“We can do that for people now!” Talking to my doctor about euthanasia

Thomas PrattRebel Blogger

I had a rather interesting conversation with the doctor at the walk in clinic last week.  She asked me about Russett, my cat, as the last time I had seen her was due to an infected hand due to a cat bite.  I informed her that we had to put him down a week earlier due to organ failure.

The doctor’s expression and voice became very animated and she said: “Oh, you know we can do that for people now”!

I informed her that I understood a bill had either been passed or was in the process, but that I was totally opposed to it.

Her tone started to change and she said,” Well, I would not be able to do it as I would have to take a course. I just thought you might be interested.”

She then asked me why I opposed the policy.

I told her for several reasons:

It goes against God’s law that says thou shalt not kill.

It goes against the Hippocratic Oath that all doctors take. This states, very clearly, that thou shalt not do any harm to thy patient.

It places an unfair responsibility on the shoulders of family, advocates and the doctor.

It is a self serving law to alleviate the financial burden on the Health Care and old age Pension system.

It potentially lines the pockets of the politicians and government with your hard earned money.

It can create opportunities for dissension in the family.

It creates a slippery slope when determining whom we can legally put to death.  It may start off with terminally ill and very old people, but then could be later applied to almost anyone, mentally handicapped, psychiatric patients and so on. Where does it end?

In addition there are recorded interviews with ministers which live in various states within the U.S where the death penalty is still legal. The ministers and priests interviewed stated that lethal injection is not as “humane,” as one might think. Frequently, the person dies in extreme pain. This is partly due to lack of knowledge regarding what chemicals to use and opposition from may pharmaceutical companies that refuse to sell certain drugs.

I know this to be true, for sadly, my cat Russett’s death did not come as quickly or humanely as I would have liked. Sometimes things go wrong.

Is it not ironic that the socialist objects to putting rapists and murders to death, but has no difficulty putting a law abiding old women or men to death?

Then I asked her, what happens if you do not have a family member or one you can trust to advocate for you? What happens if you can no longer speak or let your wishes known?

The doctor’s answer, “Oh, you can get a government appointed advocate.”

To which I replied, “Oh, how convenient”. How do they know what you want?I for one would never trust a “government advocate”. It would be too convenient for them and not convenient for me.

This shut her up very quickly.

My point is that in both circumstances the government and liberal media have been given way too much power already. They are dividing and destroying this country with the encouragement of victimizing all these special interest groups and giving them special rights.

The government and Liberal media decide that all are equal under the law but some are more equal than others. When this starts to happen, we lose democracy.

The fringe groups get all the rights and the rest get told how to speak; think and what to write and what ideologies are correct.

If we disagree we are branded bigots; or intolerant or ill educated.

How convenient for the socialists!

Nazi Germany was guilty of this very form of ideology.  Our fathers fought a World War to prevent this very sick ideology.

The socialist government has turned away from God and by doing so has lost their way.  They can no longer distinguish right from wrong.

The Bible talks about the notion that people (and worst of all, leaders) who persist in wrong-doing – despite compelling natural evidence to the contrary – eventually develop a reprobate mind, where they can no longer judge between right and wrong.

I think we are really seeing what Paul described in the Book of Romans:

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.

Sadly if our society continues on this road of destruction than our great nations of Canada and the United States shall collapse. We shall become third world countries. We shall be come countries that practice unlawful and immoral deeds and we shall have brought about our own punishment and collapse.

Now that this Euthanasia Bill has passed, how are we to trust Doctors or Health care workers?

This Bill is as diabolical as the politicians that allowed it to pass!

How are we to trust Health care worker or our own family Physicians or the government now that this bill has been passed!

The euthanasia Bill is as diabolical in nature as the politicians that allowed it to pass!

Dear Anonymous:

Just to further clarify a point, in case there is any doubt. When I made the statement,
“No one is stopping individuals from committing suicide”. What I am really saying is that while every attempt should be made to help those to prevent them from committing suicide, sadly, if a person is that determined that it is very difficult to prevent it. In no way to I condone suicide nor am I suggesting that one should.

Suicide is a sin and people that contemplate it should seek help from their doctor; priest; minister or religious leader.

In addition it is ludicrous that we should ask our government for permission to commit assisted suicide. The Government is not God. They cannot grant anyone absolution.

Dear Anonymous:

Please understand, my statements in my article are in no way meant to be taken that I am unsympathetic to people in serious pain.

One of the problems I have with this bill is that it shall put too much power in the hand s of the government. You are working on the false assumption that you even need to ask the government for permission to kill yourself.

Here is an interesting point. We should never give our government that kind of power over our lives. No one is stopping individuals from ending their lives if that is their true wish. You are working under the false assumption that you need to ask government permission. You do not! There are plenty of people out there that commit suicide everyday, though very misguided. I cannot stress that point enough! They are misguided!

The problem as I see it is that by asking a doctor to help you, you are now implicating the doctor into your plan. Making a criminal of the doctor. It is all very well to say that the government absolves the doctor, but only God can do that.

By committing the sin of suicide, which I would never recommend, you are only answerable to your family; friends & God. By implicating a doctor you have now created a murderer of the doctor and anyone else that may go along with your idea.

Now you have to answer for many sins! The sin of killing yourself. The sin of possibly implicating family members & the sin of implicating the doctor.

