2015-04-07 23:25:02 -0400
I’m all for saving the planet by depopulating – we can start with the politicians, then bureaucrats, then lawyers and I’m sure the social justice and green warriors will willingly make the self sacrifice for mother earth – with those gone, I’m sure there will be no more global crisis. Problem solved.

Reduce the human population? Let the UN lead the way by example.

Judy, 6-8 kids per 2-parent family. Yeah, we have to make that clear because quite a few families are multi-parent. There was a story a few years ago about a Saudi man with several wives who was about to fulfill his goal of making 100 children. Imagine that!

Love that last guy – just educate us and we’ll stop having babies. I mean, who in her right mind would want to have babies, right? Although he has a point. It does seem to be the way it works. Somehow, though, I don’t think that is what Figueres has in mind.
commented 2015-04-07 22:03:56 -0400
Judy, you know the UN would never crack down on the booming baby population of the Muslim countries, but they would happily and gleefully crack down on the western nations.
commented 2015-04-07 21:12:26 -0400
Ask Japan, no immigration and small family size = lower population. The same goes for most western nations..highest growth rates are found in middle east. I bet that most of the UN nations won’t be recommending their countries reduce average birthrates (7.1 to 1 versus western 1.2 to 1)?
commented 2015-04-07 21:05:31 -0400
There has been no measurable increase in average global temperatures as stated by the U.N.
There has been no substantial rise in ocean levels .
There has been no increase in the number or power of tropical storms.
There has been no actual connection made between Co levels and any increase in global average temperatures. Quite the opposite in fact.
So why is it again that we are paying any attention let alone billions of dollars to solve a problem that doesn’t exist?
commented 2015-04-07 20:53:51 -0400
Anyone who knows the demographics knows that WE must start making babies…Islam must stop making babies.
We are not even replacing ourselves while Muslims are producing 6-8 children per two parent family. The only solution is for the UN to crack down on Islam right now. We have no need to listen to the UN…their concern is not with us at all.

If the stork population ever becomes endangered we’re all in serious trouble.
commented 2015-04-07 20:44:07 -0400
I think you are probably right Jake.
I also think Canada definitely needs more babies. We just need to find some responsible adults to have them. Actually Canada needs lots and lots of babies. We won’t have a chance of surviving as a country if we don’t pay attention to that. I would rather not have to import them. What sense does it make to stop, if every other country is going at it like rabbits.
All our over educated children , not procreating will be the downfall of this country. I say that to mine, every time I see them, I also want to be a grandmother.
No one is over educated, but its good to be educated for a job that actually is attainable.
Babies, hell ya, more babies for sure.
commented 2015-04-07 20:22:43 -0400
That last comment from that older man was quite insightful.

As a society becomes educated and its people are raised to a better standard of living, the population growth slows. Take a look at the growth rate in the richer societies to the third world countries and you will see a direct correlation between wealth/education and slow population growth vs. poor/uneducated and fast population growth.

“Question of the Day: Can we save the world if we stop making babies?”

Well, maybe, but wouldn’t want to do that. It’s just way too much fun!

Figueres is full of shit. Figueres is in the wrong part of the world. Asia alone possess about 4 Billion of the 6.5 Billion on the planet. Figueres should go negotiate with China, India, Indonesia and through the pac-rim and convince this part of the world to stop procreating. Yes, I know. Figueres won’t do this, because she’s a useless UN do nothing.
commented 2015-04-07 19:48:46 -0400
Malthus predicted that the earth would fix the problem. David Suzuki has been a proponent of limiting the population and sees the earth as the grim reaper. As I see it (and I wear bi-focals) ISIS can move east and unleash Armageddon in India and China. African Terrorists can do a little culling in that area. Actually; I’m retired and no one listens to me anyway.

The world will shrug us off when it’s had enough. Trying to save the planet, and out think mother nature we’ll probably just speed up the process. 2cents
