The administrator of America’s General Services Administration is Denise Turner Roth (@DeniseUSGSA).
It’s up to her what public buildings are called and she’s the reason West Virginia STILL has a courthouse named after a prominent Klan member.
That’s right, the Robert C. Byrd Courthouse in Beckley, West Virginia is named after a KKK organizer who was promoted to “exalted cyclops” after recruiting 150 new members.
Ms. Roth, what’s the matter with you? How did you let this happen?
You need to change the name – now.
The Rebel has started a petition to implore this African American woman to wake up and stop making a mockery of our justice system.
Think about it: Could a black man expect a fair trial at a courthouse if it was named after infamous racist David Duke? Of course not.
How is this different?
Is it because when he died, Byrd was the longest-running senator in American history?
Is it because he was a Democrat?
The generals on Stone Mountain were Democrats. The high school Julian Moore wants changed belonged to a Democrat. The racist, Confederate bones they’re digging up in Memphis were Democrats.
Why stop there?
We need to Take Byrd Down.
Look at this, for example. In 1946 Byrd told fellow Democrat and segregationist Theodore Bilbo:
“I shall never fight in the armed forces with a negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times, and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds.”
Byrd opposed civil rights well into the 1960s and was the only person to vote against affirming both black U.S. Supreme Court justices.
As you'll see in my video, when asked to atone for his racist past, Byrd shrugged and said, “There are white niggers too.”
This was in 2001, not 1901.
Denise Turner Roth, what were you thinking? You’re a person of color. Help us Take Byrd Down.
Folks, I’m serious about this.
Sign the petition.
Don’t do it soon. Do it now.
We want to get tens of thousands of signatures on this thing and show the Democrats we have had enough of their racism.
We aren’t proud of their history and we certainly don’t condone very modern racists having courthouses named after them. It’s unconscionable.
We can’t change the past but we can determine our future and our future is Byrd-free.
Let’s make this right, you guys.
Sign the petition right now.
"We demand that the U.S. General Services Administration rename 'The Robert C. Byrd Courthouse and Federal Building' in Beckley, West Virginia, to remove that honour from a KKK leader and long-time racist.”