Just some thoughts!

You think I am being brain washed by some evil people?

I damn well know what evil is. Pushing for assisted suicide is not evil. It is the compassionate thing to do for the severely disabled.

Ezra Levant going on his nasty rant on the Gypsies is evil. You may have a point here, where it is hard for some people to believe that somebody can do something evil, such as go on television and bash Gypsies the way Ezra did.

It is so unsettling how history repeats itself. And even here in Canada no less. Does anyone remember the words of Hitler?
“All this was inspired by the principle—which is quite true within itself—that in the big lie there is always a certain force of credibility; because the broad masses of a nation are always more easily corrupted in the deeper strata of their emotional nature than consciously or voluntarily; and thus in the primitive simplicity of their minds they more readily fall victims to the big lie than the small lie, since they themselves often tell small lies in little matters but would be ashamed to resort to large-scale falsehoods. It would never come into their heads to fabricate colossal untruths, and they would not believe that others could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.”

Someone once said that good people can’t understand how truly bad a bad person can be. Good people are good, but they’re also a little bit stupid.

Maybe watch the movie “Good”. It shows how millions of “good” people found themselves in a society spiralling into terrible chaos. A film about then, which illuminates the terrors of now.

I am in favor of physician assisted suicide. When my health fails, I would want a doctor to help me die peacefully.

Unfortunately, my German physician is a neo nazi, and is stubbornly opposed to physician assisted suicide. The good news is, I come to the rebel frequently, and read all the arguments against physician assisted suicide. I then take the time to think up counter arguments, so that when my time comes, I will know what to say to the panel of doctors at the assisted suicide hearing.

Once the assisted dying door is opened, it will not be closed. The opposite is true, it will gradually be pushed until it’s all the way open, in this case it would be an insidious thing.

One only has to look at some of the other issues in society today to know this is true, even in the disintegration of our democratic society this is true, this didn’t just happen, it’s been creeping for a long while now.

Where will it end, civilized societies have fallen victim to the devaluation of life before. We are only kidding ourselves if we think it can’t happen here, not only can it happen here, but probably will in time. The only real question is how much time that’s going to be. Some previous commenters have suggested that the government could use this for their own purposes, this is not far-fetched at all, it may well go that way, if in doubt, have a good look at the government, what do you see?

This is one door that should remain closed and tightly locked. Especially true, when there are excellent alternatives that still value life.

Andrew Stephenson: Nothing prevents you from killing yourself now, it’s already your right. I suggest you do it today- just in case the bill doesn’t pass

Pretty soon there will come a time, when as you age, you will get a letter from the government telling when to report to the local euthanasia centre for processing, disposal and asset distribution.

Do not laugh – the new social ways are coming.

Pain can be managed & is not an excuse to euthanize’ ; I’ve known some’ resort to Speedballs (Street Drugs of heroin & cocaine) get on for 16+ years. Our Doctors could surely do better (my examples resorted to crime to meet their needs) . Big Pharma again ?

“If Euthanasia is made legal, how long will it be before compulsory Euthanasia becomes law? To be used on Senior Citizens at the age of 76 or so. ?

It will happen about the same time dogs become super-intelligent and begin farming humans for their meat. Which is to say, an interesting thought experiment, but not something that’s imminent nor should be used to judge actual policy.

How long before the severely disabled are euthanized? Society will be judged by how they treat those who are unable to defend themselves. This will be a revenue stream for Doctors. And will they be selling off peoples body parts for profit? I’m against the state playing God, and I know God is not going to like it.

Just think, how much money Governments would save on Pensions and so on.

In an over crowded world, the future looks bleak for the aged. Remember, once you reach 50, a year only lasts six months.

Get a bloody living will. You really should anyway, because guess what happens if you get run over by a bus tomorrow and are put on life support without one? Exactly the same thing that the “slippery slope” advocates worry about.

If I wish to have this available, it should be my right. Your Bible lessons are great, if you believe them then have at, but don’t restrict MY choices because of it.

Thomas Pratt:
Good for you!
I started discussing this with my MD and she was not very knowledgeable on the subject. She thought she was, but she wasn’t. I do not relish the thought she will have ANY decisions when I am at that stage.

I am going to submit to her written instructions to put on my file, eg. Roman Catholic practice and policy on end-of-life, no euthanasia, food and water until natural death, etc.

Everyone will have to do something like this along with the necessary forms for power of attorney (Euthanasia Prevention Coalition has the ‘LIFE PROTECTING POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR PERSONAL CARE’ forms for $25.00 http://www.epcc.ca/resources/life-protecting-power-of-attorney-for-personal-care/)

Somewhere in the background you just know some corporate crony of the political cartel has found a use for suicided “human remains” – soylent green may be the answer to the food stamp crisis. One socialist failure feeds on another

As a side bar here, My father was in a bad way before he passed away, not a large hope for recovery but he had come back 3 times before when the doctors pronounced him a lost cause. Because of this I resisted the constant pestering of the head administrator of the hospital to sign a paper to not revive him if he flat lined. I said no, if there is a chance to save him take it – he was in no pain or suffering just bed ridden – This constant pressure from administrative doctors totally changed my opinion of the professen – it has devolved as much as politics has.

Thomas – I couldn’t agree more! Thank you for putting that Doctor in her place. It sounds like she’s excited about killing people.
