The resignation of Sir Timothy Hunt: Can't feminists take a joke?

Marissa SemkiwRebel Commentator

Toronto Sun columnist Anthony Furey joins me to discuss discuss the forced resignation of Nobel Prize winner Sir Timothy Hunt following allegedly sexist remarks he made at a conference in South Korea.

Are women really so sensitive that they can't take a joke or are gender mania fanatics going too far?

@lynda cayer. Wow, what an over the top rant. He toyed with the notion, not of eliminating women as you suggest, but separate labs. Explain to us how you made the leap you did lynda!! Oh, and here’s the kicker, you mention Sharia, but if in fact, he happened to Muslim, he’d have GOTTEN IT!!! Surely lynda, as a stupid feminist, you must be on top of these issues, and realize there are already precedents for Muslims getting the segregation they demand, and that your ilk APPROVE!!

It’s not genital mutilation, it’s “genital beautification” – right lynda? If you want to be a ranting stupid feminist, please try to keep up!!

@lynda Cayer……If ve vant zem barefoot pregnunt und in ze kitchen….furst ….ve must eliminate ze shoes……..:-)

I hope that throws appropriate light on the absurdity of your alleged agenda……women’s shoe production would have been the first target….we evil patriarchs know how to form effective strategy……:-)

We have arrived at the sad point in our history where what one says, (especially white, heterosexual, physically and mentally able males), has become far more important than what one accomplishes, contributes or does. There are so many activists who are ready to crucify anyone who strays beyond their arbitrary boundaries of what are acceptable utterances either in private or in public. If I was invited to speak publicly in any venue today I would politely provide a one word response that could not be misinterpreted, twisted or misunderstood – “No!” One slip of the the tongue at the podium, one ill-advised word, one dangerous ambiguity in a turn of phrase and my reputation could go straight ….. (sorry) directly down the drain. In our new socially restricted environment we have inadvertently forced unprecedented uniformity of exclusion in the names of equality, inclusiveness and diversity to the point where those words have completely lost their meaning.

The vitriolic comments on here really make me ill.

Joan Abernathy – you stated “The first Jewish president of Harvard (?) (It’s in the latest Wiesenthal report on American on-campus anti-semitism) was forced to resign, over a decade ago, for a similar reason. He wondered, out loud, if the aptitude of women for scientic achievement was different than that of men.” Lawrence Summers did not “Wonder out Loud” The talk he gave in 2005 at the Conference for Science & Engineering included; identifying reasons why women were not advancing in science and engineering and ways to change this. The most notable reason for the disparity was “familial desires vs employer’s desires.” He also spoke to the issue of academics; in that women were not achieving academically in science and engineering at the same ratio as men.

His tenure as Harvard’s President came to an end as a result of the controversy over his support of A. Shlelfer vs US Gov. lawsuit, in which Harvard shelled out millions of dollars in settlement. It was a vote of non-confidence (particularly among Harvard executives and fellow professors), as well as students that brought about his resignation.

Well that’s a misguided classification.

Joan said,“Ideologies like ISIS, Al Qaeda, Al Nusra and the myriad other global imperialist caliphate identity politics are forcing conformity wherever they go and have stated we are on their itinerary. We need to play a completely different game in order to defeat them. We must abandon identity politics all together and return to arguing facts and evidence in science and society.”
What does that even mean? I t just gets so convoluted and feels like such a con game. No trust in that sort of language. Using ISIS as the diversion to introduce what I consider deviant sexual indoctrination. “We need to play a completely different game in order to defeat them.” Not the game you are suggesting, Joan.

Its sort of like Putin taking advantage of ISIS as the diversion to invade.

Nancy Paul – I hope you won’t bite my head off for respondoping but I know the answer to why 50 Shades sold so many copies. It is a romance novel, written according to the same sort of formula as Harlequin. And Harlequin romances sell really well.

I purchased the ebook version of 50 Shades just to see what all the fooforall was all about but I could not get even one third through it because it’s romance-novel formula is so cloying, its story so mind-numbingly boring, and the writing so mediocre-minus.

That is not just my opinion; its genre is classified as romance. And romance sells.

The problem with identity politics reaches far beyond those of the infinitely-mutating gender identities.

Identity politics is dividing society into exclusive groups that require conformity. For example, you can no longer be both a feminist (fundamental and defining first-wave) and a Conservative. If you promote sex (as opposed to the ever-fluid gender) equality, you are called a Liberal, queer Jew and ordered to leave groups like therebel.media comments sections and go comment on cbc.ca.

Identity politics ignore the fact that individuals are complex organisms that resist rigid categorization, who grow and change throughout our lifetimes, that can be both breath and candy mints, who can walk and chew gum at the same time, and who are stronger when inclusive than when exclusive.

Identity politics did indeed resurrect in the west in our time out of post modern liberal relativism, that erroneous assumption that there is no absolute truth. Identity politics posit as fixed that which is not – identity.

Time to recognize the ideology of post modernism passed a natural death during the 1990s. Time to again assert the veracity of individualism.

Ideologies like ISIS, Al Qaeda, Al Nusra and the myriad other global imperialist caliphate identity politics are forcing conformity wherever they go and have stated we are on their itinerary. We need to play a completely different game in order to defeat them. We must abandon identity politics all together and return to arguing facts and evidence in science and society.

