The CBC does not care about protecting your freedom of speech

Rebel Staff

The CBC has a new story about Ottawa "trying to silence" critics of Israel. Is it true?

No, it's not. It's an imaginary threat.

Meanwhile, actual bills attacking freedom of speech are not getting talked about by the CBC.

Freedom is under attack by Canada every single day.

But the CBC will only report on the Conservative's 'imaginary' censorship.

cbc.ca tax funded censorship and topping commentary with the most licked rather than the newest… shaping opinions one article at a time……but i do believe that the poll about lizzie mays outburst by solomon showed how small and small minded the viewing numbers really are..

there is a vacuum at the cbc….which wasnt filled by the imploding heads, evan solomon comes to mind, at the news that the tories were no longer going to play the plunderbunds games…

Physician, heal thyself! Ezra, you are truly a champion of free speech for Canada. It was bad enough when Mohammed cartoons weren’t shown on the media over five years ago when a third world war was about to start. That was when I knew we didn’t truly have free speech in the press. When the Paris-Charlie incident occurred I watched and waited to see what the fuss was about. Again, the mainstream press could not show us what was causing Mohammed to turn over in his grave! Now, we have the Pamela Geller incident in Texas, and all can clearly see whose side the media is on. The CBC of all broadcasters should not have had anything to fear from showing the cartoons because they enjoy taxpayer funding with little fear of losing it no matter what. Maybe they respect Islam too much! That needs to change!

It is hypocritical for the Canadian Bureau of Censorship to accuse anybody of trying to silence somebody. Because I have tried to post comments contrary to the censors opinion no comment by anybody using my home internet connection yet I can go post on CBC from my sons house or work with my Discus or Facebook. Wasn’t CBC opposed to to SNN getting a broadcast license and then led the charge to have them denied mandatory carry? The Canadian Bureau of Censorship is not a good source for claims that somebody is trying to silence somebody else.

How Irwin Cotler could be a Justice Minister while his party never did anything for Israel – most often standing with the UN and suggesting they were being “honest-brokers” while dealing with rat Arafat – has always been astonishing to me. When Barbara Kay voiced disagreement with Cotler – I felt I may be on the right track. Now on the day Alan Borovoy dies – who wrote/formed most of our HRC legislation – maybe we can exorcise these anti-free speech laws before the Liberals happily agree to the rest of us being led off to jail for our un-pc views.

CBC is like the old horse that should be taken behind the barn and shot.

Ole McDonald and the CBC are both well beyond their “Best Before Dates” . . . time to cut our losses and defund this tax payer funded joke !

The CBC is anti-democracy and they have been working overtime to kill our country, and our way of life. What a shame, that they haven’t been cut loose from the tax payers purse yet. I would be ashamed to work for this rag!

I think it’s been amply demonstrated that the CBC’s agenda as opposed to its mandate are diametric opposites in intent and practice. The CBC first and foremost is committed to the security and growth of the CBC at all costs. Service to Canadians is simply now a meaningless toss-off motto. I am a Canadian of several generations and the CBC does not represent me or cater to me nor offer anything of interest to me -the CBC fcuses on a small demographic of radical left and the heck with the other 80%.

Well said, George, but easier said than done, especially when all we get from 24 Sussex Drive on the issue of disappearing freedom of speech in Canada is deffening silence. Thanks to Ezra and the other Rebel folks, we finally have at least some means of sounding the alarm. But if Harper doesn’t soon speak up about it, we won’t have even that much longer. Make no mistake, the anti-freedom forces of the left are gaining in their drive to stamp out freedom of speech for conservatives in this country.

Well Ho Hum, there is a simple solution to your hand-wringing and worry about BDS. To wit – get rid of all hate speech laws and quasi-judicial HRC’s – including those used by Islamists in muzzling the rest of us.

The one sided leftist cbc is a cancer to this country and should be defunded and the sooner the better …….Over a billion $$$$ a year of tax payers money given to cbc so they can be spin doctors for the left…..Something wrong with this picture me thinks……

Basically Ezra…given the wording of 319…I really don’t see how the government could make a charge under it’s provisions stick for these purposes…though I see your point on the similarity of the 1930s Nazi campaign.

The question I would ask those who champion this boycott is…Vas ist your zolution to ze Juden problem?….:-)

Face the facts people…the Jews have decided which hill they will die on…it is called Mount Zion…it is located in Jerusalem…they are not going to pack up and move to Miami.

HO HUM….I was actually directly involved in an abuse of power on the part of the Liberals on this subject matter. Read section 319 of the Criminal Code…while I am a free speech absolutist…in a situational reality of a stacked deck Supreme Court that believes in the "hate crime/hate speech " principle…that wording is as fair as fair gets. Liberals like Irwin Cotler and Heddy-up-her-Assy Fry want courts of star chamber and “truth is not a defence” laws.

The government of Canada itself imposes trade sanctions…so grass roots trade sanctions against Israel are in my opinion fair ball. For what it’s worth I don’t agree with them and I still buy Israeli products…in fact if the Harper government is re-elected and the dust settles on the next round of the firearm ownership witch hunt…I intend to buy an IWI (Israeli Weapons Industries) TRAVOR 21….an investment of over $2000 in Israeli cutting edge technology….in fact it has shown the over rated AK-47 to be obsolete…..:-)

Neil MacDonald = just another CBC stupid head – CBC just another partner of islamic terrorists.

I am very disappointed with Ezra’s take on this story. He calls the CBC story an “imaginary threat”. You only have to read the words of Safety Minister Steven Blaney to realize that this is far from imaginary. Blaney left no doubt that he would use hate speech laws to go after BDS protesters.

QUOTE:
Canadian Public Security Minister Steven Blaney has said the government is taking a “zero tolerance” approach to BDS.

In response to specific questions about what “zero tolerance” of BDS means, and how it will be enforced, Blaney aide Josee Sirois said, “I can tell you that Canada has one of the most comprehensive sets of laws against hate crime anywhere in the world.”
END-QUOTE:

Who’s next? Is Blaney going to go after those people who are critical of Islam? Is he going to throw in jail those who are opposed to mass immigration? Where will it end?

It is ironic that Ezra is one of the biggest defenders of free speech in this country and yet he stands behind the “conservatives” that are threatening to take our freedoms away.

I stopped listening to cbc around the time of the 9/11 attacks when they veered hard into fantasy news reporting. I used to call in to Talk Back for the thrill of telling off politicians on air. But I just couldn’t stomach the pro-terrorist anti-Americanism and so I began to play with the dial. Now I patronize almost exclusively alternative news sources. Oh I still read articles published by Sun when I see them attached to Furey’s or Batra’s or McCullough’s accounts and I still read the local metroland-owned weekly screed for local news and events, but I’ve soured, big time, on cbc.

Can a petition be set up to defund the CBC?

Yes, let’s not talk about the draconian bill introduced by those heroes of power at any cost, the Liberal Party. Instead, let’s make up a story to smear the Gov’t and hope it sticks. The CBC is morally bankrupt and corrupt. Stop propping it up with tax dollars. If they are as relevant as lefties believe they are, then it should be funded by donations (Like PBS in the US). Lefties can put their money where their mouths are.