This is a photo of Maher Arar on the left and his wife in the middle. http://www.billcasey.ca/MAHER%20ARAR%2014FEB07/IMG_1266.jpg
Mrs. Arar has a PhD and is more qualified than her husband (smart wife) but is required, on threat of death, to submit to her husband on matters of opinion, belief, and ideology.

The first Jewish president of Harvard (?) (It’s in the latest Wiesenthal report on American on-campus anti-semitism) was forced to resign, over a decade ago, for a similar reason. He wondered, out loud, if the aptitude of women for scientic achievement was different than that of men.

A noble prize winner is a pretty influential person and his statement could influence and be used to support segregation and discrimination in the scientific community based on sex (versus gender).

A smart fellow like that should know better than to put his foot in his mouth with a loaded gun. He is lucky all he did was shoot himself in the foot.

Linda, firing the infidel for blaspheme is what jives with shariah law. Surprised they didn’t kill him, or at least cut off a body part.

I ponder this “Why would Sir Richard Timothy Hunt have made such remarks?” “What question was posed to him in the first place to have elicited his comment.?” And then there’s this – His comment wasn’t “Let me tell you about ‘THE’ trouble with girls.” He said: “Let me tell you about ‘MY’ trouble with girls.” He spoke of his own personal experience and who has the right to condemm the man for that? This is so reminiscent of the Dr. Mat Taylor “Shirt” scandal. It took 10 1/2 years to land a space probe on a comet in space (a major advancement in space discovery) to be overshadowed by a group of feminist because of the shirt he wore! As I recall, Dr. Taylor was reduced to tears by this witch hunt!! Sir Richard Timothy Hunt, after dedicating his whole life to scientific studies and research – it all boils down to – denigration by feminism! Shameful, just absolutely shameful!

Don’t see that written or implied anywhere in Marissa and Furey’s commentary or any of these comments Linda. Your’s seems a bit of an overreaction, if it was meant to be funny ,it didn’t work.

Here are some good ideas. Let’s put these bitches back in the kitchen and keep them pregnant and barefooted. Get them removed from all jobs that pay well and only allow them work that pays too little for men or is beneath male dignity to perform.
We all know that little girls and women should be raped as it is good for them. They need to be dominated by males for their own good and that’s why they ask for it. They get what they deserve.
Women are inferior to men .
Men are smarter and better in all things .These fuck ing women who complain about male treatment should be beaten into submission or learn to understand they will never be thought of as important as males.
Isn’t this how you think? .
Sharia law jives well this attitude. Let’s go for it.

Step one millimetre over that feminist hard line and your livelihood is forfeit…my advice ….say nothing regarding women for all the time you are working and require employment. If that causes resentment to build ….express that resentment with your ballot. Problem with that strategy is that feminists cuckoos nest the policy system of ALL political parties so as to eliminate real democratic choice to their agenda.

Anyone in government who would actually like to change this CANNOT do so. You are not even permitted to talk about it.

Academia is even worse than government in these matters.

Anonymous, damn that’s a good quote! "Madeline Albright said, “If you think women are kind, caring and nurturing, you have forgotten your Junior High School years.”

…and we’ll continue to expose them."
I’ve seen some of these radical feminists. Please don’t expose them.

The one thing that is plain about the “feminist” reaction to every opinion that they think might be derogatory is that they reveal much about themselves. Not much to admire, like, or feel sympathy for among that lot. I am a woman by the way, and I don’t know how I became anonymous on this site. The side of female nature demonstrated by “feminists” is frightening, but we do know about it, don’t we? As Madeline Albright said, “If you think women are kind, caring and nurturing, you have forgotten your Junior High School years.”

Ha, loved that one Marissa and Furey. The sooner the better.

Good question Nancy.

Could someone figure an answer to this?? How come, with the amount of man hating and forcing men to be “feminized” – able to cry, emote and otherwise act like wussies, did 50 Shades of Grey sell over a million copies in Canada alone??!! It makes no sense……enquiring minds would love to know…

Let’s just get it over with and declare that men are not fit to be in the workplace and remove them all. Then the workplace will be harmonious except for the incessant cat fighting.

He was forced to resign?! This lynch-mob mentality is scary. Remember what happened to Antoine Lavoisier, the father of modern chemistry? The violent revolutionaries cut his head off during the Reign of Terror.

There was a time when a person of his stature would make these comments, he would be called eccentric and they would be brushed off as good humour.
commented 2015-06-12 19:33:16 -0400
No, they can’t take a joke, they have no sense of humor, and are so politically correct and thin-skinned that any comment even remotely smelling like it may be possibly against them somehow is labelled “sexist” and “anti-female” and “intolerant” and “rapist” any other label they can throw around.

And then they wonder why real men have a hate-on for “feminism”…
commented 2015-06-12 18:59:20 -0400
It is the war on men.

Frankly, in my opinion, men have been nearly emasculated over the past decade.

I agree completely. That’s it…. nothing to add.

Feminazi’s strike again! How is it that there is NEVER any blow back when some feminist nazi calls all men rapists? W.T.F!
